Description: THIS IS A VERY RARE SILVER, EXTENSIVELY ENGRAVED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SHIELD SHAPED MEDAL WITH A FLORAL MOTIF. EVERY SPACE OF THE SURFACE HAS FINE, DETAILED ENGRAVING, NOT A BARE SPOT IS LEFT UNTOUCHED ON EITHER SIDE, EXCEPT FOR THE SMALL SHIELD THAT CONTAINS THE INITIALS ONE AND THE DATE ON THE OTHER. OBVERSE SIDE IS ENGRAVED Reward Of Diligence" IN SOME TYPE OF FINE SCRIPT. THE REVERSE SIDE HAS THE INITIALS M H L ENGRAVED IN EVEN A FINER TYPE OF SCRIPT, UNDER IT, 1862". THE SILVER MEDAL IS SLIGHTLY TARNISHED. ( AFTER 151 YEARS) IT IS APPROX. 1-1/2" WIDE AND 1-5/16" LONG. THE LOOP ON THE TOP WAS MADE AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE MEDAL AND WHERE IT WAS WORN HAS RUBBED A SPOT ON THE INSIDE OF THE LOOP, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE BRIGHT SILVER. Description: SECOND MOST USED RIFLE MUSKET IN CIVIL WAR.THIS IS ONE OF THE GUNS MADE BY THE LONDON ARMS CONTRACTORS FOR THE AMERICAN MARKET DURING THE WAR. OTHER LONDON CONTRACTORS WERE E. P. BOND, BARNETTE,POTTS & HUNT, GREENER AND LONDON ARMORY COMPANY.THIS GUN WAS MADE BY THE E. P BOND CO.THE LOCKPLATE IS STAMPED E. P. BOND OVER LONDON IN FRONT OF THE HAMMER. THERE IS NO STAMPING ON REAR OF LOCK. THE REAR, LEFT FLAT OF THE BARREL IS MARKED WITH THE PROOF MARK AND OTHERS BELOW IT. PART OF THE BARREL UNDERNEATH THE STOCK HAS THE NUMBER 25-25 WHICH INDICATES .577 CAL. ALONG WITH NAMES AND NUMBERS OF INSPECTORS AND GUNSMITHS. THE BARREL AND BREECH PLUG HAVE THE MATCHING NUMBER 164" THE STOCK HAS BEEN CUT 9" ABOVE THE BOTTOM BARREL BAND, BUT THE BARREL IS STILL THE FULL 39" LONG.LOCK IN WORKING ORDER, REAR SIGHT AND REAR SWIVEL MISSING. GUN STOCK IN GOOD CONDITION WITH NORMAL WEAR AND BARREL HAS A SMOOTH, ALMOST BLACK PATINA. BRASS BUTTPLATE HAS NUMBER 6937' ENGRAVED ON IT.RAMROD ALSO MISSING. THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF P1853 ENFIELD WITH LOTS OF MARKS AND MAKER NAMES AND NUMBERS. WOULD BE A GOOD GUN TO RESEARCH, RESTORE OR HANG ON THE WALL, LOCK IN GOOD WORKING ORDER
