TARKAY - WAITING

Lot 7C: TARKAY - WAITING

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Artist: Tarkay. Title: Waiting. Medium: Serigraph On Paper. Image Size: 11x8. Paper Size: . Limited Edition Size: 750. __________artist Biography: Itzchak Tarkay Was Born In 1935 In Subotica On The Yugoslav-hungarian Border. Towards The End Of World War Ii, Tarkay Was Sent With His Family To The Mathausen Concentration Camp By The Nazis. Tarkay Was Only Nine Years Old At This Time. Tarkay?s Family Survived And Returned Home After The War And Itzchak Developed A Keen Interest In Art, He Won A Prize For Excellence In Painting While Still In School In Subotica. In 1949 Tarkay And His Family Immigrated To Israel And Were Sent To The Transit Camp For New Arrivals At Beer Yaakov. The Next Two Years Were Spent In A Kibbutz. In 1951 Tarkay Received A Scholarship To The Bezalel Art Academy Where He Studied For One Year Before He Had To Leave Due To Difficult Financial Circumstances At Home. In Order To Continue His Scholarship, Tarkay Was Allowed To Study Under The Artist Schwartzman Until His Mobilization In The Israeli Army. After His Service Term Ended, Tarkay Returned To His Familiar Environment In Tel Aviv And Enrolled In The Avni Institute Of Art, Which He Completed In 1956.Today, Itzchak Tarkay Is One Of The Most Popular And Loved Artists In The World. A Modern Master, Very Much Alive And Very Much In The Moment, Tarkay Draws Upon The Entire Realm Of Art History In A Body Of Work That Is Not Only Aesthetically Agreeable And Compositionally Seductive, But A Cultural Phenomenon Responsible For Countless Love Letters, Innumerable Nights Of Passion And Incalculable Furtive Glances - The Very Substance Of Visual Poetry. As A Successor To The Giants Of Art History In Popularity, Tarkay?s Graceful Personal Iconography Has Generated Over A Hundred Million Dollars Of Sales In A Decade During Which The Art Market Can Be Generously Described As Unstable. While The Dollar Value Of Art Should, In A Perfect World, Have No Bearing On The Aesthetic Value Of Creativity, Tarkay?s Acceptance By Serious Art Collectors Despite That At That Time The Relatively Low Prices Were Charged For His Originals And Limited Editions, All Of This Must Be Noted. What Chord Does This Man Strike In The Common Thread That Weaves Through Our Universal Consciousness? Tarkay?s Roots As A Painter Take Hold In The Decisive Years Of Modern Art. The Bright Colors And Flat Patterns Build On The Paths Forged By Matisse, Mouly, And The Fauves. Like Picasso And Tobiasse, The Sculptural Grows Stronger Than The Pictorial. Tarkay Constructs A Perspective And Then Takes It Away. The Paintings Go Through An Abstract Transformation, The Perspective Dissolves Into Colors And Shapes, Her Face Remains, And The World Reconstructs Around Her. She Is The Natural Woman - Satisfied, Calm, And Serene. With Closed Eyes, Her Blue Eyelids Open Onto A Different World. She Is Floating, Peaceful. There Is An Ancient Mystery In The Work Of Tarkay That Must Be Discovered For Oneself. This Is What Tarkay?s Paintings Achieve. Tarkay?s Fertile Female Form Is A Timeless Enigma. The Poses That Tarkay?s Figures Manifest Are Every Bit As Classical As The Winged Victory Or Venus De Milo. Tarkay Dives Deep Into History, And Brings Up Pearls For Our Times. The Quality Of His Line Is Organic, The Quality Of His Woman, His Art, Is Magic. Tarkay Tragically Passed Away In June Of 2012.

