Original autographs of The Beatles

Lot 1: Original autographs of The Beatles

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: AUTOGRAPHS & MANUSCRIPTS - BEATLES, The. Autographs of George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and [Jimmie Nicol]. Original autographs of The Beatles: George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney in black ink (Lennon) and blue pen on postcard 9 x 13.5 cm., attached with sellotape on a contemporary decorated back cover of a plastic photo album. With the signature of Jimmie Nicol written as 'Jimmy Nichols' probably by Paul McCartney himself. Inscribed by the fan, a 12-year-old girl: "Handtekening Beatles van 1963 [=1964] Ringo lag in het ziekenhuis voor z'n amandelen Jimmy Nichols viel voor hem in. Deze was waardeloos" ["Autographs Beatles 1963 [=1964] Ringo was in the hospital for his tonsils Jimmy Nichols stood in for him. He was rubbish"] (upper center). The Beatles were in Holland for a legendary concert in Blokker, West-Friesland on June 6, 1964. On June 3, 1964, Ringo Starr, the drummer was hospitalised for a severe and sudden case of tonsillitis. Brian Epstein, the manager decided that the tour should not be cancelled and he hired Jimmie Nicol, a professional 24-year-old drummer as a substitute for Ringo Starr. To her great disappointment her parents didn't allow the present owner - twelve years old at the time - to go to the concert, but because of her best friend, who collected these autographs, she possesses a souvenir of the unusual four that most of the lucky ones who did attend the concert could only dream of

Burroughs '89' (under the etching). Manuscript produced specifically for reproduction in 'The Valley'. Autograph stories by William Burroughs are seldom offered. The footnotes include references to (works of) Newton and the churchman and orientalist Humphrey Prideaux, the scholarship of the latter depending in particular on Edward Pococke. Vijgh originated from a Baptist family. In 1768 she married the Remonstrant Gerard van Nijmegen with whom she regularly visited a religious community in Rijnsburg, the place where they most likely met Betje Wolff and Aagje Deken. A number of letters dated 1779-1780 written by Wolff and Deken to the couple Vijgh-van Nijmegen are known. In the summer of 1779 Wolff and Deken resided with the couple Vijgh-van Nijmegen in Rotterdam. It was during these years that Suzanna Vijgh worked on the current manuscript, as can be derived from the original letters written by the minister Jan Kornelis Valk accompanying the manuscript. In his first letter Valk mentions Betje Wolff and Aagje Deken. Binding with traces of use but in fine condition. Important manuscript in a fine binding. Unpublished, unique source

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: AUTOGRAPHS & MANUSCRIPTS - WWII - DOORMAN, P.L.G. (Dutch 1896 - 1966). Diary of Colonel Doorman, the warrant-officer of Prince Bernhard. Original manuscript, 3 juni 1944 - 26 mei 1945. Original half calf album , 31 x 24 cm. With mounted paper clippings and texts. 126 p., with 8 separate sheets including an original telegram of His Royal Highness Prince Bernhard dated 5 december 1944: "[...] UNDER NO RPT NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO ANYTHING BEFORE I RETURN STOP". Spine damaged. Highly controversial document, for sale for the first time. In this diary Doorman mentions Prince Bernhard's plan to execute 200 captured soldiers, all Dutch members of the SS: "(...)
