Description: Verner Finlay The River Lagan, Co. Antrim Oil on gesso primed board 42 x 42cm Born in 1962, Verner Finlay's love of art started at a young age. He won the first of many art competitions whilst in primary two and in his third year at Laurenhill High School, Lisburn, when he created the winning design for the Arts Advisory Council logo. After leaving school in 1978 at the age of sixteen, Verner took an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic, however he was constantly sketching and drawing, which led him to begin studying an evening A-level art course at Lisburn Technical College. He then trained as a sign writer and illustrator, which gave him the practical experience and the confidence to create his own style of landscape paintings. Verner was awarded a L.E.D.U. Artrepreneur award in 1995 and since then has not looked back. Over the past years Verner's reputation as a successful artist has grown. He has had a number of sell out exhibitions and has steadily increased in popularity among critics and collectors. He travels on his motorbike around the North and South of Ireland to photograph the landscape for his paintings, returning to spend many hour's in his studio working on them in his unique way. A traditional landscape painter with a modern twist, Verner has created a style that can truly be called his own. The scenes are built up in layers, first painted with brushes then reworked with a flat plastic card. This process is used through each painting whether landscape or still life, creating a balance between colour, line and structure. www.vernerfinlay.com

Jordi Fornies The Tree of Knowledge Encaustic,

Lot 5: Jordi Fornies The Tree of Knowledge Encaustic,

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Jordi Fornies The Tree of Knowledge Encaustic, mineral pigments, oil, bitumen and epoxy resin on canvas 100 x 100cm Jordi Forniés (born in Huesca, 1971) is a Spanish artist based in Dublin since 2006. A doctor (chemistry) by training, Jordi knows a thing or two about pigments and paint. His experience in this area combined with a very strong interest in the mineral world has lead Jordi to reinvent or re-interpret the complex yet beautiful landscapes within and without, mixing traditional and cutting edge design techniques. Sculpting external material into the canvas before blending colours as time would in rock formations, the artist invites us on a journey through the inner self, exploring the geology of the mind, the meandering of distant memories, the erosion of emotions, the passing of love. Similarly, the raised patterns and subtle tones and hues used in his external landscapes convey the artist's emotional engagement with the world around him. His work is broadly collected and can be found in important public collections like the OPW, Spanish National Historical Heritage Collection (Fondo del Patrimonio Histórico Español), Museum of Contemporary Art of Tarragona (Spain), Spanish Embassy in Ireland. Private collections include: Facebook HQ (US), KPMG, The Marker Hotel (Dublin), McCauley Daye O'Connell Architects (Dublin). Jordi is currently preparing a touring exhibition of museums in Spain (Museo El Carmen, Valencia), Museu d'Art Contemporani (Tarragona), CDAN (Huesca)) and a six month residency in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. Jordi painted The Tree of Knowledge exclusively for the SCOOP Foundation and is donating 100% of the hammer price directly to the building the school! www.jordifornies.net

Lot 10: Joby Hickey Traffic Lighting Acrylic on canvas 50

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Joby Hickey Traffic Lighting Acrylic on canvas 50 x 40cm Joby Hickey is a multifaceted visual artist who works innovatively with many different media. He is the son of renowned painter, etcher, lithographic artist, architect and designer, Patrick Hickey (RHA) and exhibted himself with the RHA in 1997. Joby's father was one of the founding members of the Graphic Studio Dublin, which was established in 1961. His characteristic painting technique developed out of his printmaking methods, just as Joby's style has developed from his innate love of film and photography. Though he completed his formal education at the National College of Art and Design, his real artistic education came from his father who taught and encouraged him for most his life. After his studies, Hickey moved to London to work in film and documentaries. He spent on-and-off about five years in the camera department, where he began to develop his own unique methods of film and photography. His unique style of painting thus evolved from his inherent passion of film and photography. ''Semi-photo-realism'' is how Hickey describes his style. ''I sometimes see my paintings as single shots from a film,'' he has commented. He creates cinematic compositions with his dramatic use contre-jour lighting, which he fuses into painting. Most of Hickey's work deals with the lighting on cars, buildings and streets. He says that cars and traffic seem natural to him. ''I see more cars a day than trees. I suppose that's just what I look for.'' These paintings are evocations of life and at times, the isolation of big city dwellers. His mastery of craft is the way in which Hickey is able to simplify his compositions. www.jobyhickey.com

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Shane Sutton The New York Subway (2010) Oil on canvas in a black box frame 100 x 70cm Inspired by his experiences and keen observations of urban living in cities around the globe (including New York, Sydney and Dublin), much of Shane's work has a photorealistic element, reminiscent of Edward Hopper or Richard Estes. Yet Shane's work is motivated by the challenge of rendering his own, unique perception of what is witnessed. Thus his work is not strictly photorealistic but rather more stylized. Loosely sketched paint is layered up to a detailed working of the subject, the artist striving toward precision with meticulous and methodical painting. Shane co-directed the multi-award-winning feature film Fight or Flight, for which he was also nominated for a Best Editing Award at the 2009 Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA). Description: Jack Hickey You Left Me Cold Oil on canvas 91 x 72cm Jack Hickey was born in 1988 in the small town of Cobh. He studied Fine Art at the Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork and graduated in 2011. His work attempts to illuminate the emptiness at the centre of human relationships, the inherent lack of meaningful interaction between different people, different sexes and different realities. The open space in the work represents the distance between individuals, the unsaid and the unrequited. It is an example of a void inherent in a modern, socially fractured world, where true human contact has become elusive, almost impossible. His paintings strive to show the hole at the centre, the empty room within, the point where unease begins. www.jackhickey.ie

