Kim Frohsin - Historic Safety Box: Pier 70/ SF

Ships From: Burligame, CA US

Description: A stunning mixed media work featuring a historic Safety Box from Pier 70 in San Francisco. The box that was mounted to a wall near the artist's studio, is now gone, as the historic region is under mass changes in the name of progress. Soon, the 'Dog Patch" region will be unrecognizable as the old shipyard is being dismantled to make way for profitable new construction. While the artist captures scenes around her, the Pier 70 series considers people who came before — the earlier San Franciscans - the people who worked in the shipyard — and reflects days gone by. Ink, gouache, dry pigment, pen, and colored pencil on paper. Comes in a pristine museum quality pale wood frame with all archival materials. Artwork dimension is 5 x 7 inches. Outer dimension of the frame is 16 x 19 inches. A wonderful work of art by Kim Frohsin, who is often associated with the Bay Area Figurative movement. She began exhibiting in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s, and in 1993 was included with Nathan Olivera, Manuel Neri and Stephen De Staebler in an exhibit of "Four Figures from the Bay." With Wayne Thiebaud as the juror, she won the California Society of Printmakers' Award in 1996, and the following year exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in "Bay Area Art: The Morgan Flagg Collection." Frohsin is a multidisciplinary visual artist, who is at home with painting, drawing, monoprintIng, and mixed media. Her subjects include the female figure as well as mundane ''objects" and series — including ‘Cautionary Tales’ and ‘Portraits of Numbers’— that attract her attention, and which are most often autobiographical in nature.

Condition Report: Excellent. Signed front and verso.

Diana Tremaine - Aspire

Ships From: Burligame, CA US

Description: Children / girls playing, from Diana Tremaine’, whose large-scale, dynamic, figurative oil paintings reflect a search for truth and meaning in the human experience. She develops brushstrokes and marks by adding and then obliterating some of the story in a free-association editorial process of discovering what is most important and lasting. The melancholy images echo her experiences in an autobiographical fashion, but they are also universal and touch upon and evoke our collective memories like ghosts of what was. Created with a limited palette, there is visual poetry in her surfaces, including the tension that exists when simultaneously holding on and letting go. The bicoastal New York City-born artist studied and taught in both Northern and Southern California. She later moved to Montana—in a search for spiritual space and room to breathe—where she works and lives with her family and horses.

Diamonds For the Trees

Description: A brilliant painterly abstract oil on canvas painting by experimental American visual artist Erin Parish. The painting is 48 1/2 x 96 inches, and features emerald and jade green, silver and brown. An abstracted contemporary forest landscape scene. A complex painting that offers viewers much to contemplate. Erin Parish?s trademark paintings are marked by the repetition of circular forms and the influence of her diverse set of interests: the tranquility of the ocean; the meditative tenets of Buddhism, and aesthetics of Wabi Sabi; the dotted works of Yayoi Kusama; and the utopian quality of German Expressionism. Parish draws on the patterns found in nature for her subject matter, exploring the ways they mirror each other at the most microscopic and macroscopic levels.

See Saw Margy Daw

Ships From: Burligame, CA US

Description: See Saw Margy Daw' from Badgley Arnoux's 'Once Upon A Time' series, comes in two parts. Each oil on canvas is 120 inches tall x 77 inches wide. Hung together, the grand artwork is 120 x 154 inches. This masterpiece was featured at the Silicon Valley / San Francisco International Art Fair in 2015, drawing crowds to it every day. The painting speaks to multi generations, and to the ages. As the artist approached her 90th birthday, she continues to paint every day. She says in her documentary 'Shadows and Light' by William Farley, "I was very old when I was young. I wasn't young until I was old". An incredible painting from a fascinating American woman artist. The messages in these autobiographical narratives, using Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes to examine the state of the world, are harsh in the manner of Goya?s dark, war inspired masterpieces; works Badgley-Arnoux cites definitive and continuing influences. Although this type of work can be difficult to look at, it is beautiful ? beautifully executed and realized. This authentic ?from the soul? art is accomplished through the artist?s innate talent, her nearly 70 years of honed skills, and her willingness to remain emotionally open and vulnerable. Badgley-Arnoux gives us a once-in-a-lifetime visual experience with her timely vision of ?Once Upon a Time?. By, Susan Hillhouse for Badgley-Arnoux?s San Luis Obispo Museum exhibition catalogue.

Cartoon Beach

Ships From: Burligame, CA US

Description: Steeped in the Bay Area figurative movement, Mary Robertson?s oeuvre focuses on Northern California's Russian River, where she has been painting for over 25 years. The region?s beaches, umbrellas, floats, and figures are iconic in the quiet and intimate paintings of Robertson, but it is the afternoon Bay Area light that takes center stage, as it interacts with the landscape to create the real magic. Her oil paintings and watercolors have an affinity with the American Realists, the Impressionists, and the Pointillists such as Seurat. When taking in a Robertson scene, there is a sense of time standing still, and being bathed in a lazy California summer glow that doesn?t fade. Jane Kim - Prime Real Estate

Ships From: Burligame, CA US

Description: Jane Kim, one of the nations most sought after and in demand conservation / preservation artists, inspires people to love and protect the Earth one work of art at a time. 'Prime Real Estate' is set on the background of an 1890s real estate map, a record of San Francisco's constantly changing landscape and the era the eastern grey squirrels were introduced. An Amazon Prime box, a symbol of regional transformation and globalization (which has been a centuries-long process), delivers eastern grey squirrels to San Francisco to join the California ground squirrels former home. This provocative painting considers the relationships between native and non-native species. San Francisco's Golden Gate Park was not always 1000 acres of tree-lined prime real estate. Originally much of it was coastal scrub and sand dune. Once landscapers and designers re-shaped the existing vegetation with trees and exotics, they introduced non-native species like the eastern grey squirrel. A charismatic species comfortable around people, the eastern grey is a fixture in places like Manhattan's Central Park, and provides opportunity for memorable human-wildlife interaction. The California ground squirrel enjoyed no such celebration. A burrowing rodent that digs holes, the ground squirrel was viewed as a pest. This work of art was included in Kim's 2016, non(NATIVE) Artist in Residency at the de Young Museum of Art, in San Francisco. In 2015 Kim created the world's largest Ornithology mural? So Simple a Beginning?at Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. The mural is 70 x 40 feet, and depicts the evolution and diversity of birds in the Visitor Center, Ithaca, NY. Her Migrating Murals span the Eastern Sierra, and her paintings are collected Internationally. Acrylic, latex paint and collage (18th century real estate map) on wood panel.
