Toscana I by Cynthia Decker

Lot 8S: Toscana I by Cynthia Decker

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Toscana I by Cynthia Decker - Edition Size: Open - Giclee on Canvas, Signed - Museum Wrapped Dimensions: 36 x 36 Release Date: 9-2012 ???.As a child, I would draw and paint at any opportunity. My Mother taught computer science at a local college, and we had a computer in the house when not very many people had home computers. With a computer instructor for a mom, and an engineer for a dad, my earliest art materials were green and white perforated computer paper, and I used to doodle on used punch cards. I began drawing on the computer ?pixel by pixel in green and black monochrome? on an Apple II computer when I was about 13. Throughout high school and college I studied and practiced drawing and design, and as the technology became available to me I started digital painting, while continuing to work in traditional media; pastels, acrylics and oils. I left college to begin a graphic design career and continued to teach myself and explore new digital media. I began using 3D software in 1998 and was immediately hooked. Initially, my portfolio was exclusively online, and I participated in many web-based galleries. People began requesting prints through my website and after doing research into fine art printing, I began creating and selling high resolution archival prints of my work in 2002. That same year I had my first solo show, and I believe it was the first show of non-photographic digital work in North Carolina.

KEN AUSTER - FOREST FROM THE TREES

Lot 15W: KEN AUSTER - FOREST FROM THE TREES

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Ken Auster - Forest From The Trees - Hand Signed - Canvas Edition -image Size: 48"w X 40"h. Limited Edition Of: 50 - Ken Auster's Contemporary California Impressionism Took On New Dimensions When He Created This Eight-foot Landscape Of The Southern California Coast. In The Late 1800s When The Impressionists Ventured Out Of Their Studios And Into Nature To Capture The Effects Of Sunlight And Atmosphere, It Was Quite Revolutionary. Today It?s A Familiar Concept. ?artists Come To The Laguna Beach Area From All Over The World Because Of The Light, The Way The Sea Affects The Atmosphere And The Natural Beauty Of The Beach And Surrounding Hills,? Says Artist Ken Auster, Who's Own Fresh Style Works Classic Plein Air Magic In The Studio. ?i Work Only In Oils And My Paintings Are Very ?juicy,? Very Loose And Very Of-the-moment.? Auster Has An Exceptional Eye For Chromatic Subtleties And His Understanding Of Color And Light Are On Display In This Pair Of Dramatically Out-sized Southern California Landscapes, The First Two. A Lifetime Can Be Spent Filling In The Details As The Eye Travels, Catches And Circles Around This Landscape. The Four Foot Wide Masterwork? Canvas (half The Size Of The Original Painting) Will Transform Any Room It Graces. You Can Almost Smell The Land, Heat And Sea Breeze In These West Coast Landscapes.??about The Artist - Ken Auster Biographyken Grew Up With His Feet Deeply Planted In The Surfing Culture Where He First Learned To Express His Art Talent. Caught Up In The Ground Swell Of The 1960s Surfing Culture, Ken Not Only Plunged Into The Sport Of Surfing But Into The Art And Graphics Of Surfing As Well. While Working His Way Towards A Bachelor In Fine Arts Degree From Long Beach State University, Ken Built One Of The World's Most Prominent Silkscreen And T- Shirt Companies, Creating Now-legendary Surfing Art That Adorned Surfers From Hawaii To The Shores Of Peru. His Surfing Images, Silk-screened As Original Prints On Paper, Became The ?fine Art? Of This Beach Culture, And Today, Represent The Classic Surf Art Of The Past Century. At The Heart Of Ken's Work Was Always The Awareness Of The Fine Line Between Man-made And Nature. In The Mid-1990s, Ken Moved To A More Serious Art Level - Involving Him With The Immediacy Of Oil Paints As Opposed To The Process- Burdened Medium Of Printmaking. Throwing Himself Into The Splendor Of ?plein Air? (on Location) Painting, Ken Discovered The Richness And Broad Colors Of The City Life He Long Avoided. As He Will Tell You, He Rejoiced In This Newfound Ability To Paint Anything And Everything - Cafes, Train Stations, Airports, Street Scenes, And Of Course, Never Far Away, Was The Beach, His First Love. The Transition From Surf Art To Serious Impressionism Was Natural For Ken - His Passion And Obsession To Reach A New Understanding Between Himself And The Oil Painting Medium Took On A New Intensity Of Discovery. ?i Simply Want To Achieve The Ultimate Communication On The Canvas - To Say More With Less,? Ken Says. His Deft Use Of Color. His Economies Of Brush Strokes. His Simple, Yet Beautifully Structured Compositions. As One Famous Critic Described - ?each Painting Captures A Moment In Time Charged With A Hint Of Narrative Drama. And Each Is Rendered With Such Vibrant Immediacy That A Single Glance Excites Other Senses As Well.? Ken's Passion For Painting Is Shared With Hundreds Of Students Who Each Year Travel From Around The World To Attend His Workshops In Laguna Beach, Carmel And Art Schools Throughout The Country. With His Wife, They Have A Thriving Art World Centered At Their Studio And Gallery In Picturesque Laguna Canyon. In A Relatively Short Time Since This Transition To ?plein Air? Painting, Ken Auster Has Moved To The Forefront Of American Contemporary Impressionists. He Consistently Walks Away With Gold Medals And First Place Awards At Juried Exhibits. His Work Is Collected By Museums, Patrons And Shown In Some Of The Most Respected Galleries Nationwide. Renowned For His Classic Surf Art, Ken Auster Now Sees And Paints A Bold, Dynamically Changing World, Whether It Is London, Venice (italy), San Francisco, Carmel, Napa Valley, Or Baja, Mexico. He Shares With Us The Uncomplicated But Moving Stories On Canvas - Simply And Effectively, Documenting The Ordinary In An Unordinary Manner. And What About His Surfing? Well, If The Surf Is Flat, You'll Find Ken In His Studio. But When The Surf Is ?up?, You'll Find Ken, Most Likely, Filling His Other Passion.

