The letter is typed on the reverse of a photocopy of two Newspaper articles about a murdered girl in NY and another about Stephen Garofolo's second trial verdict. In the letter Berkowitz is asking Channel to gather articles on sacrifices to send to an attorney (not named) in Minot, ND. Berkowitz also mentions "J.J." and uses a hangman game for another persons name or nickname. One page letter is signed off only with "Sunshine". Envelope carries his name and inmate number in Attica as return address. Post marked Sept. 8, 1980 from Buffalo, NY. Overall very good to excellent condition.

Also referencing newspaper clippings he has enclosed referring to The Rolling Stones and occult ties surrounding Anita Pallenberg and other articles about a British "Ripper" case of the time. The letter is signed "Love David". All clippings are mounted to typing paper and there is a "cover" sheet with hand written note "6 clippings / these are for you / not to be returned" plus a "smiley" face. He then talks about a letter that he wrote to John (Louis) Evans in Alabama. He says he was not sure what he wrote and that it just "flowed from my mind". He says "Somehow I related to him and felt a letter would be nice". The letter is signed "Take care love David". The letter is in very good condition although no envelope is present.

Description: David Berkowitz (Son of Sam, .44 caliber killer) killed 6 people and wounded 7 more in a killing spree in 1976-1977 and has been in prison since his 1977. This two page hand written letter to confidante Dee Channel dated March 20, 1979 explains that the demon possessed defense "was all a hoax" and explains where he got the idea. The books that he read and the time he spent at a Baptist Church in Louisville. He references several books including one called "Occult Bondage and Deliverance" and specifically draws her attention to pages 181-183 saying they "fit me exactly, 100%". The chapter is entitled "Neurosis or the Demonic" and describes "Pseudo-Possession". The letter is either a "True confession" of a serial killers use of possession as a defense or an attempt to dupe the reader, This reader believes the former rather than the later. The letter is signed "David Berkowitz Attica New York" Included are two envelope covers from letters sent by Dee to David with his notes about how long they took to arrive as well as some newspaper clippings from the time about religion. the envelope is hand typed and has Berkowitz's name and inmate number in the return address corner and is postmarked Buffalo NY on Mar. 20, 1979. In a circular he has enclosed (heavily underlined and circled). He recalls an incident from his past and ends with "God Bless th following: The Longshoreman's Union #602 / 7-11 Food Stores / A & P Supermarkets / Organized Labor and Unions / and Jimmy "The Bull" Sepe a Mafia Boss" and "Sincerely, Battle-Axe Berkowitz" a reference to the religious newsletter. There is a "PS: Thank God for chain stores" and a "PSS: I received your letter dated 3/24 #012 (date and number hand written). All in very good condition and with a handwritten envelope with Berkowitz's name and inmate number in return address corner and being postmarked on receipt April 2, 1979.

In the letter Berkowitz lays out the "Code of the Letter Writing Society" (of which he is the self proclaimed Chairman). He mentions Maury Terry and Pienciak as being pesky about questions and information. He signs the letter David Berkowitz (and hand signs "David"). Also included is the cover from the envelope of her letter received 2/22. The envelope has "D. Berkowitz" hand written above the Attica letterhead return corner, is hand addressed to Dee Channel and is postmarked Attica NY Feb. 25, 1980. All are in very good condition.

Description: Correspondence letters to and From David Berkowitz (Son of Sam, .44 caliber killer) and Dee Channel dated late March 1980. In David's letter to Dee on 3/19/80 he admonishes her for speaking to people on his behalf and telling them he is sick. He talks about Ted Bundy and Bianchi (Hillside Strangler) and their mental states. Three pages typed (with hand corrections). He closes with "Love David" (typed). Hand written envelope is included. He follows up this letter on 3/23/80 with another letter reiterating his previous position with some very strong language to the point of calling her "demonized". He talks of the "Son of Sam" book by Lawrence Klausner being released, about walking around Attica unsupervised as proof of his sanity. He responds to her claims that he is "manic-depressive" by stating she is unqualified to make the claim. He rants about the treatment he has had to endure, including having his throat slashed. He gets very fired up and closes by saying, "I am sane- was and always have been!" and there is a hand written "P.S. in essence, I should have been a babbling idiot by now" with a typed sign off "Sincerely David". Also with it's hand written envelope. Dee's response letter is a simple one page retort of his accusations and a basic good by letter. She signs off with "Love, "(typed) "Dee" (handwritten). Two of the letters note enclosures but none are present with the exception of a handwritten note on a paper scrap from David that reads in full "Dee, Please don't write to any one of these individuals who sent me letters. D.B." All items are in very good condition.

Part I lays out the case and part II includes exhibits and also includes a copy of a Feb. 1980 letter Berkowitz sent to then Gov. Hugh Carey. Part I contains Berkowitz's signature on 7 documents that are notarized. Part II has some hand notations in his hand but no signatures. Accompanying the documents is a hand written note to Dee Channel dated July 3, 1980 through whom the documents were acquired. The note reads "This should go out on July 7th. Please let me know when it arrives and if it arrives untampered. I did my best but give it an honest opinion. keep it a secret. Love David 2 ENCL". the documents are in the original plastic sleeves and are in very good condition.
