Description: We proudly offer this next piece of original vintage Fenton Glass in the form of this stunning 1950s, Quoizel (NYC) contract Cranberry Opalescent Coin Dot font boudoir lamp, with a magnificent etched & flared Cranberry rimmed shade. Our scarce properly working lamp, features the fine brass joiner work and marble base which are classic Quoizel (see history below), and the spectacular floral etched shade is a wonderful rendition of the traditional ruffled shades of the 1880s. This is a scarce & valuable Fenton collectible for a ladies dressing table in VG condition & measuring 5.5 x 5.5 x 14.5" tall and weighing 3#. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. During the 1940s and 1950s, at the height of Fenton?s contract production, numerous custom mold items were produced for other large marketing & import companies, as well as a number of major department stores, and private decorating studios, in an effort to expand their overall sales into new markets. These molds were exclusive to the contracting companies, and showed subtle differences in form and or color from the standard Fenton catalog items. One major exception was a 20 year contract entered into with the Quoizel Lamp Co. ca. 1942. Fenton supplied standard (as well as custom) glass font & shades, which were assembled with brass by Quoizel, and finished in their Italian marble bases. Founded in 1930 in New York City, Quoizel Lighting began as a small marketing business with a limited product line. Expanding their horizons centered in part, around a contract signed with Fenton Art Glass during WW II, and lasting into the 1960s. The Fenton / Quoizel collaboration resulted in the manufacture of a myriad of student, and boudoir style lamps in virtually 100s of different patterns, and color schemes, with consistent defining features being polished brass joiner work, and their fine finished Italian marble bases. In 1964 Ira Phillips joined the company, and during the next 40 years he led Quoizel through extraordinary growth by expanding the product mix and providing innovative merchandising strategies to retailers. Phillips acquired full ownership in 1986, and in 1996 he relocated Quoizel's corporate headquarters to Charleston, SC, where it now operates from a state-of-the art, 500,000 square-foot facility. Today, Quoizel Lighting remains a privately held, family-owned and operated business offering more than 2,000 items in its full-line catalog. Quoizel Lighting has hundreds employees between 3 locations in South Carolina, New York and China, along with 2 distribution centers. Today, Quoizel Lighting is one of the nation's leading designers and distributors of decorative home lighting, and offers a diverse selection of timeless designs including one of the broadest selections of Tiffany style lighting available. Quoizel Lighting currently offers beautiful lighting solutions in hundreds of different styles, crafted from only the finest materials. FENTON 1950 CRANBERRY OPALESCENT HOBNAIL 3830 BASKET XJ

Lot 11: FENTON 1950 CRANBERRY OPALESCENT HOBNAIL 3830 BASKET XJ

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: We are exceptionally pleased to present this second largest of all the Fenton Art Glass Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail baskets, in the form of this spectacular #3830-CR crystal applied handle showpiece. Collectors will know that our 10 inch Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail basket w/ the Nicked (pinched) handle (please see history below), is one of the most sought after of all the Fenton large colored baskets, and currently lists in the $225-$275 range in mint condition as is ours! The first hobnail item made by Fenton Art Glass was in 1935, and constituted a French opalescent lamp font. 1936 to 1938 saw the first real production of hobnail pieces in the form of the first L.G. Wright contract Rare (6) part mold full size barber bottles, and examples with the abbreviated three ring necks, were sold to Wrigley of Chicago in 1938, along with puff boxes, all topped with wooden lids. Between 1938 & 1980, Hobnail patterns were collected with genuine fervor, with Fenton producing no less than 49 separate colors of hobnail glass, some supplied for decades and others for short stretches of years. Colors of glass and Scarcity provide a wide range of values, and collectors interest for Fenton hobnail items. *** A collector?s note: Other than the original (and subsequent decade designating) Fenton oval marks, which became endemic in 1974, the applied handles of Fenton glass provide a clue to their age. Any smooth, and generally rope twisted handles indicate a ca. 1960 to 1973 (if no logo) or later production. The special NICKED (pinched) handles are a dead giveaway, dating finished handled Fenton?s to between 1940 and 1959. Research consulted: Fenton Art Glass Patterns 1939 to 1980 2nd Ed., AND Fenton Art Glass Colors 1939 to 1980 / both by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer; The Big Book of Fenton Glass 1940 to 1970 AND Fenton Glass Compendium Volumes 1 to 3 (Published 1985 - 2001), AND Fenton Glass Rarities 1940 to 1985 / all by John Walk; Fenton Glass, Second & Third 25 Years / by William Heacock James Measell and Frank Fenton Weight : 2# 7 oz. KASHMIR CORNER HAND CARVED LINED WALNUT XT

