The clock in 1760 was the property of Samuel Richards of Philadelphia, great-great-grandfather of Eleanor, and stood for many years in the parlor of the Richards home, 1520 Race Street, where Eleanor was born. She had it from her great-aunt, Hannah Richards Chandlee, wife of George Chandlee, who was influential in raising funds for and erecting the Race Street Meeting House in 1856." A second typed note, signed by Eleanor Richards Koser, reads, "This clock was the property of my great-great grandfather, Samuel Richards, who had it in his possession in Philadelphia in 1760. Description: Walnut tall case clock peter stretch (1670-1746), philadelphia, pa, 1720-1735 The hood with flat cove molded cresting above arched face door with three-quarter round columnettes, the arched brass dial face with hemispherical panel engraved with unique basket of fruit and flowers flanked by scroll and dolphin spandrels, circular Black Roman numeral chapter ring with outer seconds band, subsidiary Arabic numeral seconds ring above post, oval brass boss inscribed, "Peter Stretch" below the post, four ornate brass spandrels about the face, arched lip molded waist door, plain base, flush. H: 86 in. PROVENANCE: Descended in the family to the present owner. Handwritten note signed by Isaac Webster affixed to inside of pendulum door: "The date of this clock is traced back to 1770. At that time Samuel Shinn had it, at his death his daughter Hope took it and kept it till she died in 1844 since that time I have had it in my possession up to the present date 1887. Now I pass it over to my son Alfred B Webster and if my two daughters lives longer than him it is to be returned to them and if he quits keeping house it is to be returned to them the same." The door further adorned with the business cards of those who cleaned and repaired the clock, including that of Ben A. Budd, Mount Holly, New Jersey. Lot also accompanied by typed contract signed by Burlington County Trust Company passing ownership of the clock from the mentally unsound Alice M. Harkness to Albert W. Zelley, dated Sept. 21, 1939 and by typed and handwritten correspondence between New York Antiquarian Brooks Palmer and Mr. Edmund Zelley (Albert's brother), dated March 22, 1946, March 23, and March 31, in which this Peter Stretch clock is described and discussed at length. The writing of the initial letter was prompted by the publication of Edgar Williams's article "Your Clock May Be An Antique" in the Philadelphia Inquirer on March 17, 1946; a copy of this article is also included.

Typed note and letter accompanying early photograph of the sideboard (see above) reads: "Sideboard belonged to Staats Morris (brother of Lewis Morris, a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and his wife, widow of Richard Brooks Robers and original member of the Order of the Cincinnati. Staats Morris was my g. grandmothers' step-father. She was a Roberts. At the death of Staats and his wife, the sideboard was inherited by one of their daughters. May have been Blendina. Her daughter gave it to my mother and father when they were married in 1879. Been in our possession ever since. (Signed) Sophia Gray Armitage."