For the past two years, as well as three solo shows, Duda was selected as one of the Artists to exhibit in The Art Source Exhibition in the RDS, one of Ireland's most celebrated art fairs. With a background in fashion and a love for general aesthetic, Duda's pieces are colourful and natural. While he draws a lot of inspiration from the female form, many of Duda's paintings can be characterized by a genuine appreciation for beauty. His piece Birds of a Feather was one of the highlight pieces and top sellers at the Big Egg Hunt Art Auction back in March, raising over €10,000 for The Jack & Jill Foundation. www.duda.ie

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Eugene Conway Winter Sun Oil on canvas 50 x 50cm Eugene Conway is one of the most well known are respected Landscape Artists in Ireland today. Born in Dublin and raised in County Kilkenny, his works explore stillness and isolation in the beauty of nature. Because human activity is often only suggested by the sense of the viewer watching from the seclusion of a wood or by a deserted road and the eerie anticipations of events yet to unfold, his paintings function as precursors or after images of an implied narrative. What at first seem generic scenes are painted with a deceptive detachment, which arrests our attention and focuses it on the commonplace. His work features as part of the Harvey Trust Collection which was set up to ensure preservation of some of the greatest works of 20th and 21st century Irish artists, including Louis le Brocquey, Jack B. Yeats and John Skelton. Eugene Conway has had six solo exhibitions at the Molesworth Gallery and has been a regular exhibitor at the RHA since 1998. In 2001 he was awarded the Fergus O'Ryan Memorial Award and in 2011 he was awarded the Abdul and Katherine Bubulia Art in Health Award. www.eugeneconway.com

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Jennifer Fitzgerald Just Once Ink on canvas 39 x 46cm ''Although I started my career as one of Irelands top models lasting twenty years both in Dublin and internationally, it wasn't till my father passed away in 2003 that I decided to shed my fears and insecurities and pursue my real love in life and so immersed myself into the world of art. Having completed a creative art workshop in Dun Laoghaire College of Art and life drawing under the tuition of Pat McAlister, I went on to exhibit in my hometown of Dalkey and had 3 sell-out shows. My work was inspired by the beauty of the female form but also of the inner strength of many women I have met along the way. Beauty, strength and power have always appealed to me. I was then approached by Noelle Cambell-Sharpe and invited to the artists retreat of Cill Riallaig in Co. Kerry. Many more invites followed. Inspired by the beauty around me and also Ella and Memouna that I met at Cill Rialaig resulted in works exhibited at The Irish Artman, Dingle and The Gate Gallery in Kenmare and Cork. I loved painting in oils and charcoal but when I discovered working with ink, my work took on a unique style and I felt I could truly lose myself in this medium. I was then approached by an art gallery, Sybille Mang gallery in Lindau, on Lake Constance in Germany. I was invited to take part in their ' The best of 2009/2010'' exhibition and I sold out. In April, I was part of their upcoming exhibition ' Empowered Women' where they exhibited 6 of their top selling female artists. I am currently working on a new body of work inspired by the bordellos of Paris from the 1920's and 1930's. Just Once is from this collection.''

Description: Aine Macken Ashley in bed Watercolour on canvas board 30 x 40cm Aine graduated in 2009 with a MA Art in Contemporary World and is extensively exhibited in exhibitions throughout Dublin, Cork, Galway, Wicklow, Kilkenny and the UK. Her most recent interest is in contemporary representations of the muse, the consideration of the nature of the sexualised image in contemporary visual culture and the Internet as a basis for creating personas. Depicting a group of people, each sourced from Internet searches, reaching climaxes of emotion to different extremes, her aim is to allow imagery to bridge the gap between an unsettling and arousing response. The painted image and its implications is also a concern to Aine, both in terms of how liquid can bleed and melt to form a representation of an emotion and also the materiality of a painting as an object weighted with historical significance, commercial value, and physical beauty. www.ainemacken.com

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Paul Christopher Flynn Untitled (Landscape) Oil on canvas 120 x 90cm Paul was born in Dublin in 1963. After attending the National College of Art, he moved to the United States where he lived until his return to Ireland, and to painting, in 2003. Paul's paintings have been attracting critical notice and knowledgeable buyers since he began exhibiting on railings in Dublin in the late summer of 2003. In the short time since his first painting was sold, he has sold out two consecutive appearances at Art Ireland at the Royal Dublin Society, a two-person show in Belfast Gormley Gallery, as well as two group shows for Irish Fine Arts. Paul's current work is an attempt to represent the landscapes in a way that creates a visual and emotional space in which the viewer can roam. He believes that his function as an artist is to encourage the viewer to participate in the creative process, in effect allowing viewers to explore and complete the painting for themselves as an aid to medication. This contemplative nature of Paul's paintings is what leads viewers to stand in front of them at exhibitions, seemingly lost in thought. For Paul, no high compliment is possible. www.pcflynn.com
