Backstrap has inscription to Civil War Soldier, "John Barry". Captain John Barry was a native of Ireland, who joined the U.S. Army on May 7, 1857. He served honorably until January 1, 1871. Captain Barry fought with the 1st Cavalry at the Battle of Todd's Tavern & was honored for bravery. Sm. brass trigger guard & backstrap with silver plated finish. 5 Shot cylinder. 1 Piece walnut grip. CONDITION: backstrap & trigger guard retain 50% plated finish. Description: Cal. 22 RF. S# 12370. Octagonal 3 3/16" ribbed with blade front sight. This beautiful little Civil War Smith & Wesson is contained in a leather custom flap holster inscribed in ink "B. Haskell,/Co G 13th Regt/ N.Y.S.M." Benjamin Haskell mustered into the Brooklyn City Guard which was later known as Company G 13th New York Militia. Haskell served 100 days & is mentioned in the memoirs of John B. Woodward, later New York General who at the time was a lieutenant in same unit. A first edition, privately printed memoir of Woodward 1987 accompanies this gun. Phisterer lists Haskell in "New York in the War of the Rebellion" as major & assistant adj. general, 11th brigade, served in the Gettysburg campaign with General Smith from June 16th to July 24th 1863. Butt of gun is marked with hand inscribed "H" indicating ownership by Major Haskell. Half silver finish with rosewood grips. CONDITION: bbl. & cyl. retain 75% original blue. CONDITION: 95% original silver finish with light flaking just forward cylinder face and lightly worn high edges. 90% original gold wash finish with a light drag line and flaking around the sharp edges of the cylinder. Cylinder face & breech retain high levels of gold wash. Showing very light use. Original ivory grips are near excellent with slight age checking around the grip screws. Bore is dark with areas of scattered pitting and sharp rifling. This example is housed in a fine chocolate brown Smith & Wesson gutta percha case. This civil war era deringer is a very scarce variation of the standard production Moore deringers with large arrows engraved on both sides of the bbl. Bbl also marked D. Moore's Pat. Feb. 24 1863. CONDITION: 90-95% original nickel finish with areas of light scattered flaking and light wear on the bbl and mellow wear on the left side of frame revealing small areas of the brass. Scroll engraving is original and crisp. Bore is dark with areas of light pitting and fair rifling. Patent date and bbl address are lightly marked. Description: This is a fantastic opportunity at a rare W. Kidder manufactured case made for a Colt 1849 with a 4" Bbl. This fabulous case features a crisp makers mark on the inside rim of case's hinge side. "MANUFACTURED / SOLELY BY W. KIDDER". " "PATENT APR 1854" All corners on both case and lid are reinforced with brass corner caps. Brass shield pattern lock panel and brass hinges with matching flathead screws. Green velvet is in good condition with reapplied agents label on lid. A light reapplied varnish was added some time ago. A small crack on lid panel which is only visible from the side extends approx. 2" on left side. This runs on the very top portion along the bevel of the lid masking the line well. This lot also includes a COLT 1849 POCKET REVEOLVER. S# 98266 Bbl. 4" Cal. 31. All Matching numbers including wedge. Good stage coach scene on cylinder. 2 line New York bbl address. CONDITION: Finish has faded to a gray patina with handling marks on metal surfaces. Grip strap and trigger guard retain 90%-93% original nickel with wear on high edges and scattered peppery flaking.
