In January 1834, under the command of Captain Haines, he crossed over to Socotra. He continued his exploration of Arabia until 1837 arriving at Muscat in an acute state of fever and in a fit of delirium he discharged both barrels of his gun into his mouth, leaving two ghastly wounds in the upper jaw.
