Beatles

Lot 2001: Beatles

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Color vintage 19.75 x 13 two-page gatefold magazine photo, signed in black ballpoint by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr and in blue ballpoint by John Lennon. A central vertical fold, moderate to heavy contrast to Starr's signature, moderate contrast to last potion of Lennon's signature and scattered bends and creases, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. Signatures were obtained by Hong Kong based DJ 'Uncle' Ray Cordeiro. Cordeiro interviewed the band three times in 1964, twice in London and once in Hong Kong. Prior to one of the interviews in London, he stopped off at a newspaper stand, purchased the copy of Fabulous and showed it to the group during the interview. According to Cordeiro, McCartney asked if he could take a look at the magazine as he hadn't seen it yet. He then asked Paul to autograph it for him. McCartney autographed the first page and then carried on flicking through the magazine and he signed every photo that he saw of himself. John, George and Ringo noticed what Paul was doing so when they were asked to sign as well they followed suit.

Lot 2002: Beatles

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Vintage glossy 7.5 x 5.75 'Star Pics' series deckle-edge group photo, signed in blue ballpoint, "John Lennon," "Paul McCartney," "George Harrison," and "Ringo Starr xxx." Collector's notation to reverse reads, "1st September 1963, Big Night Out, Manchester." In very good condition, with scattered creases and soiling to the top (lightly affecting Lennon's signature), and some slight skipping to ink. On September 1 at Didsbury Studio Centre in Manchester, the Beatles mimed performances of 'From Me To You,' 'She Loves You,' and 'Twist And Shout,' in front of a 600 person audience. The performance was broadcast later that week on ABC Television's Big Night Out.

Lot 2003: Beatles

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Magnificent and rare color vintage 8.75 x 11.75 composite magazine photo, most likely from early 1963, featuring close-up images of each of the Fab Four, signed in blue ballpoint on their images by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Small blocks of toning from tape remnants to each corner tip, mild surface impressions of signatures of Lennon, Starr, and Harrison (presumably from having signed another page in the magazine), some light surface creases, and just a bit of light contrast to Harrison's signature, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo. Only a handful of signed color photos of the Beatles are known to exist, making this an item of the utmost rarity.

Lot 2004: Beatles

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Rare and very early Beatles Fan Club promotional photo, 5.25 x 3.5, signed on the reverse in green ballpoint, "Paul McCartney," in black ballpoint, "John Lennon," and "George Harrison," and in blue ballpoint, "Ringo Starr." In very good condition, with mild overall spotting to reverse, not affecting the boldness or clarity of the signatures, a few creases to reverse; and scattered creases, soiling, surface impressions and light silvering to image side. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, who states "The signatures date from late 1962, and these are excellent representative examples from this period"; as well as letters of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Perry Cox, and Tracks. Also accompanied by a 2012 letter of provenance from the original recipient who received the photo after becoming a member of the band's fan club. In November of 1962, the band recorded 'Please Please Me,' and finished another stay in Hamburg. It was at this time the band's manager, Brian Epstein, polished the band and prepared them for super-stardom. A particularly early and well-preserved example with outstanding provenance and support.