Morgan Adds, ?i Don?t Hide The Process Of How I Painted It. You Can See The Layers And Count The Strokes It Took To Get There. His Life Was Fast Paced And Privileged And His Real Ambition Was To Live Life To Its Fullest, Enjoying The Fruits Of His Wealth Unencumbered By The Worries Of Productivity Or Work. Determined To Exploit His Position, He Began Building A Retreat Designed By Nevada Architect Frederick De Longchamps. By 1936, Whittell Controlled Nearly One Third Of The Tahoe Basin, Including 27 Miles Of Shoreline. Ironically, In Doing So, Whittell Helped To Preserve The National Beauty Of Lake Tahoe And Build What Was To Become One Of The Great Historical Landmarks On The Lake - The Thunderbird Lodge.??about The Artist - William S. Phillips ?aviation Was My First Artistic Love,? Says William S. Phillips, ?but My True, Enduring Love Remains My Christian Faith, Home And Family. So It Is My Pleasure To Combine All Of It In My Work. The Historical Aviation Subjects, I Research; The Contemporary And Nostalgic Subjects, I Live.? Phillips Grew Up Loving Art But Never Thought He Could Make It His Livelihood. At College He Majored In Criminology And He Had Been Accepted Into Law School When Four Of His Paintings Were Sold At An Airport Restaurant. That Was All The Incentive He Needed To Begin His Work As A Fine Art Painter. Bill Phillips Is Now The Aviation Artist Of Choice For Many American Heroes And The Nostalgic Landscape Artist Of Choice For Many Collectors. Bill?s Strengths As A Landscape Painter Are What Gave Him An Edge In The Aviation Field: Respect And Reverence For A Time And Place. When One Sees His Aviation Pieces, Thoughts Are About The Courageous Individuals Who Risked Their Lives For Our Freedom. In Bill?s Nostalgic Works, The Viewer Understands Fully What That Freedom Is . . . The Precious Values That Make Life Worth Living. After One Of His Paintings Was Presented To King Hussein Of Jordan, Phillips Was Commissioned By The Royal Jordanian Air Force. He Developed Sixteen Major Paintings, Many Of Which Now Hang In The Royal Jordanian Air Force Museum In Amman. The Smithsonian Institution?s National Air And Space Museum Presented A One-man Show Of Phillips? Work In 1986; He Is One Of Only A Few Artists To Have Been So Honored. In 1988, Phillips Was Chosen To Be A U.s. Navy Combat Artist. For His Outstanding Work, The Artist Was Awarded The Navy?s Meritorious Public Service Award And The Air Force Sergeants Association?s Americanism Medal. In 1991, Three Of Phillips? Works Were Chosen As Part Of The Top 100 In ?art For The Parks,? The Prestigious Annual Fund-raiser For The National Park Service, And One Painting Received The ?art History Award? From The National Park Foundation.

