At Giacomino

Lot 20010: At Giacomino

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Aldo Luongo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, of Italian heritage. Since as far back as he can remember, Luongo had two great passions: art and soccer. Shortly after his graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Luongo came to the U.S. to play professional soccer for the New York Generals. After his athletic career was cut short due to an injury, he arrived in New York City with a dream to pursue his artwork full time. In the 70's, he had his first major success with multiple reproductions of his black & white drawings. Not only were these prints released to great critical acclaim, they were a huge commercial success as well (hundreds of thousands of pieces sold within several years). Aldo had put himself on the map as a major international artist. Aldo Luongo has continued his reign at the top of the contemporary art world for almost four decades - a distinction that puts him in a class of his own. He has received numerous awards and honors, including being named a 3-time official Olympic Artist (Summer 1988, Summer 1996, and Winter 2002); an official World Cup Artist (1998); an official U.S. Women's World Cup Artist (1999); and the 1999 Sports Artist of the Year (U.S. Sports Museum). He also has twice been chosen to paint eggs for the White House Easter Egg Hunt which now reside in the Smithsonian Institute. From his acrylics to his fine art prints, all of Aldo Luongo's pieces embody the same sense of fluidity and intensity, the result of a true artist engaged in the passionate process of creation. His bold, impressionistic style has often been referred to as "Romance on Canvas". Central to all of Luongo's paintings is the balance between memory and hope, sorrow and humor, freedom and control. These dynamics are clearly apparent in his figurative works, especially those portraying "The Hawk", an archetypal character based on the memory of his father and the discovery of his future self. Aldo Luongo's artwork captures more than just the viewers gaze. it echoes the experiences of life lived to the fullest.

Abstract by Hohne Mixed Media 1 of a kind 32x32

Lot 20029: Abstract by Hohne Mixed Media 1 of a kind 32x32

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Sokol-Hohne Artist's Biography Starlie Sokol-Hohne was born in 1958 in Santa Monica, California and completed her studies at UCLA in 1980. Combining images of antiquity with contemporary mixed media printmaking techniques, Starlie creates visually interesting images, combining past and present elements. As with many contemporary artists, photography and technology play a part in the achievement of the artists' expression. Sokol images are conceived and assembled with parts of images from a variety of sources. As with Rauchenburg, the final product is the result of the unique combination and juxtaposition of photographic images. Physical collage and hand painting blend these elements into a more cohesive and realistic perspective. The result is the reality of her idealized image. It is that unique result which is distinctively a Sokol.

