LAMOTTE LAINE EN CORDU", grooved border engraved tang, border engraved rounded locks signed respectively "Joseph Lamotte" and "Laine" and with silver-plated pans, figured walnut half-stock (broken and repaired) carved in low relief with foliage and flowers around the barrel-tang and behind the rear ramrod-pipe. Border engraved iron mounts. French, St Etienne, second half of 18th century, length 115 cm. Joseph Lamotte (circa 1716-84) worked in St Etienne and was one of the official suppliers of firearms to the cavalry during the third quarter of the 18th century. Condition 2
