The Artist about her project Teenage Stories: Puberty is a complicated and sensitive time, especially young girls start to see themselves in the context of society and begin to question their identity. It marks a time of important physical and psychological changes. It is both a time of unease and anticipation, but also of freedom. In my paintings I try to capture these changes. I photograph girls who are not professional models, and I do not know, then place them in an unknown environment and ask them to pose in a certain way. This leads to a slight embarrassment, which I think it is part of what makes up a teenager. However, during the photo session, the girls become more and more confident and their faces are beginning to show both childlike and adult traits, which I find fascinating Conditions: The deduction is in a very good condition. The dimensions of the picture are 40,6 x 50,6 cm. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) After studying for a short period of time in Geneva and Italy, he went to Paris to study sculpture under Bourdelle from 1922 to 1925. During that time his art had both impressionist and post-impressionist elements. From 1925 on, his works departed from the naturalistic and Giacometti tried individual experiments. From 1930 to 1935 he was associated with the surrealist movement. Then he began developing the element that made him famous: emaciated and elongated figures, captured in space. The representations of isolated figures suggest a visual link to existentialism, enforced through his friendship to existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980). In 1909 an art critic described Braque’s works as “cubistic grotesques” and the term Cubism was born. Two years later, Braque was seriously wounded in the First World War. Tsuguharu-Léonard Foujita (1886-1968) Born in Tokyo, Tsuguharu-Léonard Foujita (1886-1968) spent three years studying at the local University of the Arts. During his lifetime, the artist was honoured with numerous medals and prizes. On a trip to England and France, he discovered his passion for contemporary European art. In 1913, he therefore moved to Paris. There, he met such prominent artists as Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger, Jean Cocteau, Pablo Picasso, and Amedeo Modigliani. However, especially due to his eccentric lifestyle, he was even more successful than Picasso at the highest point of his career in the 1920s. He was even considered ‘the most important artist of all time’. Nowadays, this seems somewhat forgotten. Foujita's works show a mix of traditional Japanese and modern European art. Since the mid-1920s, his works were represented in every major exhibition in Paris, Berlin, London, and New York. Foujita took the French citizenship in 1950 and converted to Catholicism. His major works include the design of the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix in Reims, which he mainly decorated with frescoes of the life of Christ. Further works can be found, among others, at the Masakichi Hirano Museum of Fine Arts in Akita. (eli) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. There is a short tear in the lower edge. The sheet dimensions are 84 x 59.5 cm. Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) Next to Andy Warhol Roy Lichtenstein is possibly the best known representative of Pop art. Pop art was formed in the 1950s independently in the USA and England and spread throughout North America and Europe in the 1960s. The motifs of Pop Art originate from everyday life, the mass media, advertising and the consumer world. The illustrations are mostly striking and photo-realistic. The forms are – like in Roy Lichtenstein’s work – often outlined in black color, equally to comics, as well as designed in primary colors. Thematically Pop Art deals with both the enthusiasm and the criticism of the affluent society of the 1950s and 1960s. In his early work, Roy Lichtenstein was still strongly influenced by Pablo Picasso and his Blue and Rose Period. The first signs of Pop Art in his work can be found in 1956. The international breakthrough came in 1961 with his work ‘Look Mickey’. From the 1980s onwards, he returned to his artistic roots, which can be found in Surrealism and Expressionism. Roy Lichtenstein exhibited at the documenta in Kassel in 1968 and 1977. In addition to paintings he created screen and woodblock prints, collages, ceramics and sculptures. After the war, Raoul Hausmann was finally reestablished as an artist and author. The manifesto of PIN (e.g. an acronym for ‘Poetry Intervenes Now’) was one of his first projects that he realized in collaboration with Kurt Schwitters in 1946. The present work shows the cover design for a magazine that Hausmann and Schwitters intended to publish in 1947, but in fact never completed. Raoul Hausmann (1886-1971) Raoul Hausmann was born in Vienna and moved to Berlin at the age of 14, where his father worked as an academic painter. He experienced the emergence of the Expressionism as a young man and contributed to the success of the magazine ‘Der Sturm’. Besides painting, Hausmann also had a deep fascination for philosophy and literature, which is why he occasionally also worked as an author. In 1917 Hausmann first met representatives of the Dadaist movement. In the following year he already participated at Dada soirées, where he made encounters with protagonists like Heartfield and Grosz. At that time Hausmann also invented the technique of photomontage, published his ‘poster poems’ and edited the magazine ‘Der Dada’ in 1919. Hausmann started to work on his novel ‘Hyle’ in 1926 and also developed his machine ‘Optophon’ that was finally registered as a patent in London in 1954. From 1930, Hausmann was primarily focused on documentary photography and experimented with photographs. Between 1933 and 1944 he was almost constantly fleeing from warfare. He was thus temporarily active in Ibiza, as well as in Zurich and Prague. After Paris and Peyrat-le-Château, he finally went to Limoges, where he spent the last years of his life.