Minuteman by LeRoy Neiman S/N 28x31 Serigraph

Lot 20034: Minuteman by LeRoy Neiman S/N 28x31 Serigraph

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Known the world over for his striking, vibrant depictions of sporting events, leisure activities and other social gatherings, LeRoy Neiman is indisputably one of the most popular and widely known artists of the modern era. From 10 years in the classroom as an instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago early in his career after completing his own studies there, to being the official artist at five separate Olympiads and even working for CBS as a Super Bowl computer artist, LeRoy Neiman has come to be defined by his spectacular ability of taking everyday life events and turning them into magnificent works of art. Born on June 8, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota, LeRoy Neiman was raised by his mother and two different stepfathers after his biological father abandoned the family early in his childhood. Living his early years in a rough blue-collar St. Paul neighborhood, Neiman's initial interest in art began at a very young age when a painting be made of a fish in the sixth grade won a prize in a national art competition. He went on in his teenage years to earn extra money by painting images of fruit, vegetables and meat on the windows of local grocery stores. He even painted portraits of the shopkeepers themselves. While serving in the United States Army beginning in 1942, LeRoy Neiman began to gain significant recognition amongst his Army colleagues when he painted a number of eye-catching, sexually suggestive murals on the walls of military kitchens and dining halls that drew great praise from both men and women. Neiman would later go on to be a contributing artist for Playboy magazine in the 1950's, to which he still contributes illustrations to this day. In 1953, LeRoy Neiman held his first solo art shows to display some of his earliest works at galleries in Chicago and Lincoln, Illinois. Art lovers and novices alike immediately recognized and developed great respect for Neiman's unique style, willingness to take risks and incredible ability to appeal to people of all ages, ethic groups and socio-economic backgrounds. Since the remarkable success of those first shows in 1953, Neiman has gone on to create some of the most beloved and well known paintings in United Stated history. Citing Leonardo da Vinci and Rubens as two of his biggest personal influences, LeRoy Neiman describes his own work in the following way " A day at the races... A night at the opera... These two lines, I think, reflect the spirit of my work and my pleasures, of my art, prints and posters. In a sense, they capture the range of my environment. I have painted and sketched in casinos, hotels, bars, massage parlors, steam baths, in the salons of elegant restaurants (and sometimes their galleys), on battlefields and football fields, in law courts and tennis courts, in pool rooms and swimming pools, from the decks of luxury liners and yachts and the doorways of skid-row missions. To me, it's all Neimanland." Throughout the course of his distinguished career, LeRoy Neiman has been the recipient of countless awards and recognitions, including an Award of Merit from the American Athletic Union in 1976 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1986, among countless others. To date, more than 150,000 LeRoy Neiman prints have been purchased, having an estimated market value exceeding $400 million! LeRoy Neiman has certainly left his distinctive, incontrovertible mark on the art world and then some, and continues to do so to this day. Neiman currently lives in New York City with his wife of more than 50 years, Janet, at the Hotel des Artistes, which has been their home together for more than 30 years

Description: Harold marks was born in Tehran, Iran in 1952. Harold Marks legally known as Hershel Markovitch started painting at the age of 14 years old. He was encouraged in his progression by his parents and inspiring teachers throughout his early childhood. Later he studied art at the University of Jundi Shapur in Iran where he won awards for illustration. Originally, he began honing his craft as a portraitist before specializing in landscape painting. At the age of 15, his mother suddenly passed away. The loss greatly impacted his father, both emotionally and practically so his father chose to move the family to Hamburg, Germany and then onto to Avignon, France and finally settled in Sicily, Italy where Harold showed his art along with his friend Mario Cinnelli at one of the local galleries in town. He has shown his work in a few small galleries throughout Italy, US, and Tehran where he still has some family ties. Harold is inspired by Rembrandt and Matisse, and his paintings show his passion of nature and the ability to understand composition. Harold's job is capturing moments of time so people can visually be part of his life experiences. He used to work in restaurant jobs and save all his money so he could travel. Now he has found the ideal job by following his lens around the world. In his early days of getting work published, he was very secretive about naming such beautiful locations. His work has evolved dramatically over the years. Harold feels his life is more exciting than ever as he grows with his wife and two children Xander and Allegra.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Mark King describes his approach to painting as ninety percent preparation. â?oIt takes a great deal of time for meâ?¦ but once I begin, I work with great impetus, with immense bursts of energy. It is not until the last ten or fifteen minutes before completion that I am able to see where the painting is going and to catch the mood of the moment.â? Born in Bombay, India to British parents in 1931, Mark Kingâ?Ts childhood was one of exotic experience and privileged education. After graduating from La Martiniére College in Calcutta, the sixteen-year-old King sailed to England to attend Bournemouth College of Art. There he studied painting, sculpture, architecture and theatre design. Subsequently, he spent seven years as the resident scenic designer at the Oxford Playhouse Theatre. In 1961, he decided to concentrate on painting, and he moved to Paris, where he studied at the Ã?cole des Beaux-Arts and the Louvre. It was there that he developed his impressionistic style, influenced by the wealth of examples of European masters.

He has written 7 books and hosted several award winning PBS TV Art Series. He was recently listed as one of the nation's top 20 teachers by a leading Art magazine. He is represented by some of the nation's leading museums and art galleries. With his uniquely styled landscape paintings, he strives for a level of excitement, movement and resonance that seems to push somewhere beyond what the environment naturally provides. When considering subjects he tries to search for something striking; like the color of the sky, the direction of natural light, pattern of shadows, or the glint of sunlight on water. He then embellishes those striking features.**Retrieved from: http://www.tomlynch.com/biography.cfm
