Description: [ DECOYS ] Hollow bluebill drake, Verne Cheesman, Macomb, Illinois, early 2nd quarter 20th century. Many if not most of the decoys that Cheesman made were taken to Edna Perdew to be painted, a practice followed by several other known Illinois River makers. Original paint by Edna Perdew, Henry, Illinois, shows minor to moderate wear; slight separation at the body seam with some unpainted wood filler noted. PROVENANCE: Van Trigt Collection. Description: [ DECOYS ] Early and rare hollow redhead drake, Robert Elliston, Bureau, Illinois, last quarter 19th century. Retains the original embossed Elliston lead ballast weight. Used on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. The surface was been cleaned of some old shellac or varnish with only traces of that remaining; however, the original paint remains very strong; very fine stress crack at the base of the neck; some minor wear at the edge of the bill, a few shot marks, overall the structural condition is excellent.