A Brand New Hope by Nancy Glazier

Lot 28S: A Brand New Hope by Nancy Glazier

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: A Brand New Hope by Nancy Glazier - Edition Size: 595 - Giclee on Canvas - Signed & Numbered Dimensions: 18 x 36 Release Date: 11-2009 ???.Nancy Glazier is passionate about her art and the subject of her art. This passion is evident in the way she paints and the way she lives ? they are inseparable. Surrounded by mountain beauty and the animals the artist loves to paint, Glazier says, ?I feel a kinship with the animal that grows as the painting progresses. There is a powerful chemistry at work. People ask me, ?Which is your favorite animal to paint?? I can tell you it is always the very animal I am painting at the time." For Glazier, it is ??a warm, living, breathing process that brings me back again and again to the easel. It is my ultimate reward.? Many of the artist?s admirers and collectors consider Glazier to be an extraordinary artist whose paintings seem ?alive.? For her, this is warm praise, because she desires to share what she experiences through her paintings. She hopes the viewer, too, will feel the warmth of the sun or the crisp chill of winter, smell the sage and dust, or hear the bellow of the bison. Glazier knew she wanted to be an artist from early childhood. In her teens, she lived in Wyoming where she immersed herself in the rugged, western terrain. There she was mentored and taught by artist Adolph Spohr, who gave her private instruction and taught her how a professional uses paint and brush?how to observe and self-correct. The artist?s style evolved over time. After seeing a dramatic photograph of a grizzly, she was awakened to a desire to paint animals ?close up and hair-by-hair.? The artist has taken hands-on anatomy classes that enable her to paint an amazingly accurate portrait of an animal from its bone structure to muscles to hair, bringing it life on her canvas. The artist enjoys much success as one of today?s most talented wildlife painters. Her original works are represented by one of America?s leading galleries. Her paintings have been featured at prestigious shows throughout the country, and two of her works hang in the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City. Glazier and her husband reside in an idyllic setting in Nevada where a spacious studio allows her to create her extraordinary paintings and continue her journey of discovery to capture ?the whole picture.?

