Description: Depicting a landscape with houses and winding road, unsigned, Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958) was French artist involved in the Fauvist movement, he is particularly known for his Fauve landscape paintings, measures 21.5"H x 26.5"W sight. <br><br>Provenance: Ex-collection Robert Wiley, Southfield, MI. <br><br>Condition: relined sometime in the mid 20th century, could use a cleaning, having an old inventory or museum number to reverse of frame "72.40.1". <br><br>According to the consignor, the painting was originally donated to the Mt. Holyoke College Art Museum and was subsequently auctioned off at a small New England auction as part of a fundraising effort for the college museum. <br><br>Color and black and white photographs were sent to the Wildenstein Institute in Paris, who was then preparing a Catalog Raisonne on Vlaminck. Letter from the Institute is enclosed. For obvious logistical reasons, painting was never physically sent to the Institute and was never seen in person by any of its members, but obviously its merits were such that the Committee felt that it needed up-close inspection to determine its authenticity.
