IVES FIRE HOUSE WITH PUMPER.

Lot 3047: IVES FIRE HOUSE WITH PUMPER.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: This is the quintessential firehouse from the late 19th or early 20th century. Without a doubt, the Ives company found and copied an existing firehouse and reproduced in miniature this toy. The clockwork mechanism when activated, a bell rings several times sounding the alarm, and suddenly the front doors burst open, and the fire pumper bolts down the inclined ramp of the firehouse, out into the street, and off to the fire. A large japanned cast iron facade with a wooden cabinet trimmed with cast iron window frames encase the two horse cast iron pumper. In completely all original, very fine condition, with working mechanics, this is a unique and highly sought after toy for collectors. Oftentimes toys of this nature could be too large and bulky, but the somewhat compact size make this an easy toy to display on one's shelf. Architecturally and aesthetically pleasing replica of a firehouse of days gone by. SIZE: 8-1/2" w x 12" h x 16-1/2" l. Pumper measures 14" l. CONDITION: Overall very fine all original condition. Remnants of paper label on paper label on roof of firehouse. Aged stress crack to roof, but not offensive or detrimental. 1-12215

Third toy is a P&L hook & ladder, an early version with an iron apparatus basket located directly behind driver. This earlier version featured a tin ex-centric wheel under the horses and a wire connected that would make it look like the horse was galloping.