Lot 14: KASHMIR CORNER HAND CARVED LINED WALNUT XT

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Offered for your consideration this Magnificently hand carved, walnut jewelry box , a true piece of art. Kashmir is home to some of the best walnut wood carving done anywhere in the world. The process of walnut wood carving is known as Dhun hath kaem (walnut wood work) or simply as Dhoon kaem (walnut work). The walnut wood carving of Kashmir employs a process of hand carving done very carefully and delicately in various styles depicting forms and motifs that have evolved over a period of centuries. The desired effect and craftsmanship is achieved by the master craftsman (wasta or naqash) through calculated measured strokes for chipping, carving and rounding of the surface. The Kashmiri walnut wood craftsman rejoices in carving intricate and varied designs based on lively natural forms. Kashmiri walnut wood carving is recognizable because of colour and tone of the material (walnut) and its combination with local craftsmanship depicting certain established motifs in a highly intricate and miniaturized form in the traditional established styles. Weight: 3# 4oz Measurements: 12.25" x 8" 3.25Kashmirr has an interesting history : The Kashmir dispute stems from 1947, when colonial British rulers partitioned the Indian subcontinent on sectarian basis into India and Pakistan. Unlike the partition of the Indian subcontinent, however, the Kashmir dispute was based on a political intrigue played by its maharajah and the leadership of new India. Due to their common Hindu religious ties, both these parties willfully agreed to allow Indian troops to occupy Kashmir without the consent of the Kashmiri people, majority of whom are Muslims. The purpose of this decision was to stop the incursion of armed Pakistani tribesman into Kashmir and avoid potential takeover by Pakistan. For over six decades, the Kashmir dispute has been running in place, with little hope for a peace settlement. Today, the Kashmir dispute remains the main obstacle to normalization of relations between India and Pakistan and to larger collaboration in South Asia. Since 1947, neither India nor Pakistan have had the audacity to admit that the Kashmir dispute is not one between India and Pakistan, but rather, it is the struggle of the Kashmiri people to attain freedom and dignity.

RARE VIKING GLASS 63 BLUENIQUE EPIC LOOP SWUNG VASE XT

Lot 15: RARE VIKING GLASS 63 BLUENIQUE EPIC LOOP SWUNG VASE XT

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: We are very pleased to present this Giant & Rare 1963 Viking Glass Epic Loop, form #1472 blown & swung vase in the exclusive Viking Bluenique color. Our example is a full 4 x 4 x 19" tall with the 4 pronged rim and weighs an impressive 2# 8 oz. The sculpted base Epic Loop pattern was so revolutionary, that it appeared on the cover of the 1963 Viking catalog, and our 19" giant is in wonderful condition. Research consulted: Viking Glass 1944-1970 / by Dean Six. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The highly capable, long term General manager of the New Martinsville Glass Works, Ira Clark passed in 1937, and in 1938 the plant was sold to interests from New England, associated with Silver City Glass Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The principles included Mr. R. M. Rice and Carl Schultz, with Harry Barth as General Manager and partner. Harry Barth left the firm in 1940, with Walter Clulo replacing him. By the middle of 1944, stockholders formed Viking Glass Company from the unprofitable firm, operating the plant until 1984. By the 1950?s, traditional European influenced crystal was replaced by vibrant colored glass, and the Viking glass Company was at the forefront of that trend. As an example, new colors for 1951 included, Evergreen, Amber, Ebony (black), Cobalt Blue, Sky Blue (colonial blue) and Ruby. Viking catalogs became the number 1 advertising medium, and by the 1960?s the variety included many large swung styles of vase. Examples of major changes included Flowerlites to Glimmer formulas in the early 1970?s, and from solid colors to Pastels of the 1980?s. Despite the colorful diversity, by the mid 80?s hard times had hit America and Viking was not immune. The Viking Glass Company as we knew it closed in 1984. Dalzell/Viking was immediately opened by Kenneth Dalzell, a former executive from Fostoria Glass Company. The company managed to survive for 15 years, closing its doors forever in 1998. We are grateful to both Mr. Phil Butts, The Antiquarian for his fine website data, and to Mr. Dean Six for his classic reference, Viking Glass 1944-1970.

