Hilde DeBruyne - Hope

Description: Hilde DeBruyne possesses the innate ability to transform clay into timeless works of art. The daughter of sculptor Paul DeBruyne, her childhood home was a museum of artifacts spanning the globe from African masks to remnants of Gothic cathedrals. And so she developed her love for meaningful and beautiful things. She studied Art History and Archeology at the University of Ghent. It became her passion. Her rather abstract works reflect nature and the authenticity of the cycle of life. Fragments of the feminine form emerge inspired by the simple and organic features of rock formations, pebbles, and weathered wood. The essence of her work is felt in the touch and texture.

Thierry Lancelot - help_me_obiwan_kenobi2(bis)

Description: Thierry Lancelot is an artist who works primarily with ceramics to create unique narrative pieces. He works with both mass-market and antique found porcelain figurines, cutting up and or adding gold or sterling silver elements to them and repainting them, to create sculptures which depicts the male and female figure caught in sexual poses. But the sexual representation is not the main focus of the works. Indeed commonly known stereotypes of mass production in art, sexual representation of the puritan society or ironic and satirical portraits are representing in a format who's underlying meaning is all about the increase of the emotional response of the beholder.

Christian De Wulf - derailed 49 49

Description: On recent works one canvas hides another. Depths and heights are covered up but seem to be bubbling under and to mold the upper surface. These paintings should be read as mind maps loaded with meaning and emotion. Emotion wins over ratio. What at first seems to be geometrical dissolves into an abstract lyricism. The painting becomes a sculpture. Each painting is a link in a chain, is a different point of view to look at the theme. They all get their own name in the form of a sentence. Most of these sentences suggest a longing for communication, for understanding. They become a gate, a key with which the beholder can enter this abstract world. So the work of art not only becomes a metaphor for the meeting between surface and structure, between light and shadow, tranquility and unrest, but it finds its ultimate mirror in the intimate communication between artist and beholder. A closed circle of human understanding and empathy is created.

Kaliya Kalacheva - Based on a true story

Description: Artist statement: I'm an architect by soul and painter by nature. Attached to both lines and colours, I like being the immediate participant, a voyeur to every landscape, story or idea. Always travelling literally and physically always in search of something. The most creative condition is losing myself or, rather, not finding myself – the constant state of being in quest of something. When questions arise there are conflicts, there is unease. By asking a lot of questions ideas are born, answers come and other conditions emerge with which I could experiment once again willingly or not. The more I get further away, the more I get closer to unknown sides of my own abilities.

Bruno D'ALIMONTE - Leaving Car

Description: "Bruno D’ALIMONTE is of Italian origin, though he was born and currently resides in Brussels, Belgium. His intimate photographic work pays a tribute to fragility through an ongoing indecisiveness that reflects chaos surrounded by chimeras. His latest work is the fruit of an unstable but necessary choice depicting a pictorial and metaphoric tension in the narrative. This timeless imagery of his originates from the association of toy lenses with his Mediterranean eye. The images he creates are undefined and vague; they play with the narrative codes of everyday images yet are deeply intertwined with the ineffable. The world he shows us through his lens is poetically puzzling, it reflects our evanescence beyond any form of vanity. Bruno D’Alimonte lives and works in Brussels. His photographic predilection is for social and urban notions that he likes to phase with the passing of time. He is also known for the portrait photography he does for the Belgian press area"

Description: Artist Statement: "My work is based around the exploration of different characters and the physical landscape around them. I construct intertwined reflections of each with the use of creative editorial photography and intricate image editing techniques. I see creating and experiencing art as a way to enhance the human experience. As we create, we reveal so much about our lives, our loves, our hopes, our dreams, our fears, the things that indeed make us human. I have always tried to understand the implications of certain events in my life and through creative expression I am able to reflect upon experiences with clearer vision."

