The canvas is mounted on cardboard. There are some small holes in the corner of a former frame. The canvas shows some touch-ups and is slightly soiled. The painting has a inscribed signature lower left „Heinrich VII 90 H.v.St.". Verso is labeled with an etiquette showing a copy of a certificate of the Fine Art Academy of Hans von Stegmann. Beautifully framed Overall dimensions: 27 x 33 cm Provenance: From the estate of a Berlin collector This oil painting by Max Hoenow shows a motif, which is quite typical for the Berlin Artists: The Havel region in Brandenburg. The viewer looks on the river, which slowly flows along a wooded bank. The painting is a little stained, but otherwise in good condition. The frame shows significant traces of age and use. Lower left the image is signed with "Hoenow". The reverse is labelled with: "Gemälde um 1910. War auf Karton aufgeklebt. Gelöst und im Oktober 1994 auf Leinwand und neuen Keilrahmen gezogen." The dimensions are 27 x 33 cm (framed) and 20 x 28 cm (canvas). Max Hoenow (1851-1909) Max Hoenow studied at the Berlin Academy of Art and was a master student of Carl Steffeck (1818-1890). Initially, his work focused on portraiture, but later shifted to landscape painting. For this reason, Hoenow left Berlin for about five years and lived in the Margraviate of Brandenburg and in Saxony-Anhalt. From the 1880s, he completed his studies with Carl Ludwig (1839-1901). Hoenow was a member of the General German Art Association and exhibited regularly in Berlin and Munich.

With landscapes, portraits and genre paintings he regularly participated in the major Berlin art exhibitions since 1904. From 1920 he was a member of the Berlin Artists Association. When he married in 1921 he settled on the North Frisian Island Sylt, where he painted many landscapes in oil. His younger brother Max Köcke-Wichmann (1889-1962), a pupil of Max Liebermann (1847-1935), also worked as an artist.

Max" Elaborately framed Overall Dimensions: 50 x 40 cm Provenance: From the estate of a Berlin collector This most charming oil painting shows a long-tailed talapoin. It sits on a table in front of a green background and bites into a big red apple which it holds with its two little paws. It is a copy of a work by the German artist and Darwinist Gabriel Cornelius Ritter von Max (1840-1915). The painting has intensely yellowed and shows slight craquelure and smaller colour losses on the edges. Due to old framing, the canvas has creases. In the upper part, where the head of the monkey is shown, there is a dent. On the reverse of the canvas there are different coloured brushstrokes. The frame is in good condition with only minor traces of age and use. Lower middle the painting is marked with "G. Max". The dimensions are 50 x 40 cm (framed) and 41 x 30 cm (canvas). Gabriel Cornelius Ritter von Max (1840-1915) Gabriel Max was born in 1840 as the son of a sculptor in Prague. His first artistic training he received from his father. He later studied under Eduard von Engerth (1818-1897) at the Prague Academy. On his recommendation Max was accepted at the Vienna Academy. Here he studied under Professors Karl von Blaas (1815-1894), Christian Ruben (1805-1875) and Carl Wurzinger (1817-1883). He then completed his training under Carl Theodor von Piloty (1826-1886) at the Munich Academy, where he was took part in the artistic circle of Hans Makart (1840-1884), Franz von Defregger (1835-1921) and Franz von Lenbach (1836-1904). In addition to his painting, Max also dealt with the anthropology of monkeys, which he bred. In 1900, Max was knighted.

The observer stands on an embankment with colorful blooming spring flowers, overlooking a meadow with a small house. It has a pointed roof, a little chimney and a small window. Next to it there is a small annex and carefully stacked logs. In the background, hidden by trees, one can see the roofs of some larger buildings. This is a signed work of the landscape painter Hugo Göritz. He was born in 1871 in Spandau and studied at the Berlin School of Art as well as under Peter Paul Müller (1853 - 1930) in Munich. The painting shows some color losses. The canvas has two creases over the entire height. The frame is in good condition with minor traces of age and use. Lower left, the picture is signed with "Hugo Göritz". The dimensions are 62 x 73 cm (framed) and 54 x 65 cm (canvas).
