A 1927 Austin 12/4 Clifton Tourer, registration

Lot 1D: A 1927 Austin 12/4 Clifton Tourer, registration

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: A 1927 Austin 12/4 Clifton Tourer, registration CT8596, black/maroon, Car No 4TC7528. The vehicle has been in the Goffin family and was purchased by them in 1927. It was on the road from 1927 to 1941. With wartime fuel rationing and its thirsty nature, it was sidelined to the barn. In 1943 Kesteven County Council wanted to buy it and convert to an ambulance, although this never happened. That year it got converted to a Farmer's Truck, which rather spoiled the appearance, but had it running on on wartime 'red' petrol. It continued being 'road-worthy' until 1955, when it retired to 'runs on the farm'. During 1967 & 1968 it was stripped to the bones and restored to its original and former glory. Up to the millennium it was seen consistently at Lincolnshire Poacher and other rallies and listed in the Vintage Austin Register. Since then, it has reverted to 'runs on the farm'. A rare opportunity to acquire a single-owner car from the 1920's. Upon instructions from the Executors of Mrs Susan A Goffin (Dec'd), late of Hall Farm, Londonthorpe, Nr, Grantham.
