AFTER FANNY FLORA BOND PALMER, American, 19th Century,

Estimated Price: Log in or create account to view price data

Description: AFTER FANNY FLORA BOND PALMER American, 19th Century "Cozzen's Dock, West Point". Unsigned. After the 1861 work by Palmer and reproduced by Currier & Ives. Fanny Palmer is probably the greatest selling artist of 19th Century America, yet is virtually unknown to contemporary collectors and scholars. As one of Currier & Ives' most popular and prolific artists, it has been said more late 19th Century American homes had images created by Palmer than any other artist. This painting is extremely similar in composition and style to Palmer's 'Cozzen's Dock - West Point', published by Currier & Ives in 1861. Given the popularity of Currier & Ives and Palmer in the late 19th Century, it is likely this work by an unknown artist was derived from the popular print. Oil on canvas, 21.5" x 36". Framed.

Condition Report: Soiled varnish layer. Thin 11" lined of scattered paint loss mirroring the lower edge of the upper stretcher bar. A smaller are of scattered paint loss mirroring the left had stretcher bar. UV light reveals no obvious retouch. Appears to be in original, untouched condition.
