Sale Notes:
" My personal highlight is from Germany: Klaus-Peter Keller only took over his parents' estate in 2002 and has experienced a stellar ascent ever since - his dry wines enjoy a world-wide reputation nowadays. In this auction we have 3 lots by the iconic wine-grower from the Rhine-Hessian Wonnegau region with wines from 2010 and 2011 as well as a vertical selection. All of these wines were the best of their vintage." Italy scores with an Elio Grasso from Piedmont and Tuscany is represented by the traditional vineyards Frescobaldi and Antinori. Austalia, no longer an underdog amongst winemakers, will be championed by three magnum bottles of 'Grange' from the Penfolds winery founded in 1844. In addition there are treasures from German vineyards in Rheinhessen and the Moselle and Rheingau regions waiting for a new owner who knows how to savour them. http://auctionata.com

12 bottles 2003 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Twelve bottles of Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling KabinettDry white wine2003 VintageWiltingen, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer/Germany Grape variety: Riesling Original filling quantity: 0.75 l Ullage: Falstaff: 88/100 (2007)Wine Spectator: 89/100This lot comprises twelve bottles of 2003 vintage Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett from the Egon Müller winery in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine region. This wine was rated 88 points by Falstaff chief editor Peter Moser in 2007. Wine Spectator rated this wine 89 points. The wine is delivered in its original wooden case. The ullage is excellent (< 2 cm). Some labels are soiled, the capsules are in good condition.ScharzhofbergScharzhofberg is one of the most celebrated vineyards in Germany. This steep slope lies between Wiltingen and Oberemmel in the wine-growing area of Mosel, in the Saar region. The area the vineyard is located in is secondary, therefore "Scharzhofberger" is the only name mentioned on the label. Riesling is exclusively cultivated within these 28.1 hectares. The devonian slate soil has an extremely high rock content, as well as a being clayey and ferrous. The hillside is south-facing with an inclination of 30 to 60 percent.Egon MüllerThe Egon Müller wine estate, a family organisation now in its fourth generation, produces some of the best wines in the world. The family is one of eleven members of the Primum Familiae Vini, a very exclusive association of elite international family wineries. The wines are probably more well-known internationally than in Germany and fetch top prices. Some of them are stored for a long time before they are even made available for purchase. Qualitätswein and Kabinett are surprisingly long-lasting and can be drunk worry-free after 20 years of maturing, whilst the Spätlese only reach their peak after 10 to 15 years of ageing. Their Auslese wines taste wonderful after 25 years.

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr - the house vineyard of the Prüm winery - faces the south and has strong heat reflection due to long exposure to direct sunlight. The ullage is very good (< 3 cm). The labels are slightly soiled and the capsules are in excellent condition.Johann Josef PrümThe legendary wines of the Johann Josef Prüm winery are produced today by Dr. Manfred Prüm and his daughter Katharina. The foundation of the family business is an impressive 22 hectares in the best locations of the Mittelmosel. The most care is given to the vineyards, because according to the family they are responsible for great wines. No outsider has ever been allowed to enter the legendary cellar. J. J. Prüm produces traditionally fruity wines with a moderate, natural residual sweetness. The high acidity, character and mineral quality of the wines make them appear rather dry. The wines can age unbelievably well, the balance is singular and sensational! Many vintages deemed inferior by many critics developed over the years into true masterpieces. In any case, after several years of storage these wines belong to the greatest white wines in the world, despite (or rather because of) their inalterable identity and originality!

It is owned by the banking family Rothschild. The vineyard of today is the life's work of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, whom it was signed over on October 22, 1922, when he was a young man. Striving for excellence and searching for new methods, he consistently improved the quality of the Château's output. His first innovation was bottling the entire vintage at the vineyard, in order to maintain the quality of production: "Mise en Bouteille au Château". The reward finally came in 1973, when the Château Mouton-Rothschild was reclassified from Deuxième to Premier Cru (First Growth), the only change to have been made in the history of the official classification.Mouton has 82 hectares vine area, made up of 77 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 12 % Merlot, 9 % Cabernet Franc and 2 % Petit Verdot. Château Mouton-Rothschild lies on a slope that is up to 30 m high. The over 8 m layer of gravel of this slope lies on a chalk base, coming from alluvial deposits of the nearby Gironde from the Pyrenees towards the end of the Beestonian stage. The grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon grows splendidly on this soil.
