Description: MARYLAND 8 GAUGE PERCUSSION SHOTGUN. American, mid 19th century. Double barrel, 8 gauge percussion shotgun made by Alexander McComas from Baltimore, Maryland. Barrels are 35" of Damascus steel, stock is crotch walnut. Extensive inlays including a dog retrieving ducks on the trigger guard. In-use repair at the wrist. According to family tradition this was known as the "Goose Gun" and originally belonged to Edward Tilghman Paca of Maryland (1812-1852), and has descended in his family. Edward was a grandson of Governor William Paca, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
