Her daughter, the little girl in the painting, married Jacques, Vicomte de Puibusque, on 31 January 1844. An old label attached to the frame reads: The lady in the portrait came from Martinique [and] married the son of Capt. Beal [sic]. The child in the portrait Ann Beal was known to Mr. Emmons when she lived in Paris at the age of 86. Madame de Puibusque--the portrait [--] was sent to Mr. Emmons from Paris in payment of a debt due him, borrowed by a son of Madame de Puibusque.
