Description: Ackermann (Gerald, 1876-1960). Coastal landscape in summer, watercolour, signed, 21 x 33.5 cm (8.25 x 13.25 ins), framed and glazed Arthur Gerald Ackermann (1876-1960), landscape watercolourist, studied at Heatherley's and the Royal Academy, where he won the Creswick Prize and Landseer Scholarship. He painted throughout Britain, but particularly in Norfolk and East Anglia where he lived. The Leicester Galleries and the Fine Art Society have presented solo exhibitions of his work. (1)

Description: Album. An album of watercolour views and pencil drawings inscribed to "Elizabeth Blackwell. The Gift of Her Royal Highness The Landgravine of Hesse Homburg. Born Princess of England. Wimbledon(?) August 1837", nine watercolours (inc. some pen, ink & wash), plus five pencil drawings, including a view of Cirencester Marketplace and Parish Church, both approx. 26 x 18cm (10 x 7in), plus a view of Houghton Hall from the Deer Park, approx. 17.5 x 26cm (7 x 10.25in), together with a pair of eng. portraits of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Friedrich Joseph, all laid-down onto album leaves, numerous blank leaves, presentation inscription to front free endpaper, a.e.g., contemp. elaborate gilt dec. brown crushed morocco with intricate onlays, oblong folio Elizabeth, Princess of England and Landgravine of Hesse-Homburg (1770-1840), artist, was the seventh child and third daughter of George III and Queen Charlotte. She married Frederick Joseph Louis, the hereditary prince of Hesse-Homburg. (1)