SCHLEGELMILCH PROV SAXE TILLOWITZ HP CHARGER NAPPY XJ

Lot 17: SCHLEGELMILCH PROV SAXE TILLOWITZ HP CHARGER NAPPY XJ

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: We are exceptionally proud to showcase this gorgeous pair German hand painted Schlegelmilch porcelain pieces from the 1920s and 1930s. The first is a spectacular hand painted RS Tillowitz Cala Lily 11 x 11 x 1.25" charger featuring Caper's single long ribbon wreath blue mark, #RS 4.12B 2 w/ Silesia, found on Page #172, and dated between 1925 and 1945. Our charged dates to pre 1940. The second outstanding piece is a brilliant raised wall finger hole candy / nut nappy featuring gorgeous tea roses and white apple blossom Prunus. The base carries the Caper's #ES I.IG 5 Germany ellipse, found on Pages #83 &84, and dated to between 1900 and 1930, with the nappy dating in the 1910-1920 era. This specific mark was actually registered in Germany on May 16, 1902 (as TM #54 161). The Erdmann Schlegelmilch (Suhl), E S & PROV SAXE marks may not quite have the fame of the RS Prussia Red Wreath & Star mark, but there is no question that the E S porcelain was outstanding in its quality, and the innovative mold forms were definitely worthy competition to Reinhold Schlegelmilch?s factories in the period between 1890 and 1920. The lot weighs 2# and both pieces are in excellent condition. Both the charger and nappy book well in excess of $200! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The RS Prussia Wreath & Star mark is derived from its founder, Reinhold Schlegelmilch, and was later used by his sons Erhard and Arnold, after his passing. The history of RS Prussia Porcelain dates back to 1869, with the opening of the Reinhold Schlegelmilch Porcelain factory in Tillowitz, Silesia, Germany, as well as a smaller facility & decorating studio in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany. These two Reinhold facilities produced the finest and most innovative hard paste Art Nouveau porcelain in the world from the end of the Victorian era ca. 1892 up until the beginning of World War I. During the early part of this period, most of the pieces exported to the United States sported the ca. 1895 RS Steeple marks that were augmented in 1903 / 1904 by the red and green aforementioned Wreath & Star signature. However, history records that this mark only proliferated from the early 1900s to 1914. In 1910, Reinhold?s Tillowitz factory reputedly changed exclusively to the Green RS Germany Wreath & Star (and after 1918, added other colors as well), with Tillowitz surviving beyond 1915, the point at which the Suhl factory was forced to close forever, a causality of WW I. Both RS Steeple & RS Prussia marks paralleled the RS Germany Wreath & Star, and are recorded until 1914 / 1915. The RS Germany mark from the Tillowitz factory was seen until its last documented use in 1938. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Erdmann Schlegelmilch's legacy was the other Suhl Porzellanfabrik, which was founded by Leonard Schlegelmilch (1823 to 1898) and named in honor of his father Erdmann Schlegelmilch (1782 to 1844). The factory was inherited by son Julius upon his father?s passing, and operated until ca. 1937, this factory marking its wares R.S. Suhl from 1900 until about 1917, as well as the familiar Prov Saxe (1902-1930), Beehive (Bindenschild) with dot, and crown marks with Royal Saxe + Germany, used from 1927 to 1937. Furthermore, Leonard?s son Carl (brother to Julius, 1855 to 1920) founded his own porcelain works in Mabendorf from 1883 to 1918, working in close consort with the larger Suhl operation.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: We are extremely proud to present this Rare 1918-1923 Bavarian hand decorated Melon Eaters portrait, porcelain serving dish from the fabled Carl Schumann of Arzberg, Germany. This incredible 8.5" x 10.5" (w/ handles) server is perfect for candy or nuts, and features the most beautiful Ormolu beaded & reticulated rim banding that we have ever seen on a piece this size. The edge contains a gorgeous set of 6 bezel faceted stones with 2 in emerald green, 2 in deep Amethyst, and 2 in topaz blue. Our excellent condition treasure carries a 1918-1929 era Schumann blue under glaze stamp, BUT dates in the first half of the period, as it sports the early flat