FAST TIMES ON THE OCEAN OF STORMS - ALAN BEAN

Lot 8W: FAST TIMES ON THE OCEAN OF STORMS - ALAN BEAN

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Fast Times On The Ocean Of Storms - Alan Bean - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 28"w X 22"h. Edition Size:100 - ?I painted myself almost flying over the surface of the moon,? says artist Alan Bean. ?Running on the moon isn?t like running on earth, mostly because the pull of gravity is only one-sixth of what we feel down here. I was light on my feet, much as I expected. When I pushed off with one foot, there was a long pause before I landed on the other foot, like running in slow motion. I could feel my leg muscles completely relax as I glided along to the next stop. I seemed to float just above the surface. I vividly recall one instance as I was running near a large crater. I felt I must look like a gazelle, leaping long distances with each bound. I looked over at my partner, Apollo 12 Commander Pete Conrad, as he ran nearby. His leaps were graceful and he was space-borne for a long time but, to my surprise, he wasn?t rising very high or leaping far at all. Then I realized that in the moon?s light gravity, we did not have the traction to push hard backwards with our boots. I wasn?t leaping like a gazelle¯it only felt that way. Running on the Ocean of Storms was relatively easy and a whole lot of fun. I was always in a hurry to get to the next exploration site because, like many things in life, there was so much to do and so little time to do it.?

They love to trench about through the snow with their noses and when they come up with a pile on their snouts, they're perfectly convinced they're covered - because that's what they see. Sweet Nothins' by Bruce Greene

Lot 10S: Sweet Nothins' by Bruce Greene

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Sweet Nothins' by Bruce Greene - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 10 x 20 Release Date: 3-2012 ???.Bruce Greene is a Western painter who has ridden trails and experienced the cowboy life he portrays in the very narrative images he creates. The artist is a native Texan who has reached the pinnacle of his profession through hard work and an extraordinary talent for painting the story of one of our country?s most revered icons, the American cowboy. His scenes of contemporary cowboys going about their daily work are admired and collected across America. Several years ago, Bruce began making annual trips to join in the spring work on the legendary JA Ranch in the Palo Duro Canyon of north Texas. As Greene describes his trip, ?I go up there and stay on the chuck wagon with the JA hands and the neighbors that have come to help. We ride a lot of miles in rough country. It can be cold, hot, windy, and wet. As a matter of fact, it can be all of these in one day. A fella' could get lost in some of the mesquite or cedar thickets. Of course, we work a few cows on our place and help out a neighbor now and then, but the JA trip has been a real inspiration for me each year. I am absolutely sure that this experience has greatly affected my artwork. It seems necessary, to me, in order to depict the contemporary cowboy with accuracy and feeling. My good friend, Red Steagall, calls it ?getting the dust in your nose.? For me, that dust makes the difference.? One of Greene?s most enjoyable, recent projects was creating a painting for the Texas Rangers Association Foundation commemorating and honoring the history and high standards of the Texas Rangers. The painting, titled ?The Ranger Code,? was purchased by members of the Foundation?s board and is in the permanent collection of outstanding Ranger art at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. Greene was elected to membership in the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America in 1993 and served as its President in 2003. The artist and his family live on a small ranch in the historical community of Norse, near Clifton, Texas. Greene?s studio sets on the edge of a hill behind his home. From this vantage point, large north windows offer a continuous view of the Texas Hill Country, a few Hereford cows, and the occasional whitetail deer. ?It is a wonderful blessing to be able to make a living for my family doing what I love in this beautiful place,? says Greene. Greene?s works are represented by several well known galleries in the Southwest. He has presented his art in annual shows and exhibition such as the Cowboy Artists of America Exhibition, the Prix de West Show at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage Sale, just to name a few, and other prestigious venues.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Ribbons by Cynthia Decker - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Signed - Museum Wrapped Dimensions: 22.5 x 36 Release Date: 9-2012 ???.As a child, I would draw and paint at any opportunity. My Mother taught computer science at a local college, and we had a computer in the house when not very many people had home computers. With a computer instructor for a mom, and an engineer for a dad, my earliest art materials were green and white perforated computer paper, and I used to doodle on used punch cards. I began drawing on the computer ?pixel by pixel in green and black monochrome? on an Apple II computer when I was about 13. Throughout high school and college I studied and practiced drawing and design, and as the technology became available to me I started digital painting, while continuing to work in traditional media; pastels, acrylics and oils. I left college to begin a graphic design career and continued to teach myself and explore new digital media. I began using 3D software in 1998 and was immediately hooked. Initially, my portfolio was exclusively online, and I participated in many web-based galleries. People began requesting prints through my website and after doing research into fine art printing, I began creating and selling high resolution archival prints of my work in 2002. That same year I had my first solo show, and I believe it was the first show of non-photographic digital work in North Carolina.

