Central armorial of two opposed griffins, has no initials. Stamped on back with two small indecipherable (appear French) hallmarks. 2) Small Chippendale style salver on three hoofed feet. Description: This early bowl is marked for Augsburg ca. 1680 - 1696, and with makers mark, conjoined HH (most likely Hans Heinrich Hering ca. 1696), on either side of one of the two applied beaded scrolled handles. Interior appears to be lightly gilt washed. Bottoms of lobes have light repousse scrolls, and dots. Plain pedestal base is stamped with two unknown marks, a "G" or "C" within lozenges. Lobes without handles are engraved with initials "BZ" on one end, and "BH" on the other. SIZE: 2" high. 4-1/2" long. 5-3/8" wide. 4 oz. 1.7 dwt. PROVENANCE: From a fine Kentucky Estate. Description: This outstanding box with pseudo French hallmarks on base indicating the Paris Charge Mark for either 1768-74 or 1780-91 and two other hallmarks which are unidentifiable. Cover having opposing medallions of what appears to be Louis XV and Louis XVI, having a spread winged eagle above and crossed arrows and drum below, with a garland of flowers through center. Corners have relief rams heads leading to hooved feet. The ends with oval medallions surrounded by flower garlands and torches. The front and back with ribbon topped columns, garland of flowers and central oval unmonogrammed area. Original key is present. Description: Baluster body with cast gadrooned base, has high domed hinged top with spiked scroll finial, and gadrooning around rim matching base. Nicely cast spout with acanthus decoration matches handle mounts. Rococo repousse work on body appears to be original to this pot, however it about twenty years out of date, as this decoration was most popular in the 1740's and 1750's. (Many 18th century pots have work similar to this done during the Victorian period.) Scrolled handle is of ebony. Bottom of pot is stamped with hallmarks "M" (maker unknown), sterling, London, and 1772. SIZE: 10" high. 3-7/8" diameter at base. 7-1/2" handle to spout. 20 oz. 2.5 dwt. Base, body, and cover have repousse acanthus decoration. Body is stamped with hallmarks "I.D" (possibly John Darwall), sterling, London, and 1769. Body is engraved "THIS PIECE OF PLATE is presented by PATRICK COLQUHOUN, ESQr. of London to JOHN GREIG ESQr. of the County of Ontario in the STATE of New York in the UNITED STATES of America. As a small testimony of the just sense entertained of his able and judicious management of an IMPORTANT NEGOTIATION, which by his indefatigable Zeal and unremitting attention, has been brought to a Satisfactory Conclusion. LONDON 20 AUGst. 1817." (John Greig (1779 - 1858) was a U. S. representative, lawyer, bank president, and land speculator living in Canandaigua, NY.
