Amid Summer Blooms by Robert Peters

Lot 125S: Amid Summer Blooms by Robert Peters

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Amid Summer Blooms by Robert Peters - Edition Size: 195 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 30 x 45 Release Date: 11-2009 ???.Robert Peters has spent his life living in and absorbing all that the West and its magnificent landscapes offer. The artist states, ?My work is grounded in my earliest personal impressions.? As a child, Peters grew up in Arizona, and he remembers fondly family trips that allowed him to hike, fish, and hunt in the wild and wondrous landscapes of southwestern Colorado. In these early years, the artist was just happy to enjoy the experience of being outdoors and eager to take in all that nature offers. ?I often seek out the story in a landscape,? says Peters. He notes that ?the repetition of shape in ridges? and ?jagged rocks in juxtaposition with soft snow? are just a couple aspects that interest him in mentally forming a composition that will draw and move the viewer?s eye to take in all of nature captured on his canvas. The artist also notes that ?a judicious use of detail? makes up the light and delicate aspects of his works. The excellent ability to orchestrate color and values gives Peters? art depth and emotion. ?That?s where their (my paintings) atmosphere comes from,? adds the artist. ?In the studio, I?m composing, rearranging, and reliving.? Trips to art museums and art classes in college laid the foundation for Peters? interest in what was to become his passion and career. In college, he began painting seriously; a professor, who was also a successful commercial illustrator, acknowledged and fostered Peters? talent and potential. With a desire for a career in commercial art, the artist was fortunate to have a mentor who educated him in the various components of the business. The young Peters soon began making a living working with well known advertising and publishing companies in New York without having to live there. Peters thrived in the business and his work was in demand. During this time, he joined the Society of Illustrators. During his successful commercial art career, Peters and his wife moved to Colorado and lived on a ranch where they bred and raised show horses. This rewarding life brought new purpose to his talent as an artist. He began painting the horses they loved and the western landscape. Peters felt compelled to paint full-time and quit commercial art, and his fine art career as a landscape painter was brought to life. Now settled back in Arizona with his family, Peters paints in a spacious studio next to his home. Majestic mountain vistas and his own horse pasture contribute to his many inspired moments at the easel. The artist also ventures into the natural world he so loved as a boy to view, contemplate, make notes, and sketch an image that he will take back to his studio where it will come alive on his canvas. Adds Peters, ?If something is in one of my paintings, I?ve been there and experienced it.?

Western Nobleman by Edward Aldrich

Lot 164S: Western Nobleman by Edward Aldrich

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Western Nobleman by Edward Aldrich - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 36 x 36 Release Date: 11-2012 ???.In the vast wildlife world of Edward Aldrich, the image of an animal is more than a realistic portrayal; the artist captures the very essence of his subject. Aldrich is dedicated to reaching beyond the rendering of wildlife and the natural world; his belief is that conveying the inherent being of an animal is integral to his art. The viewer is drawn into a scene not to simply look at and appreciate it, but feels he or she has actually witnessed the wonder of wildlife. The artist?s style breaths life into his subjects and conveys a feeling of actually there. Aldrich?s precise brush technique and sense of light and composition place him in the tradition of the past masters of 19th century Britain such as Sir Edwin Henry Landseer. Aldrich graduated from the Rhode Island School of design in 1987 and has enjoyed a very successful career in wildlife painting. He paints in watercolor and in oil and travels the world to view, sketch, and photograph his subjects. The artist paints a broad spectrum of wildlife and its varied habitats, but prefers the cats, North American wildlife, and birds. As an accomplished painter, Aldrich has received numerous awards, and his work has been exhibited in shows throughout the country. In 2000, the artist received the Elliott Lisken Award of Excellence from The Society of Animal Artists. Aldrich participates in annual shows such as "Small Works, Small Wonders? at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum; "Western Visions? at the National Museum of Wildlife Art; the Oil Painters of America Annual National Show; and the "Birds in Art? at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum to name a few. The artist has also had twelve one-man shows in his career. Aldrich?s book, "Drawing and Painting Animals,? features over 100 of his paintings and drawings. In this stunning book, the viewer journeys with the artist deep into the creative process as he shares his thoughts about what goes into his artwork. Aldrich?s outstanding art has been featured in numerous articles in national publications such as Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, American Artist, and others. Edward Aldrich?s dynamic images are exhibited in galleries in the United States and in Canada. The artist and his family reside in Colorado.

