Description: A good 19th century amputation kit by Wood, with eight implements including a bone handled knife with two detachable blades, a hook, a tourniquet and a length of ligature silk, contained in a brass bound mahogany rectangular box, the box 42 x 15cm. Provenance: formerly the property of Dr Richard Eugene Harcourt (1858-1921) who at one point was surgeon at the building of the Manchester Ship Canal (1887-1894), later practising as a GP in Liverpool. This lot is accompanied by an original certificate from Queen's College, Belfast dated May 1886.
