Description: Six: Military Medal, Geo VI first type (6086574 Pte F E Goodwin, Gordons), 1939-45 star, Africa star with 1st Army clasp, Italy star, Territorial Efficiency Medal, Geo VI with additional clasp (named as Gnr Goodwin MM, RA), VF (MM edge bruised about surname) Plate 1 Note: London Gazette 20th December 1940, Pte Frederick Ernest Goodwin, 4th Bn Gordon Highlanders. Recommendation states: "On 27th May, on the line off the Ypres - Commines Canal, Pte Goodwin conveyed messages containing orders for withdrawal to Platoons in action, along roads which were being heavily shelled. After delivering his last message he was blown off his motorcycle by a shell, the motor cycle being so damaged as to be of no further use. Private Goodwin therefore stayed with the Platoon and operated a Bren Gun until the Platoon withdrew to Company HQ. There he found another motor cycle and continued his duties as a Despatch Rider. The courage displayed by this man was of a very high order and was a fine example to those around him."
