On either side of the door a carved pillar with foliage resting on tiger heads and paws. Inside one shelf. The door locks with a key. Restoration. Ca. 1870.The cabinet once belonged to Captain Alfred John Loftus (1834-1899) who joined the government services under the Regent H.G. Si Suriyawongse as a hydrographer. He received it as a gift from Rama V, as documented by a small notebook with a silver cover displaying a photograph of the young king. On the first page a dedication is written in pencil "Presented to Captain Loftus by HM The King of Siam Jan 9th-1878".