crown lion shield mark, in lieu of the domed crowns seen in the latter 1920's. The ormolu is even accented with a stunning hand gilded Fleur de Lis lappet, inner roundel, adding to the rarity and beauty of this server. ***COLLECTOR'S NOTE: Carl Schumann porcelain is first quality, and many of the factory decorated floral pieces carry the Dresden label, as Dresden is a scant 100 miles from Arzberg. Research consulted: Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present / by Robert Rontgen; Directory of European Porcelain / by Ludwig Danckert; Bohemian Decorated Porcelain / by Dr. James D Henderson; Marks & Monograms on European and Oriental Pottery & Porcelain (14th Revised Edition) / by Wm. Chaffers. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Originally from Angelroda (Thuringia) Christian Heinrich Schumann (1822, to 1884) had a small pottery in Arzberg that had to close because it was in the way of the railway which was finalized in November 1879 and connected Arzberg with the railway network. Together with businessman Riess as financial backer, Christian Heinrich Schumann founded his new porcelain-orientated factory directly under the Jakobsburg castle, next to the market square in the town center and ironically directly next to the railway tracks responsible for the closure of his previous business. From the four children Christian Heinrich Schumann and his wife Christiana (1838, to 1928) had, only three made an impression on the further company history. Only the youngest child with the name of Carl (1871 to 1926) was really interested in the factory and business proceedings while the older son Christoph (1864 to 1916) helped out now and then but often started endless discussions on how a factory should be run. Third son Eduard on the other hand kept out of the way and rather concentrated on his studies. In such a situation it was only understandable that shortly before Christian Heinrich Schumann passed away in 1884 he stated that Carl should inherit the factory as he not only showed most interest but had also more than once impressed his father with technical knowledge and the ability to quickly adapt to various situations. However Carl was not old enough to officially take over business when his father died and so the company was run by his mother Christiana. The factory was renamed on the 21st birthday of Carl Schumann I, however his mother still remained in charge until she stepped down in 1896 when Carl married. Business steadily increased and so Carl as porcelain specialist together with his brother Eduard as manager launched a second business in 1904, the Westdeutsche Porzellanfabrik Duisdorf G.m.b.H. in Duisdorf near Bonn (North-Rhine Westphalia). Christoph Schumann had previously married into the wealthy land owner?s family Schreider in the town of Schwarzenhammer and in 1905 together with his father-in-law Karl August Schreider founded the Porzellanfabrik Schumann & Schreider there. Years passed and business steadily increased, allowing the company to build a library and a canteen for their workers next to providing cheap housing for employees that originally had lived further away. Due to his social engagement Carl Schumann I eventually became privy councilor in Arzberg and his two sons Heinrich and Carl Schumann II were frequently seen in the factory, greedily absorbing knowledge. On July 19th 1923 the company was transformed into a corporation and all seemed fine, but three years later Carl Schumann I passed at the age of only 55. He was succeeded by his son Carl Schumann II who at the time had been studying in America and later founded the 'Schumann China Corporation of New York' which distributed Schumann products in the U.S. up until the late 1920's. The factory was run by his brother Heinrich during his absence. While the new market in the U.S. at first seemed very promising, the world financial crisis which started in New York on October 25th, 1929 put a dramatic end to nearly all Schumann export efforts. But the 'home front' was not much better and the relatively short-lived business in Duisdorf which had specialized on 'Zwiebelmuster' (Blue Onion) and 'Strohblume' (Strawflower) decorated items remained in family hands only until 1935 before it was sold due to economic reasons. Weight: 1# Measurement: 10.5 x 8.5 x 1.75