Misty Crossing by Bob Wygant

Lot 257S: Misty Crossing by Bob Wygant

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Misty Crossing by Bob Wygant - Edition Size: 95 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 24 x 36 Release Date: 3-2007 ???.BOB WYGANT (1927 ? 2008) Bob Wygant held a special place in Texas and in the Western heritage he painted throughout his career. A quiet man of immense talent, his paintings came from his heart as much as from his brush. Breath-taking in his detailed and realistic approach, his images make time stand still?creating memories that offer the viewer a glimpse into a rich past that is relived through the artist?s paintings. Wygant had said, "I am interested in establishing a mood in my paintings and not a meaning. It is the viewer who brings the meaning to the work.? From the romantic cowboys to the rocky landscape and picturesque rivers to the pleasures of rural life, Wygant?s paintings brought the American West to life to be enjoyed and treasured for generations. After majoring in art at the University of Texas in Austin, he returned home to Houston to establish his career. Wygant?s first success was in commissions by some of the major oil companies in Texas. For several years, the artist worked quietly at home painting for his many clients. His images are in hundreds of homes throughout Texas and are treasured by every owner. Wygant?s growing reputation resulted in the University of Houston offering him a teaching position, where he inspired multitudes of students for 16 years. The artist also worked with the internationally-famous Houston Livestock Show in judging students? art and awarding scholarships?a way to give something back to the community. Bob Wygant?s magical use of acrylics earned him a reputation as a master of this medium. His paintings are vibrant, colorful scenes that allow the viewer to participate in the mood and emotion emanating from his subjects. He was always driven to relay his love of the Western landscape and the many memories of the quiet, rural life through his paint brush. Wygant passed away in 2008 after living for many years with his wife, Alla, in a small community north of Houston. He enjoyed a relaxed, rural life among the simple pleasures that he always loved to paint. Wygant, the man, and his outstanding talent will always be held in high esteem by the Western art world, which he so greatly influenced in his own, quiet way. Bob Wygant was such a revered figure with such a unique style in his genre that every painting he created is in a private or corporate collection and unavailable to the public.

My Fathers Business by James Seward

Lot 261S: My Fathers Business by James Seward

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: My Fathers Business by James Seward - Edition Size: 35 - Giclee on Canvas - Grande Edition Dimensions: 30 x 60 Release Date: 2-2010 ???.James Seward was born in Alabama, and raised in Tennessee. He spent summers with his grandparents in the wild back-country of Alabama. When he was six, his grandfather bought him his first set of oil paints, and as a young child he often painted his grandparents by lamp-light, to their great astonishment. "From the time I was five years old, I was continually painting and drawing in that great environment,? the artist remembers with fondness. After military service, Seward spent a year studying art under Howard Boyd Johnson at Watkins Institute in Nashville. In 1947, he enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his wife, Lyn. A year later they were married. After graduation, Seward apprenticed at two Chicago commercial art studios, but in 1954, the family moved to the midwest. After a year with an agency, he joined Union Gospel Press for the next six years. Since that time, Seward has been self-employed as a freelance illustrator and painter and has created works for most of the large protestant denominations including Standard Publishing in Cincinnati, the Methodists and Baptists in Nashville, the Concordia Lutherans in St. Louis, and the Nazarene Publishing House. Although the artist had attended church since childhood, after leaving for the Navy in 1944, he dropped his church attendance. In 1953, two former friends with whom he?d lost contact felt moved to pray for his salvation. And in 1954 when he and his family attended church with a neighbor, Jim and Lyn gave their lives to Christ.. Currently Jim is an ordained minister for the "Christ-Life Fellowship? headquartered in Dallas, Texas. He has spoken around the United States as well as in South Africa. He writes articles, makes teaching tapes and works on religious books. His religious paintings express his passion for Christ. Seward has completed over 22 illustrations for a Doubleday book entitled, Ancient Greece. In 1987 and 1989, he was one of 100 artists from around the country picked for the National Arts in the Parks Competition. James E. Seward has been commissioned for portraitures by many organizations. His paintings grace the walls of such companies as the General Motors Corporation, the Wells Fargo Bank, The McDonald Investment Company, and the Will Rogers Museum in Oklahoma. "I try not only to inform, but to move and delight with my artwork?I want the viewer to have an emotional reaction to each painting. That?s what makes it a work of art rather than just an illustration.? - James E. Seward James Seward passed away in December 2011

