Sale Notes:
This auction focuses on decorative arts of ceramic and glass from antiquity to contemporary. Pieces range from roman glass through to mid century and contemporary Japanese art pottery. The sale features works from the British Isles, Continental Europe, and North America. Selected property from the Estate of Arthur Erickson also included decorative arts and artifacts from China, Japan, India, the Middle East and more. Property From the Estate of Arthur Erickson Arthur Charles Erickson (1924-2009) was a Vancouver native and internationally renowned architect and urban planner. He designed numerous notable buildings locally and abroad, and was the recipient of numerous national and international awards and titles; including awards and titles including gold medals from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, The Architectural Institute of America, and the French AcadÈmie d'Architecture. His architectural achievements can be seen around Vancouver in the buildings of Simon Fraser University, the Museum of Anthropology, Robson Square and the surrounding Provincial Law Courts Building. He designed major buildings in the United States, Britain, China, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. Maynards is proud to offer a selection of property from the collection of the late Arthur Erickson. The selection illustrates Erickson's passion and lifelong support for the arts worldwide. He began collecting in the 1950s, representing that which he found culturally or individually significant to the places that he travelled. His successful career brought him around the globe, and during his travels he nurtured a particular interest in the arts of Japan, China, India, and the Middle East.