Pedro Correa - Attraction

Description: Artist statement: Clearly influenced by my impressionistic painting background, my style was born by injecting the emotions of impressionism into the "decisive moment" of photography. In other words: shooting with one eye of an impressionistic painter and one eye of an urban image hunter. Further to that idea, I never modify elements of a picture, merge different images or ask people to pose. There is in my opinion no need to force beauty, it is already out there. All my pictures are love songs to the city. Not any particular one, but rather the universal idea of a city. Photos that depict the mix of various cultures, people bumping into each other, colours, energy, things happening on every corner... My migration, my search, my work, and my eye have evolved beyond the surface and have moved to works aimed at the spirit of the global, nameless, and placeless city. It's my perception of the city that I want to show, the feeling rather than an actual picture.

Yambe Tam - A further Sea III

Description: Artist statement: "My paintings weave together the systems of science, philosophy, and religion to create graphic, abstract paintings that reflect on the relationship between man and the natural world. Drawing on my research of the Anthropocene, physical and metaphysical cosmology, and Medieval-era Europe and Japan, I blur historical timelines and cultural origins to evoke sublime infinite spaces (deep space, skies, and seas), but which are actually no-places that exist between abstraction and reality, theory and truth. These paintings, typically created with oil or gouache and gold leaf, fuse seemingly oppositional forces: chance and control, luminosity and darkness, minimalism and decadence."

Alex Voinea - av_347

Description: Alex's work is composed of large brushstrokes, both striking and strident, loosely swept over the canvas, creating a sense of movement and laden with saturated colours. The artist seeks to evoke the fluidity of painting captured in a moment in time. His inspiration is based in experiments with liquid paint over vibrating surfaces, such as speakers, which create a dance of colours and textures. Artist statement: "While I always wanted to be an artist, I was born in a place and time that was oppressive and dark. After participating in the revolution which overthrew the dictatorship, I found a way to leave Romania and discovered a new world where I had the freedom to express myself and to let loose the images that had always been in my head. I discovered great artists that inspired me and my work transformed from grey to vibrant colours that dance on the canvas. I now play with painting and imaginary explosions of colour which I try to capture first in my mind and later on the canvas. Painting this way is intense; it creates a synergy between the artist and the work."

Gerard Escougnou - Eos

Description: French painter Gerard Escougnou has devoted himself over the last years to his deeper passion: abstract painting. Giving himself body and soul to this artistic quest, he has proudly incarnated his role as a self-taught creator, shaking o stirring academic convention and clichés. His vigorous and instinctive gesture, punctuated by splashes of colour, is nourished by the influence of the New York School in particular, and by abstract expressionism in general, unquestionably reflecting an unbridled search for liberty and intensity. His works reflect ample, spontaneous movements. They emanate a great vitality and brute force, evoking the very personality of the painter. After the ferocious arabesques of his beginnings, we discover more structured compositions, with festive colours and a geometrical approach.

Beddru - Joined Beauty

Description: Italian self-thought painter, Bedd has distinguished himself in contributing conceptual insight to the course of contemporary art by embracing experimentation of non-traditional materials, such as thick superposed plexiglas-panels. His figurative pictorial subjects are “uncomfortably” represented through ink-based mixed media, applied via reverse painting technique, inspired by Italian painters from the 1600s. By developing a variation of this technique, Beddru focuses on the use of vivid pigments to create a striking vibrancy as a distinctive trait of his style. The eye of the observer is simultaneously caught by both a fascinating chromatic balance and the mystery of enigmatic figures, who from the depths of a mythological past, bring secretive symbols to our contemporary present as messages to decipher.

Alix Philippe - Rome

Description: Alix Philippe is a Belgian artist who studied comics at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels and regularly attended the Fine Art Academy of Boitsfort in Brussels. She is currently working and living in London and produces mainly studied paintings with acrylic on canvas and wood. Her initial inspiration comes from characters and places found in her daily life and travels, movies and photographic studies. Her compositions give an impression of melancholy and the past, but are also influenced by other painters such as Michael Borremans, Edward Hopper as well as the 17th Century Dutch genre painting. She often depicts isolated people that seem withdrawn from daily routines, immersed in their own activities. And while she captures a moment, an emotion and the intimacy of characters, the viewers are lured into a story.
