Condition Report: - the stand is separate and of a later date - old veneer cracks to top - good restored condition appearance - drain spigot is detached - no liner - good colour - lock replaced - old marks and scratches consistent with age and use - Douglas Franks started in the antiques business after leaving the army, having served during the war in the Glider Pilot Regiment. Afterwards he went to America and opened a small shop in Georgetown outside Washington, D.C. Joined by his brother, he later opened a larger shop on Connecticut Avenue, a street known for its antique shops, dealing mainly in silver, porcelain and small pieces of furniture. After five years he returned to England to further his knowledge in the business and after some years in Brighton and Hove he opened a business in Hersham, Esher dealing in good antique furniture and porcelain of all periods - in fact anything of interest or taste. He was well known and trusted in the antiques trade and dealt with many good London and American clients. Douglas, who passed away recently at the age of 92, retired from business about five years ago never losing his love and interest in antiques furniture and porcelain.
