Gray Ghost by Edward Aldrich

Lot 7S: Gray Ghost by Edward Aldrich

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Gray Ghost by Edward Aldrich - Edition Size: 35 - Giclee on Canvas - Grande Edition Dimensions: 30 x 45 Release Date: 2-2010 ???.In the vast wildlife world of Edward Aldrich, the image of an animal is more than a realistic portrayal; the artist captures the very essence of his subject. Aldrich is dedicated to reaching beyond the rendering of wildlife and the natural world; his belief is that conveying the inherent being of an animal is integral to his art. The viewer is drawn into a scene not to simply look at and appreciate it, but feels he or she has actually witnessed the wonder of wildlife. The artist?s style breaths life into his subjects and conveys a feeling of actually there. Aldrich?s precise brush technique and sense of light and composition place him in the tradition of the past masters of 19th century Britain such as Sir Edwin Henry Landseer. Aldrich graduated from the Rhode Island School of design in 1987 and has enjoyed a very successful career in wildlife painting. He paints in watercolor and in oil and travels the world to view, sketch, and photograph his subjects. The artist paints a broad spectrum of wildlife and its varied habitats, but prefers the cats, North American wildlife, and birds. As an accomplished painter, Aldrich has received numerous awards, and his work has been exhibited in shows throughout the country. In 2000, the artist received the Elliott Lisken Award of Excellence from The Society of Animal Artists. Aldrich participates in annual shows such as "Small Works, Small Wonders? at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum; "Western Visions? at the National Museum of Wildlife Art; the Oil Painters of America Annual National Show; and the "Birds in Art? at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum to name a few. The artist has also had twelve one-man shows in his career. Aldrich?s book, "Drawing and Painting Animals,? features over 100 of his paintings and drawings. In this stunning book, the viewer journeys with the artist deep into the creative process as he shares his thoughts about what goes into his artwork. Aldrich?s outstanding art has been featured in numerous articles in national publications such as Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, American Artist, and others. Edward Aldrich?s dynamic images are exhibited in galleries in the United States and in Canada. The artist and his family reside in Colorado.

WELCOME HOME, YANK - WILLIAM S. PHILLIPS

Lot 12W: WELCOME HOME, YANK - WILLIAM S. PHILLIPS

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Welcome Home, Yank - William S. Phillips - Hand Signed Image Size: 28"w X 21"h. Edition Size:150 - A B-24 has lost one engine and streams smoke from another. She?s close to the White Cliffs of Dover but not out of trouble. Any second now, the last power may fail. Without enough altitude for a safe bail-out, her crew will brace for ditching and the English Channel is cold and choppy. She?s got one thing going for her - a Spitfire Mark IXB of the 403 Squadron based at Kenley-Middlesex has come to meet her and weaves above. If her pilot chooses to ditch, the Spit pilot will tell Air-Sea Rescue. When Bill did this painting, he liked it from the start. Old bomber pilots like it, too. Many recalled the exact situation, the irony of struggling out of enemy skies only to go down a few miles from the home base and the joy of seeing an RAF plane coming to ride herd. Built as an interceptor, the Spitfire lacked range for escorting the bombers very far. But all agreed that the plane was a beauty and never more so than when it played Samaritan for its wounded allies.

Guardian of the Atlantic by Phillip Philbeck

Lot 13S: Guardian of the Atlantic by Phillip Philbeck

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Guardian of the Atlantic by Phillip Philbeck - Edition Size: 250 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 16.5 x 35.5 Release Date: 12-2011 ???.North Carolina is the home of renowned landscape painter Phillip Philbeck. His subjects, mountains, rolling piedmont, and coastal views, hold great appeal with magnificent vistas, wide sandy shores, wonderful spring and fall foliage. Born in Washington, D.C., but a resident since very early childhood and presently living in rural Rutherford County, the artist enjoys the surroundings in which he grew up and is inspired to paint its farms, streams, ponds, coast or anything to which he feels an emotional attachment.Painting from his comfortable studio in his home, the artist only has to venture outside to find inspiration for his next landscape. Philbeck?s canvases reveal his immense talent in a profusion of details, and he is especially known for the skies in his images."The sky sets the basic tone for my landscapes,? states the artist.Textures, shapes, and contrasts derived from many of nature?s wonders are painted in vibrant colors; with interesting juxtaposition, the artist bathes his scenes in a dramatic light and atmosphere.Although Philbeck very much admires realism, he has a tendency toward the romantic, emotional types of images such as the Hudson River School brought forth. Growing up, the artist drew and painted whenever he could. With a heritage of an artistic and creative family, Philbeck?s father, who also painted, encouraged his son and nurtured the budding artist?s talents.Although basically self-taught, young Philbeck attended college where he was mentored by instructors who saw a passion and talent that they encouraged the artist to pursue. At the age of only 24, Philbeck began publishing limited edition prints, with many releases having sold out. Philbeck has a natural attraction to familiar places and things. He recalls fondly exploring the wooded landscapes of neighboring hills and mountains of his childhood, and he puts these many memories on his canvases. The artist?s greatest enjoyment comes from knowing that viewers can relate to his paintings or be taken back to a time when nature was a new, awe-inspiring adventure. When he is not painting, Philbeck enjoys constructing his own stretchers for his canvases and also possesses the talent to create frames for some of his paintings. The artist sometimes enjoys relaxing moments creating music with his guitar. Join Phillip Philbeck in appreciating all that nature offers.Come to the mountains and piedmont and enjoy the spring and the fall. Take in the glorious coastlines. And all other times when the landscape blooms anew or when the fall colors take your breath away or the smell the salt air brought by gentle breezes from the ocean.Take in the beautiful landscapes created by this very talented artist.