In 1830, Elias Ingraham, now a noted clock casemaker, began working for Chauncey and Lawson C. Ives. He made over five thousand clock cases for them over the next three years. As a group, Ingraham clocks, and especially the clocks made under a label bearing the Ingraham name up until 1885, refer to clocks made by several different companies. The firm of Brewster and Ingrahams clock company was formed in 1844 and operated until July 24, 1852. During this time Elias designed the Gothic clock case, with four columns. The E. and A. Ingrahams Company was then started and ran from 1852 to 1856; and then Elias Ingraham and Company from 1857 to 1860. Then from 1861 to 1880 the name E. Ingraham & Company was used. from 1881 to 1884, the company was know as The E. Ingraham & Company. Finally in 1885 it was incorporated as The E. Ingraham Company. This well-documented history and short time periods for each company make it easy to date the early Ingraham clocks based upon the label. Research Consulted: Discoverclocks.com

It is important to note that his clothing and body have been designed to look aged. By Doll artist, Carol Manning, sculpted head, along with the initials C.M.4 pounds 17 inches ............. NEVER HEARD OF ARNETT'S COUNRY STORE THAN READ ON ......... A West Frankfort local store, while catering to the residents of West Frankfort and its surrounding areas, has also made a name for itself among some of Hollywood?s most well-known celebrities. Arnett?s Country Store, has become well known in Hollywood circles for its production of custom and special- order dolls. Dolls from Arnett?s have been sold through upscale distributors in New York?s famed Hamptons and outlets in Maryland to such celebrities as Barbara Streisand, Sidney Poitier and Timothy Hutton. According to Stacee Droit, Streisand is the proud owner of a custom doll manufactured at Arnett?s, while Hutton boasts an Arnett?s wood resin doll. Poitier?s wife purchased a doll manufactured at Arnett?s for one of the couple?s daughters, according to the owner Droit. The doll ultimately became so popular in the Poitier household that she had to return to purchase the exact same doll for her other daughter. Unfortunately, the initial doll was ?retired?, but Droit was happy to produce a similar one to accommodate the Poitiers. Another of Droit?s dolls made a cameo appearance in the 1998 Oprah Winfrey film ?Beloved?, hanging on the wall in the background during a pivotal scene in the film. Droit?s father, Maynard Arnett, was a coal miner, and her mother was heavily involved in crafts, producing countless items for local craft fairs and church bazaars. Droit began working in her parent?s store at a young age and has remained there ever since. ?Crafts are all I've ever done,? Droit told the Daily American. ?It?s all I know.? Visitors to Arnett?s will no doubt notice the unique architecture of the store itself. Constructed in 1907, the structure was originally a manager?s residence for a nearby mine, before it was purchased by the Pure Milk Dairy Company a few decades later. The Droit?s home, too, is something of an architectural rarity, and was featured in the January 2004 edition of Country Living magazine