Down by the Water by Evan Wilson

Lot 399S: Down by the Water by Evan Wilson

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Down by the Water by Evan Wilson - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 12 x 16 Release Date: 4-2010 ???.Evan Wilson exhibited an interest in and a talent for art at an early age. The young, budding artist was provided with painting materials by a family friend, inspiring a creative journey that would be the lifelong pursuit of his calling. Wilson has a well-rounded education in art, enabling him to hone his outstanding skills. In 1971, the artist enrolled at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts, where he experimented with various styles and also completed high school. He then attended the Maryland Institute?s College of Art in Baltimore, which brought him under the tutelage of Joseph Sheppard, an internationally-known realist painter. Sheppard became Wilson?s lifelong mentor; under his training, the artist began his evolution as a realist painter. After college, Wilson studied at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore. In 1978, an exciting opportunity enhanced Wilson?s education when he was awarded the Greenshields Foundation grant to study painting in Florence, Italy. Since the early days of Wilson?s education and throughout his stellar career, he has refined his technique, using broad brushstrokes to create paintings that are immediate and of the moment. A master of painting light and its effects on objects, Wilson often incorporates swatches of sunlight in his interiors. The artist has a command of extraordinary skills that allow him to take everyday objects and scenes and make them elegant. Wilson says, "?.the fun comes when playing with traditional concepts to create something entirely new.? The artist will take casual as sunflowers and place them in silver and porcelain vases for a fresh interpretation. Wilson?s strong traditional training to paint what he sees enabled him to paint a wide array of subjects. The artist continually seeks new subjects and vibrant ways to depict them; his favorite canvases capture interiors, florals, figures, landscapes, and portraits. He extended the realism tradition into a new realm by painting a series of scenes depicting baptisms in the famous Gees Bend area of his home state of Alabama. These works have a timeless, spiritual quality that viewers respond to with emotion. In 2001, one of these paintings was featured in a solo exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art, becoming part of the museum?s permanent collection. The artist remains true to his mission to bring realist painting back to the forefront of American art. He recently participated in organizing an exhibition titled "Legacy: A Tradition Lives On,? which is on a three-year, nationwide tour of museums. Wilson?s works are exhibited with eleven other artists. Wilson has had numerous solo showings across the country and participated in many group exhibits from north to south and east to west in America. The artist?s many honors and awards commenced in 1978 and have continued; in 2006, he received the William Bouguereau Award for Emotion, Theme and The Figure at the Art Renewal Center?s Annual Salon. His works are represented in galleries in Nantucket, Charleston, and New Orleans. Wilson?s paintings are in the collections of several public institutions. The artist and his family reside in upstate New York in an early 19th-century home, which is often the subject of his paintings. He also returns to Alabama for inspiration for many of his images.

