Description: BERLIN-IRON-COLLIER Germany, ca. 1830 Cast iron, s-hook made from 585/- yellow gold subsequently mounted, weight: 29,5g. L x W = ca. 65,5 x 1,0-2,0cm. Collier elements have floral pattern, unsigned. The production of iron jewellery developed in foundries such as the foundry of Gleiwitz, where they began the production of medals in 1798. In Berlin beginning in 1810 cast iron jewellery could be produced thanks to the founding of the state iron foundry. In 1820, early neo-Gothic designs were used such as tracery, trefoil, crabs or finials. Later the designs broke away from this strict decor and evolved into flower baskets, leaves and flower vines. Vom Ring fÜr Vaterlandsliebe bis zum Schmetterlingscollier, S. 73-79, in: Die königliche Eisen-Giesserei zu Berlin, Die Sammlung Preussischer Eisenkunstguss in der Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin, Berlin 2004.
