Description: A Roman orange terracotta discus lamp, North Africa, c. 4th-5th Century AD, with a large Chi-Rho (a Christogram) depicted in the discus, L: 3 3/5 in (9.2cm), D: 3 in (7.2cm). The shoulder is decorated with small impressed lines and circles. Though the nozzle is lost, we can see that a channel would have run between the disc and nozzle, edged by ridges. There is a maker's mark on the underside in the form of a Silphium seed. The seed takes the form of the traditional heart shape and was used in antiquity as a seasoning and medicine. Silphium was also an important trade item for the North African city of Cyrene, which may place this lamp as being made in the city of Cyrene. Ex English private collection.

Description: A lot of 3 Indian terracotta molds, 1st-3rd Century AD. The first, a mold of the right side of an animal body, likely a cat or dog, L: 6 1/10 in (15.5cm), with a clay representation. The second, a mold of the back half of scaled fish, L: 5 ½ in (14.1cm), H: 3 2/3 in (9.2cm). The third, difficult to make out, but appearing to be for a small human figure, H: 3 1/8 in (8cm). Description: A choice Sassanian seal, c. 224 - 651 AD. It is 1 1/8 in (2.9cm) in diameter and depicts a superbly detailed warrior armed with shield and sword. A decapitated human head is seen in front of him and a lion's head behind him. Carved from beautiful translucent carnelian and perforated vertically for suspension.