This exact shaker can be found on Page #28, Photo #2, items 3 & 4 of Wave Crest The Glass Of C.F. Monroe / by Wilfred Cohen. The current book on this remarkable shaker is $75+, and this Wave Crest treasure stands 1.5 x 1.5 x 3" tall and weighs 4 oz. Research consulted: Wave Crest: The Glass of C.F. Monroe / by Wilfred R. Cohen; Mt. Washington & Pairpoint Glass (Vol. One) / by Kenneth M. Wilson, AND, Mt. Washington & Pairpoint Glass (Vol. Two) / by Kenneth M. Wilson & Jane Shadel Spillman; The World of Salt Shakers Volumes 1 ? 3 / by Mildred & Ralph Lechner. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. In 1877, Charles F. Monroe was hired as a decorator by the Meriden Flint Glass Co. He showed such promise and imagination, that he was frequently sent abroad to study new designs and techniques of European glass manufacturers. Having developed an exceptional sense of style, C.F. Monroe opened his first shop in Meriden, CT. in 1880, located at 36 West Main Street, operating initially in the format of a European glass importer. Shortly thereafter in 1882, he began his decorating studio, and by 1885 had opened an art academy also in Meriden, that became the C.F. Monroe opal glass decorating works in 1886. The C.F. Monroe Co. was formally incorporated in 1892, and introduced the Wave Crest line that was patented on Oct. 4, of that same year. Using primarily the highly stylized original glass forms from Mt. Washington / Pairpoint Glass, the Monroe decorations became some of the most beloved creations of the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras. When the 1890?s arrived and the demand for finely decorated glass was its height, the Monroe company was located in several large buildings on the corner of West Main Street and Capitol Avenue, and employed such fine artists as Carl V. Helmschmied (the Helmschmied swirl pattern was designed and patented by C.F. Monroe Co. during Carl?s employ), Walter Nilson, J.J. Knoblauch, Joseph Hickish, Carl Puffee, Flora Fiest, Gustave Reinman, Florence Knoblauch, Emil Melchior, and Alma Wenk, Blanche Duval, Gussie Stremlan, Elizabeth Zeibart, and Elizabeth Casey. The financial details are not entirely clear, however by the start of WW I, external pressures were taking a major toll on C.F. Monroe. Consequently, the glass decorating works only survived until 1916, when inexplicably, Monroe took a lesser position as the glass foreman for Edward Miller & Co. Glass Works of Meriden. Stranger yet, C.F. Monroe soon relinquished the position at E. Miller & Co., subsequently moving to New Hampshire in 1919, C.F. Monroe passed away quietly on Nov. 19, 1919 at his home in Meriden, and was buried in the Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, R.I.

This is the 2nd generation chair immediately after rope edge but still retaining the large, hockey puck shock mounts and thicker shell and edges of the 1st generation chairs. Obtained from a collector with an extensive mid century modern collection ................ Herman Miller was founded by D. J. De Pree, who bought the Michigan Star Furniture Company in 1923 with his father-in-law, Herman Miller, and a small group of local businessmen. The company was located in Zeeland, a town in western Michigan near the city of Grand Rapids. Settled primarily by Dutch immigrants, many of whom handed down a legacy of skill in crafting fine furniture, the company over the decades changed in many different directions but bringing it into the 1950's. Herman Miller's sales had increased to $1.7 million. That year the company initiated the Scanlon management plan. Named after its inventor, a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the plan was based on the idea that employees could serve as a valuable source of ideas for operations and cost effectiveness and should therefore be called on to participate in management decisions. The plan called for team organization and provided employees with various incentives, including financial rewards for productivity gains. Revolutionary at the time, the plan proved successful for Herman Miller and has since been adopted by several other major companies. Tagged $399.00 - Weight: 12# Measurements: 25 X 23 X 30.75

The C.F. Monroe Co. did not manufacture its own glass; rather, it bought its blanks, undecorated glass, from France, Mt. Washington-Pairpoint and other American glass houses such as Rodefer Glass Co. of Bel Air, Ohio. The National Glass Manufacturing Company operated the plant in Bellaire, Ohio from 1870 until 1877, when it was purchased by three brothers from Shadyside; Albert, John, and Thornton Rodefer. They operated the factory as Rodefer Brothers until 1898 when Thornton, became the sole owner. Upon his death in 1910, his son C. M. Rodefer assumed ownership, and was joined by Thornton Rodefer grandson Howard, and by 1913 the company name had become officially The Rodefer Glass Co., and this stayed consistent until becoming the Rodefer-Gleason Glass Company in 1953. Through its 105 years of existence, Rodefer specialized in both hand-blown & sculpted hand formed glass for other manufacturers. In the early years (1890-1910) opal glass blanks were sent to Meriden, Connecticut where C. F. Monroe?s factory decorated the beautiful Wave Crest, Nakara, and Kelva vases, plaques, and boxes which are now treasured by antique collectors. The Rodefer trademark on vases & table accessories was the extended relief / blown out Rococo patterns & accents which differentiated them between Mt. Washington, Handel, Carl Helmschmied?s Bell Ware, and Keystone Ware.