Comforts of Home by Jim Hansel

Lot 24S: Comforts of Home by Jim Hansel

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Comforts of Home by Jim Hansel - Edition Size: 248 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 16 x 24 Release Date: 11-2009 ???.Jim Hansel is a very talented artist who has achieved success by overcoming special challenges to create his beautiful paintings. At a young age, Hansel demonstrated his artistic ability; throughout his life, he never swayed from his dream of becoming an artist. As long as the artist can recall, his love of wildlife and the outdoors have inspired his work so he may share his vision of nature?s wonders. The world Hansel paints is not always the world he sees. At the age of twelve, he was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition, which has left him legally blind. Mastering his visual limitations, he has learned to create beautifully-detailed images with magnification and low-vision aids. Working only one or two inches away from the canvas, Hansel painstakingly paints in the details of a work, while forming in his mind a clear picture of the finished painting. Hansel also relies on his camera to capture his ideas and bring them into focus. He uses photographs to bring the landscapes and the wildlife models back to his studio. At this stage of starting a painting, he enlarges the photographs, if necessary, to see them more clearly. Amazingly, the artist then gazes through his glasses and commences his first brush strokes as his painting comes to life a few square inches at a time. Hansel?s visual challenges require him to spend more time on a painting adding his details than many artists?.sometimes working four months on a single canvas. Hansel wants his artwork to be judged on its own merit, not on the basis of an artist with a visual impairment. This determination and being blessed with a talent to create his outstanding images have brought him national recognition. Since his first print release in 1987, he has produced nearly 100 limited editions, and many have sold out. The artist?s attention to detail and distinctive, colorful landscapes are very popular with art collectors nationwide. Hansel credits his wife, Lois, his most ardent supporter, with much of the success of his art. Since their marriage, Lois has been involved in the production of the artist?s prints to ensure the highest possible quality. Their family also includes two children, Joe and Laura. Hansel has received national recognition and numerous awards for his wonderful art. He has been commissioned to create several paintings for Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. His limited edition prints are successful fundraisers for various conservation organizations. Hansel also has been honored with many other awards throughout his career. Jim Hansel?s art and his success are living testimony to the rewards of hard work and perseverance regardless of life?s challenges.

