Description: A two-tone London salt-glazed 'Type C' tankard, impressed 'Martha King, 1762', applied in relief with a scrolling frieze of hunting scenes of riders and hounds chasing a stag, surrounding a central panel of a feasting scene, with date 1762 below, possibly Nathaniel Orde of Gravel Lane, 20.5cm high (chipped) Provenance: It is listed as 'C12' on page 274 of Volume 17, part 2, of the E.C.C. Transactions (2000), by W.W. Hamilton Foyn in his paper on 'Dated London Brown Salt-glazed Hunting Mugs 1713-75, and is provenanced to Jonathan Horne (ex Latham Collection). The type had previously been considered to have been made in Bristol.
