The 2 line barrel address is crisp and marking on trigger guard visible. There has been a lanyard removedfrom the butt. The grips though very well-made and attractive are more modern. This revolver shows 10% to 20% original blue drifting to a gray brown patina with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting. The markings are good and all visible. The serial number on the blackstrap has been removed and there may have been something removed from the blackstrap such as an inscription also the blackstrap is refinished. The grips show some high point and edge wear. Shows large front sight which is correct for late production. There is a M. M. stamp on the bottom of the barrel which is old and may have somethingto do with a Mexican railroad. The action is working at time of cataloging and bore is fairly good. Est.: $400-800.

This open top shows a 2 9/16" barrel and original nickel plated finish for which the P follows the serialnumber.. The pistol retains 75% to 85% original nickel on cylinder and frame with about 10% nickel on the barrel. The barrel shows some moderate pitting and light cleaning long ago. The barrel shows a good two line address. An oversizedejector rod head has been added long ago and the ejector rod spring is missing. The grips show traces of varnish with some dings and mars and at least good. There is some pitting on the front of the cylinder and the top of the hammer that isminor. The action is working and the front sight blade has been reshaped. A late serial number transition of model 1872 with ejector rod housing and short barrel. Est.: $600-$1200

Description: Colt Model 1860 Army revolver so-called Mormon avenger with period shortened barrel to 2 7/8" ,serial number 141917. The revolver remains in good to very good condition showing a hint of original blue finish and case hardening. There issome scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting with some slightly heavier pitting in a few small areas of the cylinder. The cylinder shows 20% to 30% original scene. The rear part of the barrel address is very legible and a smallbead sight has been professionally inset during period of use behind the last letter of Colt. The pistol is martially marked on side of barrel with a D and the grips are good with normal aging and a slight outline of cartouche. There are smalllosses of wood at toes of grips. The rear of the back strap has been drilled for lanyard and an old leather lanyard is included. All matching visible serial numbers. The plugging of the barrel and the crown indicate 19th-century work. These bellyguns derive their name from Porter Rockwell who was described as the "Avenging Angel" and "Mormon Avenger". The Mormon pioneers armed themselves while working in the fields from Marauders (bad men and bad government). Est.: $700-$1400

The frame shows 30% to 50% case hardening as does the back of the recoil shield and straps. The action is very tight and crisp. The originalsmall parts and sights and ejector are all retained. The original extra -large front sight is also retained. The barrel shows a full Lefaucheux, Paris signature with LF proofs on the right side of the frame and small makerscartouche on left side of frame. A far better than average Civil War era pin fire by the most prominent French maker. Est.: $700-$1,400.

The bottom of frame is signed Heune with a small stamp showing the south side of a stag headed north. The trigger guard is engraved with the initials G.H.J. The condition is fine to excellent showing some slight use. The action is tight and the bore is just slightly dirty and would clean. The grips are also fine to near excellent showing a great deal of quality workmanship. The revolver is contained in a extra fine custom French style fitted case withleather exterior. The exterior of the case shows a makers plaque which is engraved, "Case By Georgianna". The case is fine to excellent and would be very expensive to replicate. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