Garden Hideaway by Jim Hansel

Lot 14S: Garden Hideaway by Jim Hansel

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Garden Hideaway by Jim Hansel - Edition Size: 25 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 36 x 24 Release Date: 11-2009 ???.Jim Hansel is a very talented artist who has achieved success by overcoming special challenges to create his beautiful paintings. At a young age, Hansel demonstrated his artistic ability; throughout his life, he never swayed from his dream of becoming an artist. As long as the artist can recall, his love of wildlife and the outdoors have inspired his work so he may share his vision of nature?s wonders. The world Hansel paints is not always the world he sees. At the age of twelve, he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition, which has left him legally blind. Mastering his visual limitations, he has learned to create beautifully-detailed images with magnification and low-vision aids. Working only one or two inches away from the canvas, Hansel painstakingly paints in the details of a work, while forming in his mind a clear picture of the finished painting. Hansel also relies on his camera to capture his ideas and bring them into focus. He uses photographs to bring the landscapes and the wildlife models back to his studio. At this stage of starting a painting, he enlarges the photographs, if necessary, to see them more clearly. Amazingly, the artist then gazes through his glasses and commences his first brush strokes as his painting comes to life a few square inches at a time. Hansel?s visual challenges require him to spend more time on a painting adding his details than many artists?.sometimes working four months on a single canvas. Hansel wants his artwork to be judged on its own merit, not on the basis of an artist with a visual impairment. This determination and being blessed with a talent to create his outstanding images have brought him national recognition. Since his first print release in 1987, he has produced nearly 100 limited editions, and many have sold out. The artist?s attention to detail and distinctive, colorful landscapes are very popular with art collectors nationwide. Hansel credits his wife, Lois, his most ardent supporter, with much of the success of his art. Since their marriage, Lois has been involved in the production of the artist?s prints to ensure the highest possible quality. Their family also includes two children, Joe and Laura. Hansel has received national recognition and numerous awards for his wonderful art. He has been commissioned to create several paintings for Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. His limited edition prints are successful fundraisers for various conservation organizations. Hansel also has been honored with many other awards throughout his career. Jim Hansel?s art and his success are living testimony to the rewards of hard work and perseverance regardless of life?s challenges.

FISH TALES - BONNIE MARRIS

Lot 16W: FISH TALES - BONNIE MARRIS

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Fish Tales - Bonnie Marris - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Canvas - Image Size: 30"w X 20"h. Edition Size:75 - ?What you are most unprepared for when you see a grizzly in the wild the first time is the fact that it is so much bigger than you could ever have imagined,? beams Bonnie Marris. ?Part of the thrill is that they are so unpredictable-they are friendly looking but dangerous, they look so soft and yet are so tough, they are so intelligent but so wild. ?Watching grizzlies fish is one of my favorite things. They are completely preoccupied with the fish and their skills are incredible. They track and corral the fish, even turn over rocks to see if the fish have gone under them. They are so intent on what they are doing they are not bothered by your presence. It is the ultimate artist?s meditation and they simply ignore everything else. ?I really do love 'Fish Tales.' I love that you can see what the bear is concentrating on so attentively. I really wanted to show the roughness of the fur and the cold hardness of the claws. There are so many different patterns in the water, those on the surface and those below it. It?s a very serene painting even though the grizzly is hunting. I like to believe you can hear him breathing.? "Fish Tales" was unveiled at the Masters of the American West Exhibition and Sale at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The popular painting is now available as both a MasterWork? Fine Art Edition Canvas in an extremely low edition of 25 as well as a more moderate size Fine Art Edition in an edition of 75. Bring something truly wild and beautiful into your home and purchase one of Bonnie Marris? "Fish Tales" today.

