Additional Comments, December 3, 2012: Our understanding is that a parfleche is a folding container. This is a tapered cylindrical case, originally round, but now somewhat flattened. The disk at the bottom is not painted. The rawhide is fairly stiff but not brittle. The fringe is tanned leather. There are a few short strands, but otherwise the fringe appears to be intact. Some of the pigments are water based, but there are areas that have been repainted with oil-based paints.