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: Steve Hanks - Nature´s Touch - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Canvas - Image Size: 29"w X 15"h. Limited Edition Of: 100 - The Mystery Of What Lies Below The Surface Is One Of Water?s Most Fascinating Attractions.the Same Can Be Said Of The Paintings Of Steve Hanks, Where Water And Its Presence Have A Nomenclature All Their Own. ?oceans Are Vast And We Are Small In Comparison,? Says Hanks. ?when A Painting Occurs At Seaside, Often The Subjects Are Contemplating Significant Passages In Their Lives. Rivers Are On The Move And Going Somewhere, As Are The Figures In These Paintings. Lakes Are Most Often Environments Of Calm Water And Safety. Harmony Is Often The Overriding Theme. Bathed In The Glow Of A Warm Sun, The Woman In This Painting Is Connecting With Nature And The Uncomplicated Joy Of Life. Poised And Confident She Dips Her Foot Beneath The Surface, An Overture To Exploring The Unknown.???about The Artist - Steve Hanks Although Teachers Often Cited His Artistic Ability, Steve Hanks? Main Interest While Growing Up Around San Francisco Was Sports. As A Young Teenager, Hanks Pursued Surfing And Tennis With Passion. He Eventually Tired Of A Steady Diet Of Competitive Tennis, But Continued To Surf, Finding A Spiritual Connection With The Ocean. ?surfing Had A Strong Influence On My Paintings,? He Says. ?the Ocean Often Appears In My Work, Because I Have Such Strong Feelings For It.? Although It Was Apparent Early On That He Had Talent, Hanks Refused To Do The Required Assignments In His High School Art Class And Earned A Grade Of C In The Class. ?to Prove I Was Good, I Did A One-man Show At The High School And Sold My First Painting To Another Art Teacher,? He Says. After High School Hanks Enrolled In Summer Session Commercial Art Courses At The Academy Of Art In San Francisco. ?the Only Way I Could Convince My Parents To Let Me Go Was To Say I Was Going Into Commercial Art,? He Says. ?i Didn?t Even Know What That Was!? He Did Well In His Commercial Art Classes, But It Was A Life Drawing Class That Captured His Interest. He Focused His Energy On The Study Of Anatomy And Figure Drawing And Transferred Into The California College Of Arts And Crafts In Oakland, California. He Graduated In The 1960s With A Bachelor Of Fine Arts Degree, And Then Moved Back To New Mexico In Search Of A Home Art Gallery. Initially, He Drew In Pencil And Painted In Oils. His Paintings Were Impressionistic While His Drawings Were More Realistic. Eventually, An Allergic Reaction To Oils Forced Him To Experiment With Watercolors. Using The Techniques Learned From Other Mediums, He Found He Could Create Watercolors As ?finished? As Oils. Deeply Affected By The Emotions, Shifting Attitudes And Music Of The 1960s, The Music Of 60s Icon Bob Dylan Often Accompanies Hanks As He Paints In His Studio Today. Steve Hanks? Paintings Are Much More Than Endearing Images Of Women And Children. Rather Than Conveying A Specific Message Through His Paintings, Hanks Prefers To Explore Memories And Emotions. ?all Art Is An Escape To Somewhere You Want To Be Or A Feeling You Want To Have," Hanks Says. "people See Different Things In My Paintings Because We All Have Different Backgrounds And Feelings.? Hanks Highly Collected Nudes Convey An Introspective Solitude That Prompts The Viewer To Think About His Or Her Own Life And Path. ?women Occupy A Special Niche In My Sensitivity. They Express More Storytelling Ability. There?s More Magic In Them,? He Says. Art Jurors Began Recognizing The Quality Of His Work In 1973. Steve Hanks Won The Arts For The Parks Marine Art Award Of Excellence In 1990 And 1994, And Has Been One Of The Arts For The Parks Top 100 Artists Since 1989. In 1991, Steve Hanks Received The National Watercolor Society Merit Award And The National Academy Of Western Art Awarded Him The Gold Medal In 1992. Since 1993, He Has Been One Of U.s. Description: James C. Christensen - All That She Had - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Canvas - Image Size: 12"w X 17"h. Limited Edition Of: 450 - The Parable Of The Widow's Mite Illustrates Piety In Its Purest Form. A Widow, Depicted Here As A Young Woman In Tattered Finery, The Last Vestiges Of Her Privileged Former Life, Offers All That She Has To The Temple. Her Contribution Of Two Small Coins May Seem Small When Compared To The Lavish Donations Of The City Fathers, But, Said Jesus, ". . . This Poor Widow Hath Cast More In, Than All They Which Have Cast Into The Treasury: For All They Did Cast In Of Their Abundance; But She Of Her Want Did Cast In All She Had, Even Her Living." (mark 12: 43-44) The Square Halo Formed By The Window Behind The Young Widow Hearkens Back To 11th Century Christian Iconography. At That Time, Living Saints And Holy Persons Were Depicted With A Square Nimbus, Or Halo, In Order To Differentiate Them From The Immortals.??about The Artist - James C. Christensen Inspired By The World's Myths, Fables And Tales Of Imagination, James C. Christensen Wants His Work To Add Up To More Than A Beautiful - If Sometimes "curious" Looking Work Of Art. Having Taught Art Professionally For Over 20 Years, He Likes To Think Of The World As His Classroom. Description: Judy Larson - One With - Hand Signed - Limited Edition Print - Image Size: 18"w X 20 1/2"h. Limited Edition Of: 1000 - Click Here To Explore The Hidden Image Keys In Judy Larson's Fine Art. Iyuptala: Ee-yoo-p?tah-lah. "the Native American?s Relationship With The Elements, The Earth And Its Inhabitants Were Viewed As 'one With.' He Moved Through Nature As He Did With His Animals, Not As An Owner Or As A Subduer, But As An Equal, A Companion, A Brother. Total Trust Existed Between The Native American And His Horse, With Whom He Was 'one With.' They Moved Together As One. They Understood Each Other. They Listened To Each Other. So Powerful Was This Understanding, This Respect, That The Very Rocks In 'one With' Speak Of This Relationship. Nature, The Animal And The Native American Are As One Unit. There Is No Question. The Native American And His Horse Belonged Here, "one With" Each Other, With Their Creator And With His Creation." These Are The Words Of Artist Judy Larson Whose Eloquence Is Clearly Not Limited To Her Art. Judy's Passion Has Earned Her The Standing As One Of America's Leading Artists. Her Technique, The Painstakingly Detailed Process Of Scratchboard, Lends Itself Wonderfully To Her Art.??about The Artist - Judy Larson Judy Larson Always Knew She Was Going To Be An Artist. She Was Surrounded By Them As A Child, And Was Particularly Inspired By Her Father, A Professional Illustrator. Judy Received A Bachelor Of Science Degree In Commercial Art From Pacific Union College In Northern California, Then Spent The Next 17 Years As A Commercial Artist, Illustrator And Art Director. In 1988, Influenced By Her Love Of Nature And Animals, Judy Devoted Her Time To Wildlife Art. Her Primary Focus In Each Of Her Paintings Is The Animal, With The Horse As A Recurring Subject. Her Unique Approach To Her Work Is Through The Use Of Scratch Board--a Technique That Can Render Magnificent Detail But One Requiring Infinite Patience. Scratch Board, An Old, But Little Used Medium, Consists Of A Smooth, Thin Surface Of Hardened China Clay Applied To A Board. The Subject Is Then Painted Solidly With Black India Ink To Create A Silhouette. Now The Exacting Work Begins, Engraving The Image Into The Surface Of The Artwork. While Many Artists Use Steel Nibs Or Engraving Tools, Judy Prefers To Work With X-acto Blades, Changing Them Ever Few Minutes To Produce As Fine A Line As Possible. Once The Subject Has Been Totally Scratched, It Is A Finished Black And White Illustration, Ready For The Artist To Add Color. The Methods Of Adding Color Are Diverse. Judy Prefers A Combination Of Airbrush, Gouache Or Acrylics For Finishing, With Frequent Rescratching For Detail. Scratch Board Is A Demanding Medium, One That Judy Has Used Masterfully In Developing Her Unique Approach To Wildlife Art.
