River Roper by Norm Clasen

Lot 13S: River Roper by Norm Clasen

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: River Roper by Norm Clasen - Edition Size: 75 - Giclee on Canvas - Grande Edition Dimensions: 36 x 65 Release Date: 9-2009 ???.It?s said that one picture is worth a thousand words?.this is an apt description for every image shot by famed photographer Norm Clasen. As a free-lance photographer, Clasen has traveled the globe recording man, nature, and the world around us. With a very successful career spanning four decades, the photographer-artist is passionate about his work. Clasen?s images have been featured in numerous magazines in this country, as well as in European publications. One the most exciting periods in his career was being chosen as a photographer for the world-famous "Marlboro Man? advertising campaign for twelve years, considered to be one of the most recognizable images of all time. As a result of Clasen working with many ranchers and becoming friends with them while shooting the Marlboro images, the artist began his love affair with the iconic West. The artist?s interests began focusing on the magnificent horses that roam the ranches and plains. Marveling at their sheer power, grace, and beauty, Clasen attempts to capture the magic of the animals when in full flight as the dust swirls around them and their manes float through the air. Few landscapes are too challenging for Clasen ? filming in dust, rain or snow and pushing light to its limit have resulted in this photographer-artist creating some of his most memorable and dramatic images. Clasen?s work usually reflects natural elements as the main focus using 35mm equipment in either film or digital formats. In some cases, he enhances the photographs to create an artistic aura, taking on a painting-like feeling, but maintaining their photographic quality. Always striving to reflect the timeless nature of the West, Clasen produces photographs that are at-once classic, but created with modern technology, and yet evoking softer, grainy images that appear to echo from the past. Clasen refers to this aspect of his work as "artography? and believes it is a new and evolving genre for the art market. Norm and his wife, Laura, reside on a ranch in Colorado with horses and Max the Wonderdog. With a magnificent landscape to call home, the photographer and his wife are forever grateful to be surrounded with the ever-changing beauty of nature. Join Norm Clasen as he records a world that never disappoints and offers a new vista at every turn.

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Wild and Rugged by Bill Anton - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Paper - Artist Proof Dimensions: 16 x 24 Release Date: 6-2010 ???.Bill Anton was born in Chicago in 1957 and later moved to Prescott, Arizona. He graduated from Northern Arizona University. Later, after committing to painting full-time, he studied under Michael Lynch and Ned Jacob, who encouraged him to paint from life. ?While the nature of my work necessitates much studio time, more and more of my painting is done outside.? Anton?s work has been published in Southwest Art, Architectural Digest, Art of the West, Equine Images, Western Horseman and Art-Talk. Corporate collections that include his work are Sears, Dupont, State Farm Insurance, Bank of America, Hewlett Packard, and Trust Company of the West. His award winning work has been displayed at the Prix de West at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Masters of the American West at The Autry Museum, The National Center for American Western Art, the Old West Museum, and The National Museum of Wildlife Art. In addition, his work is in the permanent collection of the prestigious Gilcrease Museum. ?I do not see myself as a biographer of the cowboy. I know some artists feel they are recording history on the ranches as life there is today, but the focus of my work has always been mood and passion. If I?m recording anything, I?m recording how I feel about the west. I want the viewer to feel the drama of atmosphere and the mystery of a western night. I want the volume and portent of a cloud to be evident in the calligraphy of a brushstroke. The pack of muscle below a horse?s shoulder should be energized by a gestural application of paint. ?You see, I love to paint. And I love the American west. I was born in Chicago, but the Sierra Nevada, Sangre de Cristo, Sawatch and a hundred other ranges of our rocky mountains were the only ?Big Shoulders? I was ever interested in. Walking thunderstorms, sunstruck cedars, rimrock and artfully abstract water patterns charge the landscape with impossible beauty. ?Amidst this nobility is its caretaker: the rancher. With the natural ease of generations bred to the saddle, he is a powerful image further ennobled by a fine horse. An artist under the spell of the west has the privilege of marshalling the virtues of landscape, figure andequine painting into one supremely paintable subject: the American cowboy.? - Bill Anton

