Signed and inscribed to title page in black felt tip "To Major D. H. MacDonnell with appreciation and best wishes, Charles A. Lindbergh". PROVENANCE: Major Dermott H. MacDonnell was the commander of the 1st Reconnaissance Company during the Korean War from 6 December 1952 to 20 June 1953. MacDonnell ordered the mission known as Gray Rock on 27 February 1953, an ambush mission that resulted in a firefight that left three men killed, one missing and sixteen injured. MEASUREMENTS: 8-1/2" x 5-3/4". CONDITION: Inscription and signature clear and strong. Minor uniform toning to pages with small area of darker toning to lower corner. Light edge wear to dustjacket.

Description: DESCRIPTION: A model of Charles Lindbergh's NR-211 Lockheed Sirius "Tingmissartoq" made by Joe Proctor. Made of balsa covered in heat shrunk mylar. An original 22" x 28" "The Spirit of St. Louis" movie poster and a collection of photographs and newspaper clippings referencing Mr. Proctor and this model accompany the lot. PROVENANCE: Per the consignor, this piece was made as a background model for the movie "Spirit of St. Louis" starring Jimmy Stewart and purchased directly from Mr. Proctor. The Tingmissartoq was designed by Charles and his wife Anne in 1929 by John K. Northrop and Gerard Vultee. It was flown on a trip to the Orient in 1931 and various other flights including survey flights for Pan American Airways. Joe Proctor worked for Webster Airlines in Burbank, California and later Hughes Aircraft before turning to model building after his retirement in 1982. He also helped build a dozen fullsize, flyable sailplane replicas in 1946 for the Columbia Pictures film "Gallant Journey" starring Glenn Ford as aviation pioneer John J. Montgomery. MEASUREMENTS: 33" wingspan x 24" x 11" on 17" floats. CONDITION: Two slightly loose trim pieces around tail, do not detract. Poster with overall wear and age toning.

Includes an unusual watch fob issued to employees of Carpenter Steel in 1927 portraying the front of the Spirit of St. Louis with text "New York-Paris 1927 Capt. Lindbergh". Center with disc of spark-tested steel that went to the Wright factory for the J-5 Radial that powered the Spirit. The back marked "Same Carpenter Steel Arrowhead Co. Reading, PA". Together with two compass fobs marked "New York-Paris" with Spirit, the Eiffel Tower and the State of Liberty. PROVENANCE: Carpenter Steel fob obtained by consignor from former employee of the factory. MEASUREMENTS: Carpenter Steel fob 1-7/8" x 2-1/4". Compass fobs 1-5/8" x 1-3/8".
