Description: A rare pair of 18th Century Chinese octagonal Pagoda pattern plates with panelled and scaled borders, one with inventory details in red to the base, 22.5cm wide, Circa 1780 (2) (both with faults) The person who ordered the service, would have chosen the pattern from a shipment brought in by a 'tea clipper'. The order would then have been painted onto the reverse of the chosen plate, and fired at a low temperature. This would then have travelled by clipper back to China where the order would have been produced. The service would then have been shipped back to England on a clipper, along with the order, to be checked. This could therefore have taken up to 2 years.
