The original work, painted ca. 1505, was housed at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence starting in 1704. Florence was one of the stops during Grand Tours and the painting Tribuna of the Uffizi by Johann Zoffany (1772-1778) shows the Madonna of the Goldfinch hanging on the wall of the gallery.
