Description: Takanot HaChevrah Mishkenot Yisrael was changed to the name Mazkeret Moshe to glorify the name and as an eternal remembrance of the prince and tzaddik Moshe Montefiore Berent. Jerusalem, [1882].10, 6 leaves. 18 cm. in the introduction it says that the committee bought 44 houses, but the money in the hands of the committee and the buyers was not enough to pay for them. The Moshe Montefiore fund in London sold them a piece of land bordering theirs at cost price and loaned them money to build eighty houses according to all the conditions outlined in this booklet. The format of the agreement is given here in Hebrew and in English and the signatures of the representatives of the committee and the representatives of Montefiore are printed here. They signed on the 15th of Kislev, the 18th of January, 1882. 6 leaves. English style. On page 10 of this booklet is the hand-written name of the original author whose name the rights are registered in, the name of the person who bought it from him, and afterwards the name of the purchaser who sold it all back to the committee, with the signature of the committee confirming it. Description: Broadside from the month of Tevet [end of 1927] opposing the 'Chukat HaKehilot' of the British Mandate, which stated that all Jews in Palestine were automatically part of the 'Non - religious and Zionist Jewish National Council, who throw off the yoke of Torah and mitzvos, all Jews of Palestine are subject to their decisions and rules and must pay it taxes'. The poster calls for a day of prayer on Sunday, 8th of Tevet, 1927, with shofar blowing at the Western Wall and in all synagogues to annul the decree. Signed by 35 prominent Ashkenazic and 18 prominent Sephardic Rabbis. For instance: there are 300,000 charity boxes distributed throughout Poland to benefit the poor of Eretz Yisrael. 'If only 50 groszy are placed in each box a month, there should still be income of 30,000 pounds. Fine condition.James Finn [1806-1872] was British Consul in Jerusalem in the 19th century. He helped Jews settle in Palestine. He wrote about Jewish history, was familiar with Hebrew, and even published a book describing the conditions in the Jewish yishuv in the country.Finn served as British Consul from 1845-1863. Though he was Christian, he was very interested in Jewish history. In the framework of his role as consul, he was supposed to assist Jews with British citizenship; however, he broadened his activities to benefit all Jews. He defended the Jews before the Turkish government, and tried to help the pioneering Jewish communities in the land (even before the first aliya). He established a number of agricultural farms in the country, primarily around Jerusalem, to promote the economic situation in the area. The most noted of his farms was 'Kerem Avraham'. It developed into a neighborhood and was eventually included in the city itself.
