Description: JIM GILBERT (1933-1995) - 'Yard party at Long Lartin', signed and inscribed with title, pen, ink and watercolour, 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" (see illustration). Provenance: The artist's estate; purchased from Nicholas Bowlby, Tumbridge Wells in 1995. Jim Gilbert grew up in the East End of London. He was a huge, powerful man spending much of his life in jail and began painting in the 1960s as a form of mental release. Sold together with the retrospective exhibition catalogue (1995) which included this work.