He combines color, value, perspective, accuracy, and design in his scenes of the daily life of the cowboy. As a perfectionist, his attention to detail and hands-on knowledge of the cattle and horses he so loves to paint have earned the artist legends of admirers and collectors who appreciate his accurate portrayals of western life. Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Pillars of Freedom by Rod Chase - Edition Size: 350 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 18 x 24 Release Date: 3-2010 ???.As one of today?s finest and most recognized photorealist painters, Rod Chase has earned the highest respect of his peers and the admiration of legions of collectors. Each painting from the artist?s easel is a masterpiece created from extensive research and numerous photographs of each of his subjects. This technique, along with the aid of historical photographs, results in a timeless quality in each of Chase?s works. In his quest for mystique, accuracy, and a true sense of history, Chase does extensive research. His travels have led him from New York and Washington, D.C. to Colorado and California and finally to Italy in a never-ending search to obtain materials and photography for new paintings. The talented artist says, "Being a photorealist, I am dependent on finding accurate reference material for each painting.? Chase works with acrylics on canvas, spending hundreds of hours on each painting with the ultimate goal of presenting a fresh, unique, and elegant approach to familiar subjects. The detail in each painting is remarkable, but the mood each is equally impressive. Chase is acknowledged as a master of breathtaking scenes depicting our country?s natural and historical treasures. He has painted images of such famous landmarks as The White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court building to name a few. As a naturalized citizen, he felt honored as well as professionally challenged to paint these subjects. Chase also paints magnificent foreign landscapes. His travels in Italy inspired him to paint St. Peter?s Basilica and the romantic canals of Venice. The artist?s outstanding talent in his use of light is evident in "The Glory of San Pietro? and "The Mists of Morning.? Without traveling to these world-famous locales, the viewer is able to feel as if the scene is unfolding before them in person. Rising early to photograph the dramatic light of sunrise or awaiting the soft, moody glow of sunset, Chase captures the emotion and direction in which he will paint his subject. The artist will continue to create elegant, awe-inspiring scenes by combining antique and modern photographs with just the right touch of artistic license. Rod Chase is represented by Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art in San Antonio, Texas. He is published exclusively by Somerset Fine Art. Chase, a native of Canada, and his wife live with their five children in the Texas Hill Country. In 1999, he became a United States citizen.

SABZI - BLUEBIRD

Lot 45C: SABZI - BLUEBIRD

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Artist: Sabzi . Title: Bluebird. Medium: HE GICLEE ON CANVAS. Image Size: 44 x 14 1/2. Paper Size: . Limited Edition Size: 295. __________Artist Biography: Born in Ahwaz, Iran, Sabzi started painting at the age of twelve and was encouraged in his early progression as an artist by his parents and inspiring teachers. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Jundi Shapur. "The best part of agriculture was the purity of its primal spaces," he says, explaining his early sensitivity to artistic concepts.Sabzi's early works were primarily realistic, exploring the historical and cultural themes of his homeland. His departure from Iran during the Khomeini regime brought him to Germany and then the United States. This exile provided him the opportunity to explore new artistic influences, and he began to work in abstract and figurative styles.MODERN GODDESSESSabzi's subjects are almost always women -- beautiful, graceful, taciturn and melancholy; they reflect love, mystery and solitude. His women are Madonnas, modern goddesses and martyred saints whose elongated forms suggest instability and internal conflict. According to Sabzi, their anonymous faces make them into religious icons that transcend and defy the demands of reality -- reflecting warmth, charm, happiness, and his undisputed love and admiration for women. His paintings resonate both Eastern and Western philosophies. His rich Persian heritage provides him with ancient images, sentimental Persian themes and memories of innocence. He draws from the Western influence of modernism found in the works of Klee, Cezanne, Matisse and Bonnard. A QUEST FOR SPIRITUALITYHis debt to modernism, especially to Matisse, is irrefutable. Earthy hues of pale greens, yellows, purples and reds illuminate the settings and inspire the forms with unique inner vibrations. Though schematic, the treatment of the human face as luminous geometric planes is a profound statement of the artist's quest for spirituality.Sabzi goes beyond Matisse and creates spatially-revolving, post-modern worlds. Images reflected in mirrors assume a life of their own. The effect is a powerful multiplicity of emotional representation. Here the fantastic is treated as ordinary and the rich fabrics of the paintings resonate intimacy. An accomplished abstract painter, Sabzi's passion for the spiritual is represented in the open spaces, symbolism and intricate patterns that make up the backgrounds of his compositions. Juxtaposing the complex feelings, body language and attitudes of his predominantly female figures against a backdrop of shapes and forms in space, Sabzi uses texture, lines and color to make artistic statements about love and beauty.

Description: The Boys Of December - Greg Beecham - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 27 3/4"w X 18 1/2"h. Edition Size:550 - "I'm privileged to have near my home the largest herd of bighorn sheep in North America. In winter, when the rams are in rut, the hills echo with the clanging of their horns as they slam heads, competing for dominance. I know that people have been fascinated by bighorns for ages, because I find prehistoric petroglyphs of the animals on rocks throughout the area. In 'The Boys of December,' I wanted to give the impression of a cathedral or palace, the snow on the rocks and trees giving the effect of ornate architecture."
