The foundry impressed on this example, Avoiron et Cie., was the only foundry with which Bartholdi had a contract and reproduced the statue in cast for direct sale. There were a number of sizes: the present example, called the "four foot" model, was also known as the "A" model, and was the largest produced for direct sale. Even though Avoiron et Cie cast the models in France, the Statue of Liberty Club notes that "Bartholdi's copyright, 9939 G dated August 31, 1876, is registered in official records of the United States Copyright Office under the title Statue of American Independence."

Condition Report: This zinc statue displays a desirable weathered patina. One sheet metal ray is missing from crown and her raised arm has been broken from the body. It has not been reattached by a conservator but is held in place by a wooden stick that the owner inserted inside the hollow statue so that the arm can be supported by the stick. Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Property of a Georgia FamilyE. Howard & Co. No. 46 Astronomical Regulator ClockBoston, Massachusetts, c. 1870Case: H. 117 inches, W. 41 inches, D. 16 inchesDial: 18 inches diameterThis E Howard No. 46 Astronomical regulator is among the rarest and most sought after clocks in the world. Previously unknown, and numbered 11 on its pendulum, it is housed in an elaborately carved walnut case which is among the most sumptuous examples known. The architecturally inspired case, with portrait bust, fox's head and a complex arrangement of cornices, brackets and moldings, is a monument to the Renaissance Revival style in America. Its presence in a residence or public place would have made the ultimate statement of sophistication, wealth and prestige at the time. In an era just prior to the horseless carriage, this clock- with its incredibly precise engine- would have been akin to an exotic motorcar in one's garage......but in their drawing room instead. The elaborate walnut case of this clock is inspired by the Renaissance Revival style in America. It would have been among the most costly options available to a buyer at the time. The arched bonnet is crested by a floral triangular bracket and and capped by four fluted urn-shaped finials. The tympanum below is centered by a three dimensional portrait bust of a young gentleman wearing a feathered cap. Six reticulated brackets support the bold overhanging cornice. The 18 inch white painted metal dial is inscribed "E. HOWARD & CO. BOSTON MASS,", with perimeter minute track, hours indicated above the center and seconds below cutout around seconds bit to view escapement mechanism. With eight day brass weight driven time only movement featuring train style detached hour, minute & seconds cannons. The exterior rear -mounted barrelweight cable pickup and solid pallets with Graham's deadbeat escapement with engraved top plate. The front hung steel and brass pendulum cradle supports a four-jar mercury pendulum with acorn drops, marked "11" and "2945 -2", indexed regulation nut and steel pointer, the works driven by a 3 ½ inch tall, 1 ¼ inch diameter weight with brass case and threaded acorn hanger. (Original mercury accompanies clock but is presently kept in secure container and will be given to purchaser.) With Silvered beat scale and scrolled walnut holder. Movement is clean and runningThe dial and works all enclosed by a central case with three glass sides and mirrored back plate. The lower sarcophagi form case centered with Fox head medallion in relief, with plinth base decorated with a complex pattern of applied moldings.Condition: This clock has survived in a remarkable state of preservation. The dial retains its original paint and the case retains its original finish. The mirror plate and glass appear to be original. Six small sections of molding are missing from sides of the base. The winding arbor is with the clock and appears to be originalProvenance:The Pendulum marked "11" is one of the earliest known serial numbers on an E. Howard Regulator Clock.Purchased by an Atlanta Businessman at auction in Decatur, GA circa 1919.Thence by direct descent in the family to the present owner.Complete provenance will be available to purchaser.$100,000-150,000

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Property of a Private CollectorDaniel Garber (American, 1880-1958)Red Barn, 1948-1951Oil on canvas30 x 28 inchesSigned lower left of center: Daniel GarberBadura frame labelsWith Artist's note: "THE RED BARN (28×30 - upright) was started in 1948. In 1951 I cut it down about four inches to its present size, 28 x 30 inches. It was painted from the base of Old Ferry Road where it joins Route 32 - lower end of Point Pleasant, PA. The old black barn has since been town down to make room for a new and very ordinary garage. The Old Red Barn is still there. What interested me most in painting it was the relation in values of the cedar tree against the old weather-beaten barn - and the dark shadows of the cedar tree. I also enjoyed very much painting the old paling fence, the fawn-colored grass in late March. - Daniel GarberAugust 18, 1952."The Red Barn is an icon of Garber's mature style, with brilliant color, a complex composition, and his typical highly patterned, tapestry- like painting technique. The fence is a vehicle that leads the viewer into the composition, then shimmering color and changes in decorative brushwork weave the viewer through the composition. The play of light and shadow on the barn was the impetus for Garber's creation of this painting. Garber wrote to the first owner of the painting: "What interested me most in painting it was the relation in values of the cedar tree against the old weather-beaten barn - and the dark shadows of the cedar tree".We are proud to offer this work, fresh to the market, having descended in the family of the original owner and beautifully framed in its original signed Badura frame. DOCUMENTED IN ARTIST'S RECORDS Artist's Record Book I, page 76, lines 1-6: Painted from bottom of Ferry Rd[.] Pt[.] Pleaseant. A Dark Cedar tree against weather beaten unpainted Old Barn - with another Red Barn in rear. Has picket Fence in foreground. Harold D.