She layers several thin coatings of transparent color on her chosen surface, a technique that requires much accuracy and skill. In this way, she achieves a strong illumination of the painting from deep within. She then uses fiery colors and unambiguous contours to convey a joyous atmosphere, with an ethnic-mythological flavor. The vocabulary of her palette is also characteristic of her realistic composition. It is light and rhythmic with romantic images making music, dancing or otherwise relating. The abstract landscape is but a background for the all-important dialogue of the delicate and elegant figures. Myatlov?s style symbolizes her realistic view of the world and its people.Esther Myatlov was born in Russia in 1976, where she graduated the ?School of Fine Arts? in her hometown. In 1995, she immigrated to Israel where she continued her art studies at the ?Avni Institute of Art? in Tel Aviv. During her studies, she experimented with classical Russian art and with contemporary Israeli art and fused them together to create her unique style. Among others, she has been influenced by the notable French painter Ona. She also mastered the art of animation and she has created numerous animated video clips for rock bands.Myatlov?s artwork is exhibited in many private collections in the United States, Russia and Israel. Her large murals are to be found in several public buildings in Israel, and her solo exhibitions have had considerable success with the public and the media.

A Stroll in the Park by Christa Kieffer

Lot 35S: A Stroll in the Park by Christa Kieffer

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: A Stroll in the Park by Christa Kieffer - Edition Size: 495 - Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 22 x 28 Release Date: 9-1999 ???.Christa Kieffer was born in Tubingen, Germany. As a child, her earliest memories are of ?soaking up the atmosphere of a particular place or region.? An intuitive kindergarten teacher recognized Kieffer?s potential and provided her with a quiet place to draw and paint. The artist studied extensively throughout Europe then moved to the United States to attend the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Keiffer often used glazes to create a luminous look and feel to her paintings. She is motivated by her perception of the excitement of community in its entire splendor and believes that this experience was most expressive during the Belle Epoque era in France. Ms. Kieffer traveled to Paris frequently, always rising in the early hours of dawn to walk the boulevards and photograph the enchantment of a city cloaked in the mystery and memories of a glorious past. ?My paintings are mostly about the ?City as Playground? at a point in time when there seemed to be the perfect balance of excitement and leisure, movement and tranquility, small pleasures in the midst of architectural splendor. The streets and thoroughfares offered the joy of movement and variety to be viewed from an elegant sidewalk café of a stroll down the avenue. Here was the human spectacle in all it exuberance and, yet, the safety of community. ?I chose to paint this more gracious time mostly at dusk, the ?magic hour,? that span of mellow time between a perfect spring or summer day and the excitement of the coming cosmopolitan nightlife. To me, the transition of light is especially appealing. I get great pleasure out of capturing the effects and juxtaposition of natural and man-made light in an atmosphere of cultural layering.? Ms. Kieffer lived for many years in California in a small community surrounded by Point Reyes National Park. She passed away after a lingering illness in 2004.

Boss Lady by June Dudley

Lot 38S: Boss Lady by June Dudley

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Boss Lady by June Dudley - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Open Edition Dimensions: 22.5 x 15 Release Date: 9-2011 ???.June Dudley grew up in the country near the small town of Iola, Texas, in an area known locally as the river bottom, a place where she has cherished memories of family and rural values?.where the Western attitude and ranching were lived everyday. Cowboy lore was not just stories for the artist, but everyday life for her family. Her father worked cattle, and it was not unusual for Dudley and her sister to ride horses all day working as "cowhands? on the range. A love of the land comes naturally, and today she owns the ranch that has been in her family for over 100 years and is recognized by the State of Texas. Dudley cherishes the times she worked with her father on the ranch, which also gave her an appreciation of the Western way of life. Dudley began painting at the early age of around eight. With no canvases to be had at the time, the budding artist used cardboard. Her earliest inspiration came from visits with an aunt who painted. The little artist was fascinated by the brushes and paints displayed in her aunt?s home and longed for her own. When her wish was granted, it was a dream-come-true for the little girl who knew she would one day become an artist. As a student of the late, great Western landscape painter, Bob Wygant, Dudley so admires his style and considers him to be the major influence in her love of painting the Western way of life. The artist continually photographs and sketches her subject matter and paints in acrylics. Weather permitting, Dudley delights in plein air painting; however, she creates most of her works in her home studio that affords a great north light. Painting the world she has always known, Dudley says, "I guess I paint what I am.? With a combination of impressionism and realism, the artist?s favorite subjects have become landscapes. Using a colorful palette that brings the viewer into her scenes, Dudley also favors figurative pieces that often include her grandchildren, other family members, and close friends. Garden scenes are prominent in her works having observed her mother grow beautiful flowers for as long as she can remember. Dudley?s works are represented by various galleries in Texas, among them The Midland Gallery in Midland, the Fredericksburg Art Gallery in Fredericksburg, and the L Bar Gallery in Kerrville. The artist has exhibited at shows across the nation in Houston, at the Peppertree Show in California, the Mountain Oyster Show, the Best of the West in Arizona, and at the Governor?s Invitational for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Dudley?s work has been featured in various publications such as Art of the West and Country Lifestyle magazines, and several newspapers. Dudley?s image, "Boss Lady,? was the cover art for the 2007 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo School Art Program Awards Presentation booklet. Come to the country and enjoy the people and places that are dear to this rancher?s daughter ? Dudley captures her Texas family legacy with images that come from the bottom of this very talented artist?s heart.

