The vast majority are engraved with traditional Chinese scenes, there are no counters with any coats of arms or monograms, there are a quantity of plain circular other of pearl counters, another small quantity of quite thick mother of pearl oblong and circular counters and an amount of the usual typical engraved circular square and rectangular mother of pearl counters. Overall lacquer box is in very average condition, there is wear to the gilt and painted decoration on the lid, there are some minor splits along the joins and a small crack across the top only really noticeable from the inside, overall average condition. Description: DU MAURIER, DAPHNE (1907-1989) - Two typed autographed letters, from Menabilly, Par, Cornwall, being correspondence of a young reader Michael Banks, aged 15. The first dated Feb.16th 1966 reviewing the origins and characters in her book [her first novel] "The Loving Spirit", the penultimate paragraph stating "I met my late husband [General Sir Frederick "Boy" Browning] through the writing of this book. He was so charmed with the story, he came down in his motor-boat to explore the district, guessing it was Fowey and Polruan combined, and introduced himself to me. We became engaged shortly afterwards, and were then married at Lanteglos church. So the story has many very happy memories for me." The second, 2 page letter, dated August 26th 1966, relates to names and places mentioned in her book, as above, and includes pen sketches of a map. Both letters with stamped, addressed envelopes.
