Description: Baumann (Alexander). Fluchtige Bilder aus einer Reise durch Egypten, Nubien und syrian in den Jahren 1854 und 1855, Vienna, 1859, 462pp. written in black ink a neat hand, contemp. half calf, backstrip det., 8vo Alexander Baumann was a Vienna-based writer of the mid-19th century. The present work was never published, but the writer's family allowed copies of it to be made, the actual copying being carried out by a clerk in Baumann's former office (the only man capable of deciphering Baumann's handwriting!). This copy of the work was presented to an unknown recipient who, according to an accompanying letter, possibly travelled with Baumann to the countries described in the book. (1)