First Dance by Bruce Greene

Lot 39S: First Dance by Bruce Greene

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: First Dance by Bruce Greene - Edition Size: 15 - Giclee on Canvas - Artist Proof Dimensions: 36 x 36 Release Date: 3-2012 ???.Bruce Greene is a Western painter who has ridden trails and experienced the cowboy life he portrays in the very narrative images he creates. The artist is a native Texan who has reached the pinnacle of his profession through hard work and an extraordinary talent for painting the story of one of our country?s most revered icons, the American cowboy. His scenes of contemporary cowboys going about their daily work are admired and collected across America. Several years ago, Bruce began making annual trips to join in the spring work on the legendary JA Ranch in the Palo Duro Canyon of north Texas. As Greene describes his trip, ?I go up there and stay on the chuck wagon with the JA hands and the neighbors that have come to help. We ride a lot of miles in rough country. It can be cold, hot, windy, and wet. As a matter of fact, it can be all of these in one day. A fella' could get lost in some of the mesquite or cedar thickets. Of course, we work a few cows on our place and help out a neighbor now and then, but the JA trip has been a real inspiration for me each year. I am absolutely sure that this experience has greatly affected my artwork. It seems necessary, to me, in order to depict the contemporary cowboy with accuracy and feeling. My good friend, Red Steagall, calls it ?getting the dust in your nose.? For me, that dust makes the difference.? One of Greene?s most enjoyable, recent projects was creating a painting for the Texas Rangers Association Foundation commemorating and honoring the history and high standards of the Texas Rangers. The painting, titled ?The Ranger Code,? was purchased by members of the Foundation?s board and is in the permanent collection of outstanding Ranger art at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco. Greene was elected to membership in the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America in 1993 and served as its President in 2003. The artist and his family live on a small ranch in the historical community of Norse, near Clifton, Texas. Greene?s studio sets on the edge of a hill behind his home. From this vantage point, large north windows offer a continuous view of the Texas Hill Country, a few Hereford cows, and the occasional whitetail deer. ?It is a wonderful blessing to be able to make a living for my family doing what I love in this beautiful place,? says Greene. Greene?s works are represented by several well known galleries in the Southwest. He has presented his art in annual shows and exhibition such as the Cowboy Artists of America Exhibition, the Prix de West Show at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the Autry Museum of Western Heritage Sale, just to name a few, and other prestigious venues.

One aspect of the legend, however, has never been disputed: only a maiden can tame the proud beast. Scott Gustafson explores these myths while offering lively new interpretations in "The Maiden and the Unicorn," which has been created in the same wondrously detailed tradition as the extremely popular, Sold Out at Publisher, "Merlin and Arthur." Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Best Out West - R. Tom Gilleon - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Canvas - Image Size: 20"w X 26"h. Edition Size:25 - ?You can still find this elevator standing outside of Big Timber, Montana,? begins Tom Gilleon, ?but the beautiful artwork is gone. The corrugated metal on which it was painted has fallen away, revealing the aged and weathered wooden structure beneath. ?I?d like to imagine that this Montana grain elevator artwork was the inspiration for the cowboy on the bucking bronco we associate with the state of Wyoming as opposed to the other way around. The most widely recognized version first showed up on Wyoming license plates in the 1930s. There is a big debate in Wyoming as to the horse pictured (is it Red Wing, Steamboat or Deadman?) and who the rider is (Guy Holt or ?Stub? Farlow?). The Wyoming National Guard has had its own version since WWI and the University of Wyoming got theirs in the 1920s. What if the cowboy and horse are Big Timber locals and that all the other designs were inspired by the site of this magnificent Montana artifact? That would be a neat story.? Renowned for his contemporary vision of the Old West, Gilleon weds perfectly representative and abstract art. Most of his compositions are simply a series of vibrant triangles, squares, circles and rectangles. His seamless blend of graphic art and classic representational storytelling has collectors snatching up his artwork as soon as it becomes available. "Best Out West" is presented as a gallery-wrapped edition of only 25 pieces. Grace your home or office with this alluring work of Tom Gilleon?s art.