Description: Mountain Trail by Jim Rey - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 14 x 10.5 Release Date: 7-2010 ???.Having grown up in a ranching family, western artist Jim Rey naturally loves working with horses and cattle. His eyes light up when he talks about training his Border Collie or a particularly wary horse, the days he has spent gathering cows in the high county or following a herd of wild horses. The paintings of Jim Rey tell the story of cowboys as living remnants of a bygone era. The stories he paints are both his own and those of the people and places he knows and loves. The work of Jim Rey is collected nationally and internationally. His art has been exhibited in the Fredric Remington Museum in New York, as well as in many noted shows and exhibitions. His paintings have been used by Bantam Books and Encyclopedia Brittanica. Articles have been published in magazines including Southwest Art, art of the West, artists of the Rockies and International Fine art Magazine. The work of Jim Rey has also been featured in such newspapers as the The Denver Post, The Rocky Mountain News, The Durango Herald, The Vail Times and The Aspen Times. Jim Rey and his wife, Sharon have recently moved from Southwest Colorado to a farm in the sand hills north of Mitchell, Nebraska, in search of wide open spaces and fewer people. The open plains to the south and east, the Rocky Mountains to the west and the cattle ranges to the north are inspiration for his paintings of life in the American West.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Wings to Fly by Karen Kelly - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Signed Dimensions: 32 x 24 Release Date: 4-2010 ???.My life experience and pleasures are translated through my work as an artist and photographer. I have been compelled by the innate power of the horse and its elegant beauty since childhood, striving to capture the raw energy and motion as well as the unique emotional connection between not only man and beast, but man and earth.I am attracted to expressive and experimental styles of working which not only generate some surprises, but also afford a sense of personal freedom.Sometimes a viewer will look twice at an image and not immediately be certain what the subject is exactly, but will definitely experience a positive feeling. I?ve had several people respond to pieces in this collection in a pure emotional fashion without even acknowledging the subject matter.Shooting photos digitally has proven to be invaluable in capturing rare moments of raw, textured forcefulness. Continuing with a vision, I work digitally to bring out the drama in a partial, painterly manner hoping to invoke feelings of an almost musical sense of connectedness.20 years of experience also include a strong background in graphic design, traditional art, artdirection, and four years of teaching at the Art Institute in Denver. Karen Kelly?s creative photography is presented in the contemporary style of Somerset Décor offerings. Each image is giclée printed with a solid black border on fine art canvas and stretched around 2 inch deep and solid wood bars. These museum quality matte canvas offerings are coated with a water-based semi-gloss coating to provide protection from ultra violet rays, dust, light moisture, and handling. They are designed to hang or stand without framing.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Crossing the Creek by Tim Cox - Edition Size: 150 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 24 x 36 Release Date: 11-2008 ???.As a young child, Tim Cox vowed he ?was going to be a cowboy artist? when he grew up, and he has lived that dream for 30 years. Growing up in a small farming and ranching community in Arizona was a natural environment that influenced Cox?s love for being surrounded by cattle and horses and the wide open spaces. While most of the artist?s time is spent painting, he rides and works on various ranches throughout the West and also raises cattle and trains horses he owns. Cox?s everyday experience with the cowboy life is reflected in the outstanding works that he creates. He combines color, value, perspective, accuracy, and design in his scenes of the daily life of the cowboy. As a perfectionist, his attention to detail and hands-on knowledge of the cattle and horses he so loves to paint have earned the artist legends of admirers and collectors who appreciate his accurate portrayals of western life. Viewers are brought up-close and personal with the animals and people who inhabit Cox?s world. The West comes alive in his paintings. Considered one of the great western artists of our time, Cox is one of today?s most successful painters in his genre. Through the years, many accolades have been bestowed on this very talented artist, and this year Cox was asked to join the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America; he participated in the 2008 exhibition. Cox has won numerous awards for his wonderful art. In 2008, Décor magazine featured Cox as one of the 14 Most Enduring and Successful Poster Artists. In 2007, his painting, ?Good Horses and Wide Open Spaces,? won the Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Award; at this same exhibit in 2004, ?Along Eagle Creek? won the award. In 2003, the artist was honored with one of the most prestigious awards in western art at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum exhibit. Cox?s painting, ?On to Better Pastures,? won the coveted Prix de West Purchase Award. In 2001, the artist was awarded the Will Rogers Western Artist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists and Friends of Western Art. Cox is also a three-time winner of the Olaf Wieghorst Best of Show at The Mountain Oyster Club. Tim, a fourth generation Arizonan, and his wife, Suzie, enjoy the life that the artist paints on their ranch in New Mexico that they call home. Surrounded by their cattle and horses, they truly live the western life that most of us can only dream about.

From the time Bob was a young child he had a strong passion for photography. As his skills progressed, he was able to create surrealism in any subject matter he photographed. Being so closely associated with the West Texas oilfield scene, it was only natural that Bob would soon turn his creative eye to what was nearest and most familiar to him and turn it into an art form. Using high dynamic range photography and photographic manipulation Bob is able to capture the essence and beauty of the rigs and any associated equipment using explosive color and dynamic skies that are unlike anywhere else in the country.