Homecoming by Sandra Kuck

Lot 442S: Homecoming by Sandra Kuck

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Homecoming by Sandra Kuck - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 30 x 20 Release Date: 6-2011 ???.When Sandra Kuck burst onto the scene in the mid-1980s, romanticism was just beginning to attract collectors. Today, romanticism enjoys unprecedented popularity and so does the artist who helped bring it into the spotlight. Ms. Kuck paints the world the way we would like it to be: a beautiful place, where mothers are eternally young and pretty, where children are sweeet and innocent and where there is time to read a book, enjoy a leisurely walk or simply daydream a sunny afternoon away. Her art is like a refuge for collectors, a place they can escape to when pressure and the pace of modern-day living needs to be relieved. Admirers of Sandra Kuck know that this talented artist puts a little of herself into every painting. Her strong sense of family and appreciation for beauty is echoed in all of her works, with which she has captured a loyal and appreciative audience. Sandra describes herself as a "romantic realist.? Her nostalgic settings and angelic children evoke memories and emotions of childhood. With vibrant color, delicate lighting, and exquisite lace and lowers, Sandra creates a romantic and peaceful atmosphere, capturing the beauty and simplicity of days gone by. Sandra finds her inspiration from many different sources, including the special relationship between mother and child, the beauty of a country garden, or the fine furnishings and the clothing of the Victorian era. Her pursuit of perfection, exacting standards, and attention to detail allows her to paint only eight to ten pieces per year. It is this ability to create flawless scenes of serenity, joy, and elegance that has made her one of the most beloved artists in North America. As a child in Ohio and Southern California, Sandra always loved to doodle and sketch. It was during her education at UCLA and The Art Student?s League in New York that she realized her love for painting children and deviated from her professors? emphasis on modern art. Later, it was her husband, John, who encouraged Sandra to pursue her dream of becoming a successful artist. Though they quickly started a family, John cared for the couple?s young children on weekends, so that Sandra could have an opportunity to develop her artistic talents. Once the children started school, Sandra was able to devote more time to her art, while John sold her works to local galleries. Their confidence in her special talents would eventually find embodiment in the collecting public. Thanks to a steadily growing fan base, it was in 1983 that Sandra?s artwork received national recognition. That year she was honored with the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers? (NALED) Plate of the Year, Print of the Year, and Artist of the Year awards. Since 1983, she has been honored each year with awards from NALED, including an unprecedented six-time honor as Artist of the Year. Although she enjoys acclaim, she treasures her time at home in her studio. A modest person, she is still easily embarrassed by praise from her faithful collectors. Sandra has responded to the overwhelming demand of her fans by extending her range of products. She has designed a collection of figurines for Lenox and is currently creating ornaments for Bradford Exchange. V.F. Fine Arts has introduced a new line of limited edition Geclees, which closely resemble her original paintings. Her work can also be found in AMCAL?s line of fine gift stationery items, as well as designs for the Geneva Watch Group and Reader's Digest. SANDRA KUCK BIOGRAPHY Dedication and perseverance have taken Sandra to great heights of success. In addition to her prestigious standing in the collectible community, Sandra was recently commissioned by the Florida Seminole Indian Tribe for a six-foot by nine-foot mural of their children. With such a busy schedule, Sandra still finds time to enjoy her three grandchildren and her home on a lake in South Florida.

The Yearling by Norm Clasen

Lot 530S: The Yearling by Norm Clasen

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: The Yearling by Norm Clasen - Edition Size: 195 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 34 x 22 Release Date: 10-2008 ???.It?s said that one picture is worth a thousand words?.this is an apt description for every image shot by famed photographer Norm Clasen. As a free-lance photographer, Clasen has traveled the globe recording man, nature, and the world around us. With a very successful career spanning four decades, the photographer-artist is passionate about his work. Clasen?s images have been featured in numerous magazines in this country, as well as in European publications. One the most exciting periods in his career was being chosen as a photographer for the world-famous "Marlboro Man? advertising campaign for twelve years, considered to be one of the most recognizable images of all time. As a result of Clasen working with many ranchers and becoming friends with them while shooting the Marlboro images, the artist began his love affair with the iconic West. The artist?s interests began focusing on the magnificent horses that roam the ranches and plains. Marveling at their sheer power, grace, and beauty, Clasen attempts to capture the magic of the animals when in full flight as the dust swirls around them and their manes float through the air. Few landscapes are too challenging for Clasen ? filming in dust, rain or snow and pushing light to its limit have resulted in this photographer-artist creating some of his most memorable and dramatic images. Clasen?s work usually reflects natural elements as the main focus using 35mm equipment in either film or digital formats. In some cases, he enhances the photographs to create an artistic aura, taking on a painting-like feeling, but maintaining their photographic quality. Always striving to reflect the timeless nature of the West, Clasen produces photographs that are at-once classic, but created with modern technology, and yet evoking softer, grainy images that appear to echo from the past. Clasen refers to this aspect of his work as "artography? and believes it is a new and evolving genre for the art market. Norm and his wife, Laura, reside on a ranch in Colorado with horses and Max the Wonderdog. With a magnificent landscape to call home, the photographer and his wife are forever grateful to be surrounded with the ever-changing beauty of nature. Join Norm Clasen as he records a world that never disappoints and offers a new vista at every turn.
