Large Important Needlework of a Jared French Painting by his friend George Platt Lynes

Ships From: Spencertown, NY US

Description: George Platt Lynes was an important and iconic early to mid Twentieth Century fashion photographer and trail blazer in male nude photography. Most of George's male nude photo negatives were bequeathed by him to his friend Alfred Kinsey and remain in The Kinsey Institute. He knew and was known by a wide circle of some of the most important cultural and societal figures in America of his time, many of whom he called friends, including Jared French whose painting "Elemental Play" this needlework is a copy of. George was known to do needlework for relaxation which is mentioned in Rizzoli's book "George Platt Lynes, Male Nudes". I acquired the work from the late John Wisner who was a good friend of George's in the 1940's/1950's, and who acquired it from George to settle a debt in the late 1940's.It was originally made into a cushion and displayed in John's weekend house in Long Island.

AUTO BRAND SIGN 1915 / Thos. Cusack Co.

Ships From: Spencertown, NY US

Description: A very rare and original piece of outdoor advertising by Thomas Cusack, who was an important pioneer in early billboard advertising. Born in County Claire, Ireland, he migrated to the United States in 1861. at the age of 17, he established a sign painting business, The Thomas Cusack Company, in Chicago, Illinois, which became very sucessful with more than one hundred offices and reaching over $20,000,000.00 in annual revenue in the early 20th Century. Cusack, who later became a politician in Illinois, was known as a business man for his fair labor practices and friendly relationships with his employees. This sign is more than likely a very rare survivor of his work. Many of his signs were painted on sides of buildings and, as such, have not survived. Additionally because of the size and nature of the tin signs, it is hard to imagine that there are many survivors of these pieces either, especially in this condition. The back is also untouched with information written at the time of it's creation referencing the creator and the vendor. The Kylix Collection is proud to offer this significant early piece of American Advertising Art.

Condition Report: Good. ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED CONDITION! Some loss to paint, distressing, and small pieces missing on original frame, but.....extraordinary original condition for a piece of it's age and size.
