In their photographs, films, sculptures and multimedia installations they put everyday subjects and objects in a new and surprising artistic context and question them in a humorous way. In doing so, they are compared with artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Jean Tinguely or Dieter Roth. In their first collective photographic work ‘Wurstserie’ (sausage series) they arranged sausages and sausage slices with waste in various scenes from everyday life. In 1987 both had great success at the documenta 8 with their film ‘Der Lauf der Dinge’ (The Way Things Go). In 2003 Fischli & Weiss were awarded with the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennial for their installation ‘Questions’. Their works are represented in the collections of major museums such as the Tate in London or the Guggenheim Museum in New York.Claes Oldenburg (b. 1929)Claes Oldenburg was born in Stockholm and grew up in New York, Rye, Oslo and Chicago. On the reverse the sheet is mounted on the framing cardboard. The frame shows usual traces of age and wear.Chuck Close (b. 1940)Chuck Close, born in Monroe, Washington, graduated from the Art and Architecture School of Yale University and has been popular for his large-scale portraits of friends and famous people, since the late 1960s. His works have creatively blurred the distinction between photography and painting, while his interest in faces appears even more compelling when considering that Close suffers from the neurological condition prosopagnosia, or face-blindness. In the 1970's Close was already a star of the New York art scene and experimented with new printing techniques and iconic portraits like the depictions of the composer Philip Glass. In 1988, Close suffered a sudden rupture of spinal artery, so that he was left almost entirely paralyzed. Despite his physical limitations, Close surprisingly pressed forward with his work. He developed new artistic techniques and continued to paint, but in a style that was more abstract and less precise. In 2000, Close was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Clinton, which was followed by further prizes and the documentary ‘Chuck Close: A Portrait in Progress’ in 2007. Today, Close keeps a position atop the American art world and lives and works in New York and Long Iceland. (msc) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

The sheet is minor time-stained. Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997)Besides Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein is probably the best known representative of Pop Art. Pop Art was formed in the 1950s independently in the USA and England and spread throughout North America and Europe in the 1960s. The motifs of Pop Art originate from everyday life, the mass media, advertising and the consumer world. The illustrations are mostly striking and photo-realistic. The forms are – like in Roy Lichtenstein’s work – often outlined in black color, equally to comics, as well as designed in primary colors. Thematically, Pop Art deals with both the enthusiasm and the criticism of the affluent society of the 1950s and 1960s.In his early work, Roy Lichtenstein was still strongly influenced by Pablo Picasso and his Blue and Rose Period. The first signs of Pop Art in his work can be found in 1956. The international breakthrough came in 1961 with his work ‘Look Mickey’. From the 1980s onwards, he returned to his artistic roots, which can be found in Surrealism and Expressionism. Roy Lichtenstein exhibited at the documenta in Kassel in 1968 and 1977. In addition to paintings, he created serigraphs and woodblock prints, collages, ceramics and sculptures. (fea) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